He doesn't tell Jae-mi that he is dying because he wants to enjoy this trip and make her want to go on this trip as well and have fun. If he outright said that he is dying she would most likely treat him differently and he doesn't want that.
The names in this series are pretty funny. Johnna is a bad word in Korean. It is similar to the F word and is used as an adjective. Haejo sounds similar to "Hae jwo" which means " Do it". Jaemi translates to "fun/interesting/exciting".
I totally get your rage, you don't just abandon a kid! Even when it turns out he is technically your stepson. You're punishing your kid for the mistakes made by others. Unacceptable. Even if you feel betrayed by those mistakes, that made you a "fake parent", you never let the child feel your disappointment, as if the child is the mistake...
There's no way I'd ever abandon a child i have raised for 8 years, I don't think I'd even slightly be able to treat them any different, like that's my child!! Also I completely agree with when you said as much as you liked the mc you want Jaemi to end up with Heung cause that's 100% how I felt while watching it cause I just love Heung so much he's such a good person
i really like this drama and actually though i like haejo and feel really sympathetic for him in many ways i also think he’s very selfish, like he knows he’s dying and yet he won’t tell jaemi like he never thought about the trauma he would put her through but still can’t help to love them together
Love the main guy. No they’re not doing “that trope”. You’re just mad because you like the “nice guy”. Being nice doesn’t mean you get to have the girl. That older guy is too sheltered by his overbearing mum and is a weirdo for trying to marry a girl that’s 12 years younger. She was never meant to be with him, he needs to marry someone closer to his age and stop acting like a fool for a girl waaaay younger than him. The main guy and main girl have childhood trauma, you need to stop missing the point of the drama. And it was obvious the nice guy would help them as he, or any other decent person, should. Grown man. He’s going to look foolish regardless trying to get between a much younger couple. 12 years younger! Old enough to be her dad’s brother.

I love the actors who play the three main characters. Looks, talent, chemistry. Everything. 🫶
Usually, if the main character doesn't tell about his illness, it's because he doesn't want to be pitied.

It's not like they were dating as minors. The female lead too wanted to marry that guy and he treated her pretty well.
