Stan Rogers was one of the finest singer-songwriters of the 20th century. His tragic death at 33 robbed us of 40 or 50 more years of great music. Thanks for sharing one of my favorite songs of his!
@@andreataylor5983 was it a crash? I remember reading that it was a fire that broke out on board and when the plane landed someone opened the door which caused the plane to depressurize and the fire to grow rapidly
You are not alone - Wikipedia says "When Peter Gzowski of CBC's national radio program Morningside asked Canadians to pick an alternate national anthem, "Northwest Passage" was the overwhelming choice of his listeners." Excellent sound and photography here - thanks, Ministry for posting.
@Aldo Steel This would be a great song for the new Wexit Nation as Ontario and Quebec think they are in their own universe anyway. And it was the Western provinces and Yukon that truly made Canada.
@The Number1 No, it's also about Kelsey and the HBC in the 1600s and about MacKenzie in the 1700s, and it's about every individual's personal quest of discovery. Great song.
Dear god, i am glad i got this song accidentally on my mix. It litterally played when i got to go sailing for the first time. It's been my favorite song ever since
Great job on the lyrics. I recently found Stan Rogers and looked into the history described in the lyrics. I can’t help but cry when I listen to this song, after learning about the many failed expeditions in search of a Northwest Passage between the North Pacific and Atlantic Ocean’s via the waters of Northern Canada. The tragic deaths of John Franklin’s men of HMS Erebus and Terror are really interesting. Lady Franklin’s Lament(aka Lord Franklin) is another great folk song detailing John Franklin’s expedition narrated through the eyes of a sailor assumed to be involved in search efforts. R.I.P. Stan Rogers and all of those who died in Arctic Expeditions of the 18th and 19th centuries
There's a wonderful mini-series on it, called The Terror. It's not 100 percent historically accurate, and takes a supernatural twist on the events of the failed Expedition, but it's still wonderful.
This is my families tripping song. We going for a nearly 2 hour road trip. Expect to hear this song being sung by one girl and two guys a couple of times. My sister doesn't sing this one much. Little bros are too little to sing it. Big bro and dad sing the solos. And mom sometimes joins in. Over all we love this song and very up lifting on long trips. Very beautiful, in my opinion.
Please do turnaround. The song from the ending of the 2005 movie "Terry" about a Canadian hero who lost his leg to cancer. And he wanted to raise money for cancer research until thunder Bay Ontario 1980 September 1 the cancer got in his lungs. He died in June 28 1981. Month before his birthday.
The Pacific Northwest has so much amazing and forgotten history. The old old days in Washington Oregon and even Alaska there was so much crazy stuff going on it’s mostly online if you do enough research. Love this song tho great job with the vid man!
This is the most majestic geography lesson I've ever heard
Unequivocally one of the greatest songs ever written.
As a distant relative of Sir John Franklin on my mother's side, I find this so beautiful and moving. A work of art, sung wonderfully.
This song always make me tear up. It reaches really deep!

Wait! He died?! Now I’m sad. I’ve been listening to his songs a lot recently
@@holdencross5904 He died in a plane crash years ago, but his music is eternal.

This should be our National Anthem

@Albanius - ah, the great Peter Gzowski. Nice to hear his name and remember all his great journalism and broadcasting. RIP Peter.

It's not?
Amazing. No musical backing at all. Just Stan and a few backup vocals. Gives me shivers.
What a remarkable song. This one is a true gift from Stan Rogers. RIP brother.

My dad and I sang this song to my brother at his wedding rehearsal dinner last year.
Exceptional, so inspiring, so very happy, knowing Amanda is a hero, saving others on burning plane
Although the events of the northwest passage are set in 19th century, Ubisoft could have put this song in assassin's creed Rogue. Simply beautiful
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. Nice touch at the and as well by adding in Rogers himself :)
Nice touch at the end showing Stan singing the song. Sadly I live in the city he passed away in but happily this beautiful song will live on. :)

"Sayith the lord of hosts, consider thy ways".
Great song

Beautiful English right there.
Great job on the scrolling lyrics and the background footage, thanks for posting!
Why is Stan Rogers not in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame?

This is a great lyric vid I love how the words move it's just so much easier to read that way
Gotta put the lyrics up before the words start.
fantastic
Lovely song, innit? Might I suggest also The Real McKenzies version.
Unleash the Archers version is quite a bit better imo. ruclips.net/video/XRD3vrSLPaw/видео.html
