bo ter berg Sunny location does seem to help in my case, but they can exhaust quicker if you don't continuously fertilize. I would love to try blanching with dill. That's delicious! Cheers!
What you said at the end of the clip cannot be emphasized more than ever in this pandemic that strike us all. This is the first time I am growing fava beans in my yard and I am so glad to learn the way to harvest and eat them as you have described, thank you so much for sharing.
I have a whole pound of Fava seeds.Ill be planting mine somewhere around the end of August to the middle of September. It gets way to hot down here on the Mississippi gulf coast where I live for spring planting. Just got our U e planted a week ago😁, will probably let them grow for a couple years before we decide to harvest them.
Great video and I learned just what I needed to know about fava beans, i.e. when to pick the pods. I also learned that I could have planted the seeds much earlier than I did! Thank you Wendi! (Jane in Victoria, BC Canada)
great video:) I love eating fava beans from the can, usually make ful mudames. Now I want to try growing them! It's a very attractive plant in your garden - never knew what they looked like before this video
I grew the Cucuzza and dried out for a gourd and should make 2 nesting sites for the small blue bird and house wren to watch dog my garden .. Cucuzza dehydrated well too,,great toss a hand full of chips into sweets or stews ,,it soaks in the strongest flavors
Just found some seedlings at one of my favorite health food markets in Gainesville. They are about 8 in. tall and already tipping over! Yours do not look staked. Perhaps it is because they were just transplanted. I've eaten them cooked once and didn't particularly care for them. But.... you make them look yummy. You could make any food look yummy~ LOL!! Truly though, growing it myself will probably be enough in itself to make me like it more. And, now I really want to rub the fuzzy, soft inner parts on my face~ BIG LOL!! I'm enjoying your sunny & fun personality.
I'm growing some fava beans near my newly planted fruit tree's this winter they are doing great :).They have a unique painted thumb print design on the seed. hasn't flowered yet though. -Phx az
Actually, the seed pods taste better than the beans. You can also eat their leaves too. They all taste like fava beans. The seed pods are more tender and sweeter when they are picked at a young stage. I stir fry the seed pods with marinated beef or pork. Cook the meat until 99% done first, set it aside. Then cook the seed pods by adding a little bit of water and soy sauce until 95% done. Add the meat back to the pods and stir them a bit until 100% done.
Hi Wendi I was thinking of growing these this year. Unfortunately I missed planting them this spring. Do you think I could plant some for fall? I live in Pa and our first frost is usually early October. Thanks!
Hi- just found your channel. This video was great to watch! New to gardening and am doing everything in containers. I just planted some favas, but I'm worried that it's too hot for them and they won't produce. I'm in zone 9b-10 (SoCal- Hollywood) and it's already scorching hot! Do you think putting them in a shady area will help?
I have some store bought broad beans. Can i dry them and keep them for sowing next season which is about december or late fall as i live in a 11a climate
Hi Wendi, I’m hoping you can help, I watched on RUclips “SciShow” and he said that fava beans can kill you....well some people 🤭 my husband and I both have had heart attacks myself only 7mths ago, wondering if you have ever watched it? If not could you watch it , I would love your opinion on it. I’m confused whether to eat hem or not. Any help would be good. Love your video 💓
I only ever call them by their British name "broad beans" because whenever you say fava bean someone always has to do that stupid movie quote, EVERY DARN TIME! Anyway, I heard they make their own nitrogen so I wonder if I could just plant them in the native texas soil, and not spent money on fancy soil n raised beds? I bet they will still produce quite well, just not as good. I plan to grow them in early Nov. and through the mild winter for Feb. harvest
I just harvested about 12 fava beans. the pods were around 5” and the beans inside are about half inch big. They taste kinda bitter. Did I harvest too early?
Bitter is usually when it’s a bit mature. Try harvesting earlier. I find that tastiest ones have a very tender bite, little sweet and no bitterness. This is found in a fava pod that is still very easy to snap to break.
+Erik Charles It's hard to judge since there's many variables. It could be weather being too warm, not enough water, or they are finishing their cycle. These have a short growing season.
I would appreciate that the video title fit to the video content. You don't explain how to grow the beans at all, you just show how to eat your beans :(
Has anyone grown fava beans!? They are so nutritious and delicious! Hope my video will inspire you to grow these. :)
Those look good Wendi. Thanks for sharing.
dakotabob10 Thank you, Bob! Are you growing any beans this year?
bo ter berg Sunny location does seem to help in my case, but they can exhaust quicker if you don't continuously fertilize. I would love to try blanching with dill. That's delicious! Cheers!
Yes but only some yellow variety.
These are amazing and give me incredible energy.

"Make this world a cleaner and more beautiful place to live." That's my mantra now. Thanks Wendiland.
I have some in my backyard, and they seem healthy. Waiting for the harvest in coming summer.
That's exciting! Happy Summer!

I'm thinking of trying to make microgreens with this soon.
Fave beans are the best energy boost
Fava beans can be grown as a winter crop. They can survive down to 10° F believe it or not. They will even germinate at that temp. 😉
Milk And Honey Acreage wow that’s phenomenal! I am growing them in winter now.
Love your videos. so insightful and very helpful for my garden

They are yummy raw and not quire mature - they taste bland when mature, and the frozen ones - forget it.
I didn't get that many all at once, and none as big as the one she eats here. So, I did wind up eating them raw. As you said, yummy.

jdizzilicious Yeah, I really like munching on them raw in the garden, but cooked is also tasty. I just think it's awesome that you can eat these raw!
Wendi Phan much agreement ...growing food is such an independence people seem to think food comes from a grocery store hahahaha

Do you do anything to fertilize them? I have a bunch of big plants with flowers onthem, but they are not producing any beans. ..
they looked like they were good!

A very common food in Ecuador.

I haven't seen them stand up straight like that with no support. I grow mine on a fence.

I''ve grown fava's for years. They don't taste like any other bean. You either like them or not. Some people are allergic to them however.
Subscribing for that hairstyle tutorial.
Any food for brain injury or damage?
I am wondering why some of my favas turned brown and shriveled up and died- about 20%
+Erik Charles It's hard to judge since there's many variables. It could be weather being too warm, not enough water, or they are finishing their cycle. These have a short growing season.

Quit smackin' geeeeeeeez 😑😂
Would you share some seed with me?
I read that fava beans are a great food to help loose excess weight. Thanks for showing the plant and bean pods.
