General Hodges has explained since May that the Russians would reach the "culmination point" by early September and Ukraine would begin their counteroffensive to regain lost territory. Consistent message.

@@nikicajurcevic832 Correct. He's an experienced general. Amateurs study tactics. Actual generals study logistics. The logistics of the Russians was so obviously poor and ill considered, any move on Kupiansk would cut them off from re-supply from much of the eastern front.

When Ukraine survived the first week and reports of how badly prepared the Russians were to invade I was cautiously optimistic about Ukraine surviving and reclaiming a good part of it's territory.
Over six months later I am much more confident in Ukraine surviving but also retaking all it lost in the invasion and perhaps even take back Crimea.
Every tank the Russians lose, by abandonment or destruction, is a tank they cannot easily replace. Every plane taken out is one that is not easily replaced. Same with every ship, every anti-air system, every artillery piece, every missile system...
Every ammo dump lost or destroyed hinders them further. Every loss of a transport hub makes their horrible logistics worse and China's assistance has been mostly air.
Every battle lost, every push back, every civilian's glare, every death on their side tanks Russian morale further and further and *further*.
Meanwhile Ukraine is getting assistance by the EU, UK and USA with Poland being a major stand out. New equipment is coming in, everything Ukraine loses can be replaced.
Every man that dies or is wounded while mourned has two more ready to step into his place and take up arms. Every loss and tragedy makes them say 'I will permit no more' and every victory pushes them onwards.
When this war is over Russia will be remembered as a paper bear, a pretender at a world power. More and more their power is shown as false, a shadow of it's real, anemic self. Putin will be remember as a tyrant, a strongman of his people who did all he could to appear powerful and hide his weaknesses.
Meanwhile the Ukrainians will be remembered as defenders, as guardians of freedom. As plucky, never-say-die comrades in arms who in the early days scrounged up what they could and held the line until help could come. As warriors who took the fight to their enemy and forced them back. Liberators who saved their own people; rising up from their own troubles and the mires of their corruption and re-forged in the fires of war into a tempered blade.
And Zelensky will be remembered as a hero. The man who, when offered escape, dug in his heels, swallowed his fears and told those who offered 'I need ammunition, not a ride' and stayed at his post. He gave the people a figure to rally around, gave them a direction to their efforts and energies, gave them reassurance and pride. Hundreds of years from now he'll be remembered as the 'Man Who Saved Ukraine'.
Putin may well be remembered as the 'Man Who Destroyed Russia in the First Quarter of the 21st Century'.

No. The Allies supplied weapons, the Ukrainians are doing the heavy lifting here. They are the ones sacrificing tens of thousands of lives, or who knows, to fight this war. To make this into a sly political justification for Democrats who are trying to create a one party system in America like what happened in Ukraine is completely preposterous.

Ukrainians have written history here that will serve as inspiration to countless people for generations. Putin's vile authoritarianism came for yet another country and Ukraine said no, your reign of terror ends here. Words cannot quantify the courage and tenacity required to hold the line while support was marshalled and plans laid. When the last unwelcome Russian flees Ukraine, it will be our privilege to help them rebuild.

If Russia truly collapses into internal conflict between disunited factions, it will not be a good thing for the world. Look at how much conflict has come out of the Middle East since the fall of the Ottomans. Now imagine that scenario replaying with the largest nuclear weapons stockpile scattered between the different factions. Also even as bad as the current Russian leadership is, they’re nowhere close to as bad as the Ottomans were. We should not hope for the fall of Russia. We should hope they learn their lesson and work on rebuilding a peaceful, prosperous nation.

    • @donbsea

The ruling factions in Moscow will not have learned a thing. They have their mind-set and they will keep pushing for takeover of more land whenever they think they can get away with it. A few thousand(S) of people, their own troops, the people of whatever country they want to take over is just part of the deal. Greed, desire for more power, is a very scary thing. Look at today's Republican Party in the US, in Sept. 2022. They want power! At any price, a democratic nation being lost doesn't matter to them.
