You need a Buffer Relay Interface as well to protect the PTT keying line on the 705. The guy where you bought the cable from sells them as a package (RBI-1 Buffer Relay). It may be ok for a while without the Buffer Relay, but it's insurance against blowing a very expensive radio.

Isn't 5 watts the recommended max input on xpa 125b ?
I hope you don't cause some folks to burn up or fry their rigs.

Most times I only use about 2.5 watts. To tune it you need to send the full 10 watts into the amp on RTTY. That triggers the tuner to tune. Then you turn it down once you start making QSOs.

Just looking at pricing I’m guessing you ended up around $1700-$1800 dollars all-in for the radio and the amplifier. If you wanted the 100w wouldn’t it have made sense to just get an Icom 7300 for $1000?

If you knew how I acquired both you would think differently. The radio was less than the cost with a bunch of extras like batteries and the backpack. It was used. I love my 9700 and 7300 and wanted to do 100 watts with the used IC-705 I got. Plus today both are much more expensive they when I got them in 2021. So now maybe I wouldn't go that route but the path was not as simple as just dealing with price.

I have the same setup as this. The reason I did it was really you end up with 2 radios essentially. I plug it all in at home and I have a 100w base radio. When I want to operate portable I can just unplug the radio from the amp and take it into the field using qrp. I love it.
