He didn`t slaughter the aria. He just presented it in a different style, more like pop song. And I think he managed to do it very well. With all due respect to opera fans, pop, rock, opera, bell canto, etc.. They are not "superiro" or "inferior". Just different. For this rendition of "je crois" is one of the best I`ve ever heard.
Here here! I consider this aria as my signature and what he has done is absolutely phenomenal. This arrangement shows me a new perspective on how to look and perform this aria. I always had the feeling that you could jazz up Bizet and this definitely shows.
Sorry but Gilmour’s lack of proper vocal technique makes this proposition a limited version that only presents how limited his abilities are when it comes to singing, which is fine, no one is able to do everything. However, this really isn’t the « best » version at all. It really isn’t a dramatic departure from Bizet’s original. Adding choirs, guitars and extra instruments don’t change much….

I think it was rather smart of David to stick to a range or style that he does well rather than going further than he was able to do. I wish there were more vocalist who are like that. Listen to both, there is the same of element of grace.

Cette rencontre des genres qui donne à la musique son caractère universel et divin me rappelle l'interprétation par des orchestres symphoniques avec chœurs grégoriens de "Atom Hearth Mother". On voit là la différence de ce que sont intérieurement et spirituellement Gilmour et Waters. Pour moi le choix est fait depuis longtemps.
