24:07 about Yuko's paintings idk if i made a mistake but I read the title as I can no longer marry you! I hope you're correct because it would really be heartbreaking if someone said that to an SA victim. Her work is just so strong and conveys emotions so well. if the context i understood for, "i can no longer become a bride" is accurate, then i can see another reason beyond just the horrific imagery for that poem to become synonymous with that painting.
@@shadows-sweet-embrace yep, i went and did a deep dive on the subject (thus the link in my other comment) so i had an idea, but i didn't know the settings for the community guidelines and wether that would flag "sexual assault" so i just went real vague with it
i recognized the woman in the window immediately because i watched the movie on youtube a few times several years ago. i dont think it was an upload of the actual movie, just a compilation of several ghost stories from the series. the story about the music box and the upstairs stomping really stuck in my mind.
Same same. I came across it while on a Japanese horror movie binge on RUclips. Seeing that it was created in collaboration with those who did Ju-on I'm certain it was recommended because of that. I can't remember the full details of it, but I think the shadow woman was the recently passed mother of the children. The older girl was a relative who had come to visit sometime afterwards. What I remember the most about the video was a section based on the lore of a Tengu. He'd copy the looks of people passing on this dirt road and it ends with him eating(?) a victim? I just remember this very silly moment of him slowly coming up to the camera with a strange expression like he was gonna eat you and it goes to black lol. If I can find it again I'll share it UPDATE: Got it! "13 Real Asian Horror Stories (Eng Sub)" by OgrePsycho 🎊
Attempted to add the update a couple times but I guess RUclips took it as spam...if they show up eventually due to RUclips doing whatever, I apologize lol. Update with video title in my original comment though!
Tomino’s hell is that one case where the source image and it’s subject matter is WAY creepier than the creepypasta subject matter and it’s image edit LOL.
From what i know, the Mail Slot Woman is just a magazine that was left in the mailbox of someone and the girl in the cover was just enough tilted to seem real at first, but wasn't more than a joke to the OP, from then it spiralled to become a kind of "horror image" and some horror backstory were created for it.
Oh man, thank you for linking Yuko Tatsushima’s webpage- I’ve seen people talk about how the art is unrelated to the poem before, but I’ve never looked at their website. Their photography is this fascinating mix of nostalgic and unsettling in a way I can’t articulate. Man, I hope they’re still around and doing well. Their art has a lot of pain in it :(
Hold on, I believe the @ is just yukotatsushima!! The correct account is the one that posted within the last day. This is according to comments I’m getting, I’ll link her Twitter once I’m able to look myself!
@@SakuraStardust I don't know if this is still the case, but the last time I looked at her Twitter, she was posting about feeling overwhelmed (in a bad way) with the amount of people following her. Your Japanese skills seem to be better than mine, but I got the impression that if I were to follow her, or interact in any way with her, even though it would be because I love her art, it would have a negative effect on her well-being. I got the impression she wanted to be left alone. I'm not saying not to look at her posts, but personally, I wouldn't follow her.
13:30, that hair style actually ressonated with me so much, the bang style, the pigtails, that I actually cut my hair to look like that. I dunno, I personally think she looks very sweet. I think it’s just unfortunate lighting and negative space, but I just really like it! ❤
thank you for sharing that link to yuko tatsushima's blog! i've only ever seen the "i can no longer become a bride" piece, none of her other art. all of it is very gorgeous in my opinion; it's really powerfully haunting, and i'm so glad i was able to see the rest of her work
I remember being in that phase of creepypasta (I was like... 12? 13 y/o), and getting really scared and disturbed by the ilustration that came along with "Tomino's Hell". Now knowing the true meaning and judging it by a more mature look (now I'm near of 20), it's actually sad and even more scary, but it feels different from what scared me when I saw it 6 years ago. I got curious and searched some of her artwork and... I'm pretty much suspect to say, 'cause I like dark/horror/terror illustration, but I really admire and love the way she works with line and color, they complement the way the art deliver the impact (despising the heavy topics she usually depicts). Amazing vídeo by the way! Thanks for explaining all of those strange and uncanny images!
I'm Japanese! It's really great that I stumbled upon your channel's video. I'm a big fan of Yuko Tatsushima, and I've actually talked to her at a gallery in Tokyo. It's the first time I've heard about the association of her work with Tomino's Hell overseas. This piece was created as a rebellion against the domestic violence and sexual assault she experienced from a partner at the time. She's a quiet and intellectual person, and she's still doing well. She continues to create, and now her works seem to have fewer colors and depict more peaceful themes than before. Her recent works aren't seen much on the internet, but that's also her intention.
I knew right away that the Google Maps response to the shadow woman was wrong because by law Google would have to blur out the children's faces. Also yes, I would LOVE more videos of these.
I've been looking for that horror movie for years now, thank you so much for covering it!! I saw that window woman scene on RUclips years ago and forgot the name of it.
I would absolutely love to see more of this series, I love content that delves into the deep dark corners of the web, and disturbing images are no exception. Keep up the great work as always!!!
Someone actually found the Michaelsoft Binbows!! He did a whole video about it and it’s wild. I love your video and how much work you put into it! Finding the origins of photos is difficult and I wish I was savvy enough to do it!

Yuko Tatushima is one of my greatest art inspirations. Some of the subject matter she depicts really, really connected with me. I learned so much from studying her work. I have a piece called "Habeus Corpus" that was directly inspired by her and artist Tom Wright. Her way of expressing such trauma is incredible.
YUKO TATSUSHIMA MENTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love her so much she's literally so so cooool !!! i'm so happy recently she's getting more recognition she deserves it :3 her paintings are allegedly based on trauma so it makes me super sad to see people using it on a dumb creepypasta that isn't even scary :( she's so cool though i love her work! 2 years ago in 6th grade we had a biography project and i based mine on her :3 she's so so awesome /srs
Anyone know if Tatsushima's 'I can no longer become a Bride' is available as a print anywhere? It's such an iconic image, and conveys such a brutal honesty.
YES!!! I absolutely love origin videos of disturbing, creepy or "cursed" images and videos. That and creepy or disturbing youtube channels as I find it fascinating the things people can come up with and how creative they can be when it comes to scary or odd stuff.
I cannot thank you enough!! I watched Tales of Terror years back after finding it just randomly posted onto youtube and have been dying to rewatch it since, but I never knew the actual title and couldn't just identify it just based off the descriptions- But I recognized the image of the woman in the window right away!! I'm so excited to finally be able to watch the movie again!
would definitely love another part to this series !! somehow finding origins to creepy images makes them a little less unsettling but still interesting nonetheless ( ´ ▽ ` )
Love this image research style of video! The part about that commercial with the long necked woman was so nostalgic from watching creepy commercial compilations when I was younger, but I never knew the origin of it. That magazine sounds awesome! Thank you!
I feel like Occam's Razor is the most correct solution to the Pale Woman photo. It could have been a late high schooler, or someone who moved out of their home recently, taking a picture for a dating site or someone close to them. The lighting on the subject seems to me like what you would get if you only had the ceiling light for a light source, and they didn't have a table for their computer to sit on so they had to sit on the floor in a very awkward position.
Even though I saw it in the thumbnail, and even though I knew exactly what was coming, the reveal of the shadow woman ghost's eyes still jumpscared me lmao. I would love a part two!!
OMG Yusuke is adorable! Another great video! I love that Sailor Moon 🌙 statue in the background! That painting... the colors and the art are so creepy. I'm intrigued by that cursed poem but I'll stay away!
I love these style videos or finding out the origin and story behind disturbing things. The fact that you can actually read the Japanese and such is a whole nother level and I’m here for it. Just like how I watch Gab Smolders for when she plays Japanese horror cuz she translates more of the game so we get more of the experience
So what im hearing is Japanese art/humor generally just comes off as unsettling through a Western lense lol Really interesting stuff! Knowing the origins of these always makes me feel a little braver
Lol you know how westerners can have vastly different tastes in and sense of humor? Apparently the Japanese are a hivemind that all share the same taste in and sense of humor. Kinda racist honestly.

I actually remembered watching the "The Woman in the Window." the video had been on youtube at some point ( during when youtube wasn't as strict as it is now. ) it was even subbed, so i could understand everything that happened. and being a kid, it scared me a lot and made it hard for me to sleep at some nights whenever I thought of it. but as an adult? I actually felt bad for the woman.
I need to let you know: a RUclipsr named “Gubby” just made a video that lazily copies your Woman in Window part of this video. His uses some of the same screens as your own video. Just letting you know Sakura…
For the mail slot woman one you can totally tell it is just a badly placed flyer the face does not look 3-D at all. So knowing it is a flyer that may help in the search if it was say an add for a common brand of makeup or something like that

This Halloween I'm rewatching Masayuki Ochiai's 2004 "Kansen" aka "Infection." Can you make a video of other obscure & forgotten spooky Japanese films, please?
whoa, HJ Freaks jumpscare! i'm a huge fan of his, he's an amazing artist and i love his use of casual erotica in his performances. it's worth noting that while HJ is south korean, he currently lives in japan and is fluent in japanese. so even if he's not fluent in english, reaching out in japanese should work if he cares to respond. that said, having seen a lot of his videos and most of his vlogs, I don't think he's the person in the photo. They look very different to me.
I found this channel completely randomly and it's interesting. I love japan and its culture. I had no idea they had these interesting urban legends however
It always irked me when people said that it's from Google Maps and became a big "mystery," when I loved watching that movie, etc, as a kid especially, but I could never find it on RUclips again until more recent years. Thank you for letting more people know!
I really enjoyed this video, I love those type of mysteries on the internet and especially the Japanese ones. Hope you make more of this videos soon. Also your voice is very pleasing to hear

I don't know how I stumbled upon your channel but I'm glad I did. Always something interesting that's outside my normal lane of content. Thank you for the entertainment.
Maybe as a suggestion you should cover more serious topics in Japan and I suppose cross-link between media depictions of these cases or atrocities?? To give an example, Miss Sakura, the manga series known as Brutal: Confessions of a Homicide Investigator often touches on the corruption and sloppiness of the legal system in Japan. It showcases in graphic and disturbing details some of the worst men alive living with Japanese Society and we as the audience get to witness how these men are brutally punished and killed for their atrocities. I recommend if you are interested in taking that direction!

it very much screamed art students tbh, It reminded me of the various stuff art students have done in the UK
@@nicholaslienandjaja1815 probably could kind someone doing that in a walmart
24:45 Yuko is alive and well. She has a Twitter where she posts random stuff. I’m pretty sure she’s still making art too
if the context i understood for, "i can no longer become a bride" is accurate, then i can see another reason beyond just the horrific imagery for that poem to become synonymous with that painting.
though not in the sense of "war" that the original poet meant to show, but more in that of her "hell"
It's a piece talking about sexual assault. A lot of her art references and talks about sexual trauma.
If I can find it again I'll share it
UPDATE: Got it!
Yeah that's how I saw it first as well. I just vaguely remember it was a collection of Japanese ghost and urban legends or something.
Starting off with people in pigeon masks to jump into a scentbird sponsor made me laugh so hard.
I would LOVE a part 2 to this
YAASSS
Me too!
and a part 3 and part 4 and part 5 and part 6 etc
YES!! I would also LOVE MORE
Yes!!!
Tomino’s hell is that one case where the source image and it’s subject matter is WAY creepier than the creepypasta subject matter and it’s image edit LOL.
The first one is what happens when you play Hatoful Boyfriend while high af.
lmao I forgot about that fever dream of a game
this is exactly something that i needed to watch before sleep. sakura never disappoints
Their art has a lot of pain in it :(
People have said she’s active on Twitter, but I haven’t found the page just yet!
Hold on, I believe the @ is just yukotatsushima!! The correct account is the one that posted within the last day. This is according to comments I’m getting, I’ll link her Twitter once I’m able to look myself!
Okay, got it! twitter.com/yukotatsushima
I saw that video That channel really inspires me to go to Japan for content and dig deep with research! Even the simplest images have quite the story behind them when it’s told right 😄
He actually went to the place recently. The computer store that used that name doesn't exist anymore, and the building now houses a cram school and a restaurant (which he made sure to eat at, of course)
@@robertoazuaje9279 that’s so cool! He’s really living the dream!
@@SakuraStardust So, out of options, you knew what you had to do. You booked a flight
the last pic is my favourite purely because of how quickly it goes from terrifying to funny when you think about somebody checking their mailbox and seeing THAT only to realise it's a magazine
Had to come by comment some encouragement for Sakura.
You had mentioned before you were nervous about showing your face but look at how far you’ve come. It seems so effortless for you now.
Always great to see our content host, makes the experience feel like a passionate friend who is showing us all the weird and unsettlingly strange stuff they found out about Japan.
Thank you so much 😊 It still a bit of an adjustment but it does get easier with each video! And the support of my wonderful viewers helps so much too 🥲
@@SakuraStardustIt's only been about a week since I've seen and started watching your videos so I never knew you just recently revealed your face. I think you're absolutely adorable and you have gorgeous eyes. I know I'm only one person but I hope it helps a little. 😊
At 19:39 my laptop froze and I could only hear some buzzing static in my earphones. I thought it was just Sakura being creepy on purpose, but then I noticed the entire laptop froze. I have a good laptop, didn't have many tabs open and wasn't even actively using it, just listening to the vid, it has never frozen up on me like this before. I almost shat myself.
6:46 that's how I look after I finish finals week, head empty and having transcended the mortal plane due to stress
I remember that feeling quite well
Love that you have the Scentbird ad after the pigeon people segment
I’ve ALWAYS wondered where that shadow woman image came from!!! Thank you so much!
The shadow woman in the window is actually a photo of me taken after I had pulled an all-nighter.

Congrats on the sponsor! I rarely see RUclipsrs promote services that interest me but this channel usually delivers!!
Thank you! I take sponsors I genuinely like and will use over just sponsoring anyone who reaches out, so I absolutely recommend Scentbird! 😊
I love Scent Pigeon Head! Glad you got sponsored by them!
You’re adorable! I watched that entire Patreon ending because of that cute charm of yours!!
The tomino's hell painting actually made me sad, the backstory behind it is so upsetting. :(
michealsoft binbows was actually solved!! nick robinson has two videos on it
OMG Yusuke is adorable! Another great video! I love that Sailor Moon 🌙 statue in the background!
That painting... the colors and the art are so creepy.
I'm intrigued by that cursed poem but I'll stay away!
It amuses me that quite a few of the weird, perplexing things people post on the 'Net turn out to be artists/art students doing art things.
Why do I like this content so much? Why is the unease so comforting?
I love these style videos or finding out the origin and story behind disturbing things. The fact that you can actually read the Japanese and such is a whole nother level and I’m here for it. Just like how I watch Gab Smolders for when she plays Japanese horror cuz she translates more of the game so we get more of the experience
Thank you so much! I studied Japanese in college so I try my best to bridge that gap for the viewer 😊
I love this editing style so much omg
So what im hearing is Japanese art/humor generally just comes off as unsettling through a Western lense lol Really interesting stuff! Knowing the origins of these always makes me feel a little braver
Lol you know how westerners can have vastly different tastes in and sense of humor? Apparently the Japanese are a hivemind that all share the same taste in and sense of humor. Kinda racist honestly.
New Sakura Stardust video lets goooo. Will watch this when laying down later tonight. For some reason i like watching your stuff when going to bed haha
Fantastic video, backing up others asking for a part 2 whenever you find enough material ❤
No shit, what the link bestie??

For the mail slot woman one you can totally tell it is just a badly placed flyer the face does not look 3-D at all. So knowing it is a flyer that may help in the search if it was say an add for a common brand of makeup or something like that

I had been watching RUclips on my TV, and I let this video autoplay and the intro actually spooked me quite a bit. Good job👍
26:54 holy- it's even worse in motion, and those sound effects...
this type of video really gets me thinking about every random image i have seen on the internet that could have an interesting backstory, this is fun.
whoa, HJ Freaks jumpscare! i'm a huge fan of his, he's an amazing artist and i love his use of casual erotica in his performances. it's worth noting that while HJ is south korean, he currently lives in japan and is fluent in japanese. so even if he's not fluent in english, reaching out in japanese should work if he cares to respond. that said, having seen a lot of his videos and most of his vlogs, I don't think he's the person in the photo. They look very different to me.
OOOO PLS MAKE A PART 2 i love stuff like this (i mean i love ur videos in general ur channels bangers all around)
Scary Japanese pictures and urban legends are probably the only ones that really get me and scare me, I love videos like these
I found this channel completely randomly and it's interesting. I love japan and its culture. I had no idea they had these interesting urban legends however
I have this strange fear of seeing eyes in the darkness, and, by God, that shadow woman set it off, leaving me short of breath.

Interesting! I’ll look into it!
