  • This is a 90-minute debate between a libertarian economist and a Keynesian economist. They will be discussing the motion “This House Believes that Government Intervention Is Necessary In Times of Economic Crisis”.
Proposing this motion we have Will Hutton…
Will Hutton is an academic, journalist and the former Principal of Hertford College, Oxford. He was formerly editor of The Observer and economics correspondent for Newsnight. His books include The State We’re In (1995) and How Good We Can Be (2015). He is a prominent supporter of remaining in the EU and a strong critic of neoliberal economic policies.
Opposing this motion we have Mark Littlewood…
Mark Littlewood is the Director-General of the Institute of Economic Affairs, a libertarian, free market think tank. He has previously worked with the Liberal Democrats and as an advisor to the Conservatives. He is a regular guest on programmes such as BBC Question Time, Newsnight and the Today Programme.
