This movie doesn't just respect these girls, but it loves them. It shows the beauty, the strife, the difficulties. It encapsulates the feeling of being a teen girl trapped at home, in a time where you're neither a free adult nor a child. To quote Cecilia, if "you've never been a teenaged girl," you just won't get it.
@@badeggontheyoutube145 fr?? I didn't read the book, but I feel like it's exactly the message of the movie - the girls were dehumanised and therefore unable to build meaningful connections? That's what actually driven them to suicide?
@@oleksandratsyhannyk9069 the thing about the book is that it's so ridiculously sexualizing, almost necrophiliac (and pedophillic) that you immediately think it must be satirical, and this was my first impression of it. like when you read lolita. but then I've read some interviews with the author and he stated that the boys (that feel like one big entity in the book lol) were just young souls in love, that they "genuinely loved the girls" and and that the author himself RELATED TO THOSE LITTLE FUCKS, and reading this was gut wrenching. it was like if you saw nabokov say humbert was just a lovable misunderstood guy. because the boys in the book are DISGUSTING. the way they talk about the girls is nauseating, and knowing the author intented them to be the poetic heroes of the story make me wanna puke. but the movie respects the lisbon girls, the movie makes it clear that despite we viewing them from their admires's twisted gaze, they were young tormented human beings that those little shits from their street were unable to comprehend bc they could only think with their tiny crusty dicks. (I've got angry bc I hate them, but just know I'm not angry at you ok lol and also sorry for any spelling mistakes, english is not my first language 💗) (I recommend this video essay about it if you're interested ruclips.net/video/zvIpG4lR3xM/видео.htmlsi=MslHtZsVlaBNPpwj 💗💗)
I think, they (boys) saw the sisters as supreme beings, as a perfect being and far from being a human, and when he saw that Lux was just human like everyone else he felt disgusted and repulsed, that's sad

this movie respects the girls. the book doesn't. the book treats them as sexy corpses
same. the book and the film are the boys' vision, but the film shows their vision better, Sofia Cappola is incredible.
lol isnt that the point of the book though???
@@meemoo9064 i thought it was, but the author said the boys were right and they loved them and all that kind of shit

I would never get it if he loved her why she left her 💀
only for the sex
He didn’t love her, she was just a dream and prize to him. He left her because he achieved the dream and got bored. He is a douchebag.
I don’t think he actually loved her
men
