    Great technique. Always wondered whether he could've been faster without looking forward while he swam with all that drag. Maybe his kick really did make up for it. Bummer he didn't go under 3:40 and the suit guy from Germany beat his record by 0.01 seconds. Would be the oldest world record still in swimming.

      tenningale ... Thorpe had to adjust his body position to allow the legs to work as they did. As a result, he sits a little lower in the water which then allows his head to be a little more upright (and look forward). If he had a traditional body position Thorpe would have had no balance.

      @@donna25871 And he only takes 15 strokes per 50 (counting a full cycle as one). That's impressive. A lot of Olympic male swimmers have to take 18.
