Dude, You're from another planet, another era. Astounding things you do!! You're my hero in this world of so-called "toxic masculinity", AI, and pervasive technology.. May many blessings rain down upon you. Retired carpenter, age 73.
I'm not sure you are entirely acquainted with the term "toxic masculinity", but you are certainly not wrong here. Toxic masculinity is perfectly, if somewhat extremely, examplified by people like Andrew Tate or Donald Trump. Will, or at least his RUclips persona and content, is about as far removed from toxic masculinity as it is possible to be, which I would say is a strong contributing factor in making his content enjoyable. Tthe traits and behaviours that characterise toxic masculinity are invariably obnoxious, so Will being the opposite - humble, mild mannered, reflexive and teaching and so on, makes him a thoroughly pleasant chap.
I remember I think it was last year I did a session with him on making tools and stuff and I was able to make a flint dagger but I couldn't have done it without his help though which was cool. 😅
Wonderful knapping my friend. When I hear that crisp crack of a flake being removed it just sends something through me. I've been knapping for 30 years and I don't get to do as much as I'd like because of health reasons, I still love to knap when I can and watch someone else when I can. I love your technique's and your style. You my friend are truly a master at your craft. Keep knapping and having fun and telling awesome stories.
That bone from the Thames was a nice find. That must've set deep in the mud for a long long time. It's amazing it was retrieved from constant river current till it surfaced. Crazy to find it's way to scales of a beautifully made blade.
Love watching and listening as you work with stone, wood and bark. The bird sounds nearby. Real things. I find I can work on making my knit and crochet creations at the same time. Its peaceful and sort of timeless. Blessings Will from a Crone.
Paleolithic archaeology student here! Just wanted to say I absolutely love your videos, I learn so much even when you’re not speaking, so thank you so much!
So glad I found your channel through watching TA Outdoors. I have been fascinated by the creation of stone age tools and weapons since I was a child but never thought to look on RUclips to find someone understanding the techniques and having the ability to create those artefacts as you do. Watching you is a fascinating experience that takes my imagination back to those ancient times and appreciating that those humans possessed as much intelligence and artistry as we do today.
I am new to the Neolithic. I am struggling as to how they created such tools. Equally incredible is that people like you have managed to re create their work.
That's soooooo fascinating!!! That will really be a TREASURE in some lucky individual's collection! I recently purchased a Smilodon Fatalis replica from Bone Clones, and am very impressed with the quality and realistic look of it... Even upon fairly close inspection it looks very convincingly real! ..... The dagger you've made today would look PERFECT on display with that! 👊😁👍
I follow with gracious envy and pleasure for your ability’s and the content you share, as ever a great vid I hope you are happy you appear a little ‘down’, hope I’m wrong. Be happy and know we’re all behind you eager to see your next.
I just subscribed about a week ago. Throughly enjoy watching your videos, so relaxing. You do such beautiful work. Thank you so much for sharing your skills. Roger from Virginia, USA.
First comment ever. I was deeply interested in knapping as a teenager, made primitive bows, and loved crafting arrows. As in one of your comments, though I tried, I wasn't skilled or mature enough to understand the skill. Thank you for re-kindling an old passion of mind and for being such a legend! Thank you for inspiring us to remember the technology that got us here. Love all that you do. Your bloody skill is sublime.
I am deeply honored that a god level person of your level bothered to reply. Some of the odd bows I had had moderate success were mulberry and white oak. I even planted Osage orange some 30 year ago in the hopes to make a bow. The tree is doing well. Folks thought my interest in primitive technology was bizarre. I can't say enough how much respect, and honor I reserve for you. Love to meet some day. Thank you so much for being unafraid to be that caveman.
Bloody lovely piece 👌 attention to detail is where it's at. Made with a mixture of things collected from around the world. No.3 could be an axe with the flint that's left. Or a spear maybe?
Very nice! Also you should add a small segment at the end of these videos where you use the tool you made, even just to slice up a leaf or something. Cheers 🤘
I LIKE the earth lodge. This knife and sheath was a fine project. I believe you left the blade in an 'unsharpened' condition. It does show the marks of the full range of techniques.
Absolutely amazing! Your skills shine brightly and I'm so glad to see more videos from you. I do hope you're still going to finish the Ice Age is coming story as well? I've watched and rewatched the videos and can barely stand waiting for the rest 😊. Have a beautiful and blessed day.
Watching you intuitively and skillfully develop that beautiful specimen of flint into a very capable blade and joining it to the bone handle, has been the highlight of my week! The sheath as well is beautiful! The handle looks to be very comfortable to hold and use. Who ever becomes the caretaker of this piece will be fortunate indeed, (along with the recipients of the other pieces in your raffle)! All of this is _very_ exciting and looking forward towards this! Also, I really like the mood of the intro and ending.
Once more a fantastic and fascinating work! Do you have a video, where you talk about your tools and how you find and identify your stones (if you don't get them out of someones garden ;) ). It is a pleasure to watch, how you work out this wonderful, magic pieces with care and understanding the material, but now i have to start trying making one by myself. Thanks for the inspiration.
I like these videos. Seeing this lost history recreated by will here, makes me wonder about prehistoric man. I dont think we can really grasp just how different the world was. If we could go back in time and even speak their language; we wouldnt be able to understand them at all. The way they must have understood the world, the values they had, the sense of humor they had, would all be completely alien to us. We all live on a point in the timeline where we have hundreds of years of modern science that give us a lens of enlightenment on every material and every action and process we see. The people that made these things didnt know that rock was made of minerals or that smelting copper from ore made green fire due to chemical makeups of the stone. They didnt even know that the earth was round and that the stars were stars. They had no idea that bacteria made you sick. Everything was trial and error and the cause of just about everything you can think of was a complete mystery. The world must have really felt like a magical place.
Hi Will, just watched yet another excellent video on flint knapping, thank you. I was wondering if our ancestors were more interested in the flakes from the knapping than the dagger. I would imagine that the flakes would make great cutting tools and there were a lot more flakes than one dagger. Please don't be offended, the dagger is beautiful and I am not criticising it in anyway . It's just I that I wonder what it was like, all those years. Sincerely Barry.
Hello my friend. Recently discovered you channel. Was referred from “the history squad”. You guys should meet. Both craftsmen of the highest order and are both passionate about what you do. I saw in an older video that you sold items on ETSY but when I went there it sad no longer available. I would feel honored for the opportunity buy something that you have made. Is there a place I can go? Currently binging all your content. Simply amazing.
Great video. The leg bone you used as a handle, that you got out of the river themes. Is that a human leg bone? 😳 if so, I bet that person never thought they'd be reincarnated into a flint knife 😅

Hi Barry yes mate they are much better for slicing than the dagger itself and I personally use them all the time
I think the slowed clip at around 2min is the flake before the cortex, not the cortex itself
It is.

I have a question about presure flaker. Can you use brass rod in stead of copper?
I personally think it’s too hard so it doesn’t grip the flint
Thanks for your help 👍
