  • A sari silk nuno felt jacket, made with resist and The Gentle Roller. We made it as difficult as possible to roll, using old sari silks and placing the fabrics first onto the resist.

    Thank you for making this video and for showing the problems. I've been wanting to make a jacket but didn't want to sew pieces together and wasn't sure how to get started.

      You're welcome. We were going with the flow, tackling problems as they came along as I had never used a resist before. :-)

    I'm thrilled with your initial decisions error tips. So generous of you to share! Thank you. I'm seeking to make a nuno silk and linen ,( or wool?) wool wet felt Tshirt

    this is fantastic! I'm a new felter and have a large needle felt machine that I can do yardage on, but it still has to have a wet finish. This might be perfect for me. Definitely something I'm going to think about.

      Mandi Ballard thanks for your comment. You must have a very large needle felter - is it more like a needle punched batt maker?
      The Gentle Roller is a wet felting machine and it does a great job of getting you a pre -felt. 😊

      Joan, yes, it’s like a punched batt maker. Its called the felt loom. It does a great job, but to get the felt really “glued” together I wet finish with a palm washboard. This helps a lot to get the silk fiber I add to be fully integrated. But it’s time consuming for larger pieces and I have been looking at wet roller machines. This way I could do large pieces quicker

      Mandi Ballard The Gentle Roller comes with a fulling drum and that does away with the hard work of fulling. gentleroller.com.au

      Lucy Mendez are you asking about the resist we used? It's pvc pond liner. The carrier fabrics for the Nuno were old used saris.

      Joan Cornell thank you. I meant “lay”. I’m new to felting and have tried the saris. Thanks for explaining why it’s difficult for them to bind to the wool. I thought that it was me doing something wrong.

      Lucy Mendez you're welcome. I have been working with the saris for several years. Start off with silk or cotton gauze as carrier fabrics. Silk gauze or Georgette in particular just loves wool and you'll have no problems with it penetrating the fabric. ☺

    How many grams of wool did you use?

      also for the pliable foam sheets, do you know where some might be acquired in large pieces?

    • @jonicornell-mersilk
      @jonicornell-mersilk  6 лет назад

      Hi Taylor I think I used around 260 grams of short haired superfine merino. It was a while ago now but I started with around 300 grams of wool and I have weighed what is left over and it's just under 40 grams.

      @@taylorboria4860 use floor underlay which is fairly inexpensive and is much better than the pool liner material.
