    With you all the way. I do use a Vanquish 540 and really like it (but strangely didn't take to an Equinox I briefly had) but my go to machine is my old faithful C Scope 6 Mxi with 9, 11 and 14 inch coils. I've spent years learning the signals so don't need the VDI displays, depth bars etc.etc. I'm 64 now and will continue as long as I can with my CS set up. Yes its slightly heavy but a £19 Amazon sling harness cures that issue. New machines are brilliant, i totally accept that, but to me, sometimes old is best and that's where I stand 😁👍

    The truth is that many good targets can be found by older detectors. The real challenge is putting your coil over the target. Good research and good permissions can outperform new technology any day.

  • @richardcastle3204
    @richardcastle3204 2 года назад +17

    I'd say old detectors are more relevant than target IDs. The number of vids I've watched where the detectorist swings over a target dozens of times whilst saying "Hmm, 66...oh, it's jumped to 72...back to 66, which usually means copper..." and I'm thinking "Just dig it! You're going to dig it anyway! You're going to dig every decent signal regardless of the numbers!"

    Hi iv just seen this vid and absolutely loved it....looking at your settings you will be losing a hell of a lot of deptth and separation....
    You had silencer on 2 ...this slows down the machine and does not allow signal bleed which effectively masks close targets and ones at depth...setting 0-1 is preferred
    And also you had disc in auto...this drastically reduces depth...this setting also notches coke out which can also lose good targets.disc should really be as low as possible just clicked out of auto orbit n about 6-9...hope this helps

    The last time I was in England to detect, (hard to believe it's been 25 years! ) I took a Troy X-5 (19 khz). It was powered by a single 9 volt battery. The depth was incredible! I found a dozen Roman coins, a bullhead sixpence , 4 hammered coins, 2 stirrup mounts, and numerous other coins and relics. I still have it and will never let it go!

    So true , back in the analogue days detectorists where less Mislead for sure . Get that legend in 60 tone . Through the audio you can easily tell if good or bad target. I hardly dig much if any rubbish in that setting , had around 200 hours using it in 60 tone. #historyrevisited

    Trashy fresh water with low to no viz and a lot of obstacles cables and wires can get cought on: no better machine than the 35 year old fisher 1280x!
    Drawback: the water proofing is crap and the service by the manufacturer horribly poor.
    I modified mine and now it is really water proof (built a new box and got rid of all knobs, the only remaining on/off now being a reed).
    That said, I would love to see a digital machine with the usability, simplicity, ruggedness and ergonomics of the old analog machines!

    I always think of the digital radio in the car. It never seems to be quite in tune, and no one ever confidently masters the digital menus and settings, where the old car radios could just be tuned in by listening with your Mk1 ear'oles and twiddling a knob and a bit of string.

    strictly tuned and no hassle with finding the supposedly right mode or deceiving irritating numbers
    picked 3 silvers yesterday evening in still lasting low conductivity desert soil conditions without any problems.......one of them a english hammy and apparently my first ever love token......the most english thing one could have done to a coin !

      btw, does anybody here know a good page about medieval english moneyers ?
      it's a Henry III (?) London mint, struck by a certain "Nichole" but it looks different then all his Henry IIIs I saw so far
      voided short cross, instead of a longvoided one and Henry's beard made up of strands and not pellets (also having a shaved chin section like H. II) and the legend clearly reads "NIChOLE ON LUN(D?)" instead of "OL LUND"...solved ! Henry III, class 8 b
