@@earlysda Yes. it is Biblical. The Nephilim are the giant offspring of the angels who had sex with human women. If you can read between the lines, you can figure out that Eve had sex with either Helel(Lucifer) or Samael and begat Cain and Able. Which is where human blood lines were infected with evil traits. This explains a whole lot on why things have been done the way that they have been. Only later did Eve give birth to Seth, which noted that Seth had the likeness of Adam. Apparently Cain and Able did not have such a likeness to Adam. This and the Book of Enoch explain leaps and bounds and gives us the why, where most of the Bible is like WTH is going on and makes no sense at all. I think that Mike's legacy will be in those who he has influenced to look at scripture less dogmatically which may be able to break us out of systems of beliefs that choke the word. That being said, I don't agree with Mike on everything. But, If I'm studying a book of scripture, I'll always go the NakedBible podcasts and download his transcripts because they're a good place to start.

I've only come across Dr. Michael Heiser about 6 months prior to his passing, watching him on some videos (one of them was Trey Smith's videos). I knew the Holy Spirit put me in his path, and I soon bought "Demons" and really connected with a lot he was teaching. It's a shame that the Lord took him Home so soon--I have still so much to learn from him (and I recently found out Mike could have been my mentor at Liberty University once I got into my research courses for my PhD in Bible Expo!😣) , but thank God we do have his books and videos to glean from. I remember years ago when I was around 16 years old, my best friend at the time showed me a photo his grandfather had taken many years before, in Japan. The backstory is they were on a tour of this old ancient forest with extremely tall trees. He took a picture of these trees and to his surprise, after he had the film developed there was a massive warrior figure in the forefront of one of the pictures in front of the trees, that wasn't there when he took the picture. It was obvious gauaging at the size of the trees, the level of the photographer's height, that this figure was at least 9' tall, fully concealed in armor but massively tall and muscular. His grandfather said he had never believed in ghosts until he saw that picture. The 16 year old me didn't understand it.. but believed it. I believe now, as a middle aged man , reflecting back on that story and picture... that it was a giant that Dr. Heiser speaks of.

And, there are countless articles on those trying to prove the man incorrect or label him a false teacher. Having an argument doesn't equal persuasion. You can be against him, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're correct. For many Christ-followers, Heiser has helped us laymen understand things from the scholarly world.

@byard55 Where's your evidence he's wrong? He has studied ancient language his entire adult life. Not that a PhD means everything but he has one. He has talked about the Rephaim, Nephilim, and other entities extensively. He presents a boatload of evidence in his books.

Chuck Missler. He's not with us now either, but, his works are great. I'm doing a study now with his 24 sessions on Revelation. Both Michael, and Chuck, were intelligent, and down to earth. He was pretty much the only evangelical Christian teacher/ thinker that I really respected. Dude had courage. The stuff he taught was not mainstream and could have easily kept him from getting jobs after all those years of college.
As Christian we can’t come at people with a matter fact type mindset. Peoples hearts have to right to soften by God. To non Christians we will come off as arrogant and not loving. Only God can give us a loving heart.
We are not called to control people’s reactions/feelings. We are called to speak plainly, with boldness, while gentle and respectful. I guess there is a subset of people that will bow down when someone uses false authority bassed you better do what I say, or you will experience my displeasure type gimmicks but it just drives any self respecting person away.
Extremely helpful!! I have been involved in cross-cultured missions and encountered lots of demons. When I am casting them out, they often say things and behave in ways that are so strange to me. I looked into the Bible and couldn't find the explanation. Then I was introduced to Dr Heiser a few years ago and began to listen and study intensely his lectures and teachings. Now I have developed a much clearer understanding of who these spiritual beings are and why they behave the way they behave. It helps a great deal because it provides a solid theology to substantiate my ministry. I miss Mike so much...

@@KenAmmi-Shalom thank, I'll check those out. Being that he's a Protestant, I definitely take what he says with a big grain of salt. Not that Protestants get everything wrong, but his stuff can definitely get weird. I'm intrigued by his theories and haven't found anything definitively wrong about the Nephilim/demons hypothesis, but I'm also definitely not sold on it and submit my judgement to the word of God spoken through His Church.
@@Aethelhart A grain of Dead Sea salt ;o) To bottom line it: He taught post-flood Nephilim so that's not a biblical doctrine, he just picked up one line from an "evil report" from centuries post-flood by unreliable guys whom God rebuked and ran with it. He taught that demons, "unclean spirits," are the spirits of dead Nephilim but did so via a merely linguistics based argument by picking up folklore from centuries, if not millennia, after the Torah and ran with it.

While we don't have the recorded command of God not to marry them, we can infer it, because many times later throughout the Bible we see injunctions of God warning his followers to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.
They are tho. Fallen angels are also evil spirits too, just not the only ones. Others are the spirits of the nephilim which remain here on earth. So in a way they are still descendants of the fallen angels, just not directly angels themselves. There are Also just demonic powers etc which are much more vaguely described and like the angels were never mortal beings.

The Nephilim, which weren't immortal became the evil spirits we hear about after the flood. You never hear about evil spirits messing with people until after the flood. Angels (good and bad) appeared to people before the flood and told them or showed them things but never possessed people. The fact that they took on physical form to marry and impregnate women indicates that they aren't spirits. Evil spirits weren't mentioned until after the flood, indicating that it was the spirits of the Nephilim which were not immortal and could die but could not enter heaven.
@PaladinOf-888 the spirit is physical. And yes the actual word used for both demons and angels is the same word outside of the English. It could also just refer to any form of spirit. What you seem to be confusing is a spirit which was once a mortal being, for a spirit which was never a mortal being.

To anyone who may read this with an open mind, in the original language of the old testament the word hell never appears. Tartarus or sheol do, and both of these words translated means grave/pit. Now read over all the verses in the OT with the word hell and replace it with grave/pit and you will see how it perfectly fits every verse. NOT ONCE is a place of eternal torment mentioned in the old testament manuscripts.
@@NoahHornberger not necessarily, John 3:16 pretty much spells it out. The wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Everyone was so caught up with wanting to believe this doctrine that they never stopped to ask a simple question. If eternal life is a gift, then how is it possible that everyone has it? When Jesus refers to Gehenna, I heard that was an existing idea, as this valley was a waste area, constantly burning, and deceased criminals and also animals got dumped there. So it was already, iirc, being used by the rabbis as an image of unending punishment. Not pleasant at all, but then just make sure you don't go there, and strive to reach out for others, even if only some of us are good at evangelism, we can all pray.

That's one interpretation. The other, much more prevalent throughout the Levitical materials is that unclean is to do with the dead. Unclean spirits are also called daimones (demons) which also included in popular culture to which the gospel writers were writing, human spirits of the dead that are not at rest with God. See the parable of the unclean spirit, which wanders through dry and arid places (places associated in cosmic geography with death).
Made me wonder, Would a person be condemned if there was a giant way back in their lineage? Would their spirit then also be unclean? How would a person would know whether there was a giant in their ancestry? Much of the world could be like that. But God's desire is that all would be saved so I'm thinking the unclean is because of their conduct.

Um, they're called "shedim" (שֵּׁדִים) in the Hebrew bible, Deu 32.17, Ps 106.37. See also the LXX and Targum of Ps 91.6 (or 90.6 depending on the numbering), and Tobit 6.8,16, etc.
I'm glad he points out the Old Testament roots of fallen angels, their offspring, and the disembodied spirits. Because I've heard some people criticize him as if this is his original idea or an opinion. What Heiser has done, which is clear if you read his books and look at the extensive bibliography, is research and compile his findings.

There is a "spirit" of moderate evil in our home. My husband does not feel it but this subject is discussed on a thread by elliothomes. I am a born again lady of 70 years. Never had this or anything kin happen. My mattresses are being poked from underneath, my stuffed chairs the same but only when I sit in them. I have felt a cat like spirit that is invisible walk across by bed for some time but went on to sleep. A few nights ago as I lay awake husband sleeping something larger jumped to my footboard. I shined by light on the area and asked "who are you"? This one is outlining my form one night up and down down and up till complete. Keep me awake with the pokes. I have since opened our door and my cat Purcy stares at something that I can't see. The 3rd day I heard a man's chuckle in the bedroom. ONly me there. I play gospel music and sermons for it to hear. I have asked it to leave in Jesus Christ name many times. A pastor friend came by but he does not know how to remove it. We read the bible aloud and it stops the poking. We are complete solid Christians, no occulet, no horror movies for us.
Check out the Book They Shall Expel Demons by Derek Prince. Likely you or your husband needs some deliverance from this thing (I guess you?). Are you feeling spiritually weak right now? Anything you can think of that’s unconfessed sin? The demon may be drawn to weakness, or he is simply testing your defenses.

If we consider Jesus as our model, it is Scriptural to ask them their name. But not much else. Among most exorcists (Catholic and Protestant), they only ask one or two questions: What is your name (by the power of Jesus), and in the case of the Catholics, when are you leaving? Other than that, they generally irritate the demon and command them to leave.

@@KenAmmi-Shalom I don’t disagree with you on principle, but the problem with something being biblical or not is that the Scriptures were written to and for people who had an understanding of the world that we have lost. In this case, it is VERY likely that the ancient Hebrews understood the Nephilim and what was happening there. So Moses didn’t need to explain it. They already knew it. In my case, I don’t need someone to recount the entire history of the US every time someone is writing about an event that occurred in our history.

So those creatures found by the 12 spies when they made their reconnaissance mission to the promised land, are the result of a second incursion by another group of fallen Sons of God? Some say second incursion. But some say the wives of Japeth and Ham carried the mixed DNA as all giants stem from the progeny of these two after the flood. Unknown. South American myths say some survived the flood by tunneling underground. Not sure.
The giants werent killed in the flood. According to 1 Enoch in the sentencing of the 200 watcher angels, they were forced to watch their offspring kill each other and then the watcher angels were imprisoned. That was around the time of Jared. In 1Enoch ch 12 it says the watchers taught enchantments, and cuttings of roots, then impregnation. So the giant offspring might have been a mixture of angel dna and the cutting of roots. In the book of Jasher it says that mankind also learned how to mix different species of animals together and thats what caused the flood. In Jubliees its says thay after the flood Canaan found the writting of the watcher in a cave. Its possible that the instructions for mixing dna and cutting of roots were part of the writtings that he found. In the conquest of the promise land with Joshua, they found gaint people and gaint grapes. Those instructions could have been from the writtings Canaan found. The human giants werent as big as the half angel giants so its probably just the cutting of roots and not angel dna mixing. These giants were probably normal humans that had been altered. The dna mixing could explain why whole towns had to be destroyed and God forbid the genetically mixing of beasts and plants. 1 ENOCH CHAPTER VII. 1. A lot of people think Nimrod (Gen 10:7-10) may be where the giants came back in. It is strange that Nimrod is listed separately from Cush's other progeny. Also "mighty hunter" may be a clue. The LXX in 10:8 actually says "He was the first on earth to be a giant". In addition, Josephus referencing Nicolaus of Damascus, says some people escaped the flood. “There is a great mountain in Armenia, over Minyas, called Baris, upon which it is reported that many who fled at the time of the Deluge were saved; and that one who was carried in an ark came on shore upon the top of it; and that the remains of the timber were a great while preserved” (Ant 1.3.6 §§ 95). Josephus, a Pharisee, elsewhere, had no problem with the fact that people other than Noah and his family survived the flood “which was the reason why there was no greater number preserved, since there was no place to fly to” (Ant 1.3.5 §§ 89). Pseudo-Eupolemus (prior to 1st century BC) goes even further: “Eupolemus, in his work ‘On the Jews,’ states that the Assyrian city of Babylon was first founded by those who escaped the Flood. They were giants, and they built the tower well known in history. When the tower was destroyed by God’s power, these giants were scattered over the whole earth” (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.2-3. He names a giant who escaped the flood as Belos (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.8-9; 9.18.2. Also 1Enoch has most of the giants being killed in internecine war prior to the flood. The giants also appear in Bashan with Og Num 21:33; 32:33 and Deut 1:4 which makes sense because Bashan is near Mt. Hermon where the Watchers descended (1En 6:6).
And yet… this brilliant scholar could not give up the idea that we live on a spinning ball. Joshua clearly states the sun circles the earth, yet he wouldn’t give up the satanic lies. The disconnect kills me, and he wasn’t even able to respectfully disagree ~ he was adamant that the earth as described in the Scriptures could only be believed by fools. He liked to be derogatory about those who take God at His Word. So sad for a supposedly Christian man.
This is difficult for me to understand. Do human souls of dead evil people also become demons on the earth, or just evil, giant, human hybrids? Did aliens mix with humans? 🤷🏻♀️
In terms of comparative mythology, I don't know if I agree with the idea in that the rephaim were the same as the apkallu. The apkullu were more like 'sages', almost human. There were seven of them and in sumerian folklore, they emerged from the 'sacred well' of fresh water, rather than an empty abyss. There's even one myth that the 'seven sages' were the seven families that survived the flood, and were able to redistribute their knowledge of the old world. They are analagous to the septarishi (seven sages) of hinduism. I'd say the rephaim are more like the greek titans, and their children are the olympians who overthrew them and locked them in tartarus. There were 12 titans, and 12 olympians. Since most myths originate in the stars (and many of the olympians are literally named after the planets), it's fair to assume that they represented the 12 signs of the zodiac. In contrast, the septarishis, and hence the apkallu, were associated with the seven stars of ursa major, which rotated around the pole star (axis mundi) in a 'surya' sun-cross shape each year.
Every other preacher/teacher says something at least partially different. if not completely different. Yet, they can make each explanation seem correct. So, over the decades, I don't really know which is what or how, etc. (An example in kind: I heard a preacher tell the congregation that he knows for a FACT why there continued to be Giants after the flood. According to him, not ALL the Giants drowned in the flood, because some climbed onto the TOP of the Ark , enabling them to survive the flood.)

I usually do not differ with Dr. Heiser about most of his teachings, but there are distinct scriptural references that ties fallen angels to demons. God refers to Satan as the "Devil" and a term that is used interchangeably with "Demon" which means "Fallen One" or "Adversary". The idea that demons are somehow separate entities, derives from the belief that they are the disembodied souls of the Nephilim. A falsehood, as only God has the power to create souls. So, demons and fallen angels are essentially one and the same.

Like many Christians, I grew up thinking that demons are one-third of angels who rebelled with Lucifer and were cast out of Heaven. (One-third of the angels remained loyal to God, and the other one-third were the angels who voluntarily left Heaven to mate with human females.) In reality, there's little biblical evidence for this idea. Heiser's theory that demons are actually the disembodied spirits of Nephilim/giants makes much more sense. Knowing that this idea is rooted in Second Temple Jewish thinking adds to its credibility. There's just one thing I have a question about: if demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, why did their souls not be sent to Gehenna/Sheol along with other wicked souls? Is it because only pure human souls can be sent to Hell, which means that unclean spirits, being a mixture of humans and angels, are cursed to roam the Earth?

Interesting possibility, and seems that they held some of these ideas back then. If one has encountered demonic phenomena, and studied such, it does leave one with the conundrum of where these corrupt spirit beings, that oppress in various ways, and pursue their lusts through us, if they can find entry, came from. One issue though with this view with some support from Bible passages, is that mankind seems to be small in number in primitive (stone age, bronze age) times, so there could not be many of these things, begot by some kind of illicit mix, whereas it would seem there are a lot more of them.
All I know is my mother was possessed by a demon that looked like a frog, from working the Ouija board. I had put a cross around her neck and the demon took it off. It literally took the cross off as she slept. She awoke hearing a windstorm in the house, and felt a "pop" in her breastbone. She said a frog with red eyes was in the corner of the room, and it glared at her. She said she looked at the pillow and the cross was off her neck, with the chain linked together. It doesn't sound like this man had the real life experience that I had. 🐸
That doesn't mean that he's wrong, did you expect demons to look like Goliath? There's a lot of references in the Bible that tell us these spirits look like serpents or frogs, some kind of reptilian type.

Couldn't discern any truth in this. Read the transcript. What facts are supported from the biblical text? Not one. Just speculation from traditions and assumptions from conjecture or from silence. We have no idea which spirits aside from the bad sons of God are sent to prison or what that prison is, and which are left active. I also find it hard to believe that God would allow a dead Nephilim to operate freely. Very disappointed.
Error and separation still exist today regarding Genesis. All of God's creation was GooD and manifested by/from the Light of God. God's will was for them to Matthew fruit of Good/Evil. One also would have to eat from that tree before being able to eat from the Tree of Life. The snake was his creation. One of the animals who where entities (personalities) named by man. The angels in the Salt Sea city judgement account, in Genesis 19, when they go down to the cities,do interestingly there, have real physical bodies, although one would not expect those bodies to be functional as regards offspring generation in our human fashion. (Speculatively maybe "fallen angels" could clone human bodies, then use them, then their coarse natures would cause epigenetic changes feasibly, such that the DNA would itself be messed up in characteristics as a result, as well as the spirits who had somehow got into such cloned bodies, as kind of flesh suits. They might also be able to mix in other DNA to make a more ferocious and strong body, we can ourselves tamper with e.g. plant genetic code. ??)

They didn’t. It appears that the same thing happened again after the flood with another group of disobedient angels. And who is to say it doesn’t happen now? All God’s creation is given free will. Galatians 1:8. “But even if we or an ANGEL FROM HEAVEN preach any other gospel to you, let him be accursed”. Angel from where? Heaven. They still have free choice.

@@kciwner I appreciate the qualifying term, "It appears" since what you said isn't Biblical so, actually, it doesn't appear in the least bit since there's literally zero reliable indication that any such thing would or could have happened. That implies that God failed, He must have missed the "same thing happened again after the flood" loophole so that the flood was much of a waste. As for, "who is to say it doesn’t happen now?" Then reply to me and see if it’s close? First, the church translators used the word Hell for two different locations or realms. The fiery pit that Satan and his follows are cast is the Hell. The big one. No one has been sent to this one yet. There has been no judgment day yet. Satan and his followers are still free and not bound. All people, after they die, their spirits go to either of two separate realms. I call them spirit prison or spirit paradise. Depending on their acts on earth while alive. Here they are still aware, still conscious. Christ went and taught to theses spirits which is found in the Bible after he was crucified. After the judgment everyone will be resurrected from both. And receive their inheritance. The only spirits that go to the actual “big” Hell are satan and his followers and if any, someone who committed the unpardonable sin. But to do this this you have to have a complete knowledge of god, walked and talked with him, faith not required because he is known and then deny him. Only a small few on earth have been in the position to commit this sin, the same sin Satan and his followers committed. While these spirits await judgment day and the resurrection, they can still learn and except gospel covenants. This is where spirits who were born on earth in times before or were not given the opportunity to learn of the gospel, or of Jesus. They can except him here. Some people mistake the phrases “we are saved by Grace only”or “we are saved by faith”and “faith with or without works” are about entering heaven. I share my belief that solves the controversy. Everyone will be resurrected who received a body on earth. This is the reward for keeping their first estate, following Jesus instead of Satan. The followers of Satan lost their first estate, they did not receive bodies, they cannot be resurrected. The reward and inheritance for obedience is covered by Grace. All will return. Being saved by acts should be understood as “reward by faith and acts”. This is what judgment day is for, even though everyone is saved by Grace, there are additional rewards given to those who were obedient, so being “ saved” at this juncture is about the additional rewards. Why do people endorse text of non-biblical books over God's inspired word, the Bible? Genesis 1 repeats 11 times that all creation reproduces after their own kind. Why would God suspend his natural law of procreation and breathe life into these hybrids, if true? ~ Deuteronomy 32:39; ‘See now that I, I am He, and there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death ‘AND GIVE LIFE’. @@earlysda Yes. it is Biblical. The Nephilim are the giant offspring of the angels who had sex with human women. If you can read between the lines, you can figure out that Eve had sex with either Helel(Lucifer) or Samael and begat Cain and Able. Which is where human blood lines were infected with evil traits. This explains a whole lot on why things have been done the way that they have been.
Only later did Eve give birth to Seth, which noted that Seth had the likeness of Adam. Apparently Cain and Able did not have such a likeness to Adam.
This and the Book of Enoch explain leaps and bounds and gives us the why, where most of the Bible is like WTH is going on and makes no sense at all. This knowledge resolves most if not all of those questions.

How can you want me to comeback into a perishable body….while I’m enjoying all the promises of God?” “And by the way…..I’m no genius! As Paul said, I was the chief of sinners. I think that Mike's legacy will be in those who he has influenced to look at scripture less dogmatically which may be able to break us out of systems of beliefs that choke the word. That being said, I don't agree with Mike on everything. But, If I'm studying a book of scripture, I'll always go the NakedBible podcasts and download his transcripts because they're a good place to start.

I've only come across Dr. Michael Heiser about 6 months prior to his passing, watching him on some videos (one of them was Trey Smith's videos). I knew the Holy Spirit put me in his path, and I soon bought "Demons" and really connected with a lot he was teaching. It's a shame that the Lord took him Home so soon--I have still so much to learn from him (and I recently found out Mike could have been my mentor at Liberty University once I got into my research courses for my PhD in Bible Expo!😣) , but thank God we do have his books and videos to glean from. Can't wait to meet him when we are all at HOME with the Lord!🙏❤️✝️🕊️

Ir is so calming to hear his voice as he explains whenever he talks. So sad he is gone..still sending prayers for his family and the pets.
I remember years ago when I was around 16 years old, my best friend at the time showed me a photo his grandfather had taken many years before, in Japan. The backstory is they were on a tour of this old ancient forest with extremely tall trees. He took a picture of these trees and to his surprise, after he had the film developed there was a massive warrior figure in the forefront of one of the pictures in front of the trees, that wasn't there when he took the picture. It was obvious gauaging at the size of the trees, the level of the photographer's height, that this figure was at least 9' tall, fully concealed in armor but massively tall and muscular.
His grandfather said he had never believed in ghosts until he saw that picture. The 16 year old me didn't understand it.. but believed it.
I believe now, as a middle aged man , reflecting back on that story and picture... that it was a giant that Dr. Heiser speaks of.

And, there are countless articles on those trying to prove the man incorrect or label him a false teacher. Having an argument doesn't equal persuasion. He was pretty much the only evangelical Christian teacher/ thinker that I really respected. Dude had courage. The stuff he taught was not mainstream and could have easily kept him from getting jobs after all those years of college.

Extremely helpful!! I have been involved in cross-cultured missions and encountered lots of demons. When I am casting them out, they often say things and behave in ways that are so strange to me. I looked into the Bible and couldn't find the explanation. Then I was introduced to Dr Heiser a few years ago and began to listen and study intensely his lectures and teachings. Now I have developed a much clearer understanding of who these spiritual beings are and why they behave the way they behave. It helps a great deal because it provides a solid theology to substantiate my ministry. I miss Mike so much...

@@KenAmmi-Shalom thank, I'll check those out. Being that he's a Protestant, I definitely take what he says with a big grain of salt. Not that Protestants get everything wrong, but his stuff can definitely get weird. I'm intrigued by his theories and haven't found anything definitively wrong about the Nephilim/demons hypothesis, but I'm also definitely not sold on it and submit my judgement to the word of God spoken through His Church.

He taught post-flood Nephilim so that's not a biblical doctrine, he just picked up one line from an "evil report" from centuries post-flood by unreliable guys whom God rebuked and ran with it.
He taught that demons, "unclean spirits," are the spirits of dead Nephilim but did so via a merely linguistics based argument by picking up folklore from centuries, if not millennia, after the Torah and ran with it.

They are tho. Fallen angels are also evil spirits too, just not the only ones. Others are the spirits of the nephilim which remain here on earth. So in a way they are still descendants of the fallen angels, just not directly angels themselves. There are Also just demonic powers etc which are much more vaguely described and like the angels were never mortal beings.

The Nephilim, which weren't immortal became the evil spirits we hear about after the flood. You never hear about evil spirits messing with people until after the flood. Angels (good and bad) appeared to people before the flood and told them or showed them things but never possessed people. The fact that they took on physical form to marry and impregnate women indicates that they aren't spirits. Evil spirits weren't mentioned until after the flood, indicating that it was the spirits of the Nephilim which were not immortal and could die but could not enter heaven.

What you seem to be confusing is a spirit which was once a mortal being, for a spirit which was never a mortal being.

To anyone who may read this with an open mind, in the original language of the old testament the word hell never appears. Tartarus or sheol do, and both of these words translated means grave/pit. Now read over all the verses in the OT with the word hell and replace it with grave/pit and you will see how it perfectly fits every verse. NOT ONCE is a place of eternal torment mentioned in the old testament manuscripts.
All this means is they lacked sufficient revelation of the facts of eternal torment

Everyone was so caught up with wanting to believe this doctrine that they never stopped to ask a simple question. If eternal life is a gift, then how is it possible that everyone has it? When Jesus refers to Gehenna, I heard that was an existing idea, as this valley was a waste area, constantly burning, and deceased criminals and also animals got dumped there. Not pleasant at all, but then just make sure you don't go there, and strive to reach out for others, even if only some of us are good at evangelism, we can all pray.

That's one interpretation. The other, much more prevalent throughout the Levitical materials is that unclean is to do with the dead. Unclean spirits are also called daimones (demons) which also included in popular culture to which the gospel writers were writing, human spirits of the dead that are not at rest with God. See the parable of the unclean spirit, which wanders through dry and arid places (places associated in cosmic geography with death).
Made me wonder, Would a person be condemned if there was a giant way back in their lineage? Would their spirit then also be unclean? How would a person would know whether there was a giant in their ancestry? Much of the world could be like that. But God's desire is that all would be saved so I'm thinking the unclean is because of their conduct.

I'm glad he points out the Old Testament roots of fallen angels, their offspring, and the disembodied spirits. Because I've heard some people criticize him as if this is his original idea or an opinion. What Heiser has done, which is clear if you read his books and look at the extensive bibliography, is research and compile his findings.

There is a "spirit" of moderate evil in our home. My husband does not feel it but this subject is discussed on a thread by elliothomes. I am a born again lady of 70 years. Never had this or anything kin happen. My mattresses are being poked from underneath, my stuffed chairs the same but only when I sit in them. I have felt a cat like spirit that is invisible walk across by bed for some time but went on to sleep. A few nights ago as I lay awake husband sleeping something larger jumped to my footboard. I shined by light on the area and asked "who are you"?
This one is outlining my form one night up and down down and up till complete. Keep me awake with the pokes. I have since opened our door and my cat Purcy stares at something that I can't see. The 3rd day I heard a man's chuckle in the bedroom. ONly me there. I play gospel music and sermons for it to hear. I have asked it to leave in Jesus Christ name many times. A pastor friend came by but he does not know how to remove it. We read the bible aloud and it stops the poking. We are complete solid Christians, no occulet, no horror movies for us.

Among most exorcists (Catholic and Protestant), they only ask one or two questions: What is your name (by the power of Jesus), and in the case of the Catholics, when are you leaving? Other than that, they generally irritate the demon and command them to leave.

A great deal of hypotheses but not much actual Biblical proof connecting disembodied spirits to non-demonic spirits. I suppose we’ll have to wait to see in the end. I do know that any and all must obey the victorious risen Son of God. Of this we can be sure from Scripture. His title and His name are our shield and sword.
There is a great deal of “proof” of this in the Bible. And it’s supported by all of the traditions surrounding the Scriptures.

@@KenAmmi-Shalom I don’t disagree with you on principle, but the problem with something being biblical or not is that the Scriptures were written to and for people who had an understanding of the world that we have lost. In this case, it is VERY likely that the ancient Hebrews understood the Nephilim and what was happening there. So Moses didn’t need to explain it. They already knew it. In my case, I don’t need someone to recount the entire history of the US every time someone is writing about an event that occurred in our history.

Ok, I’m missing some info, obviously. So the Sons of God came down and created their own progeny: 1/2 fallen angel, 1/2 fallen human (Nephilim). God cooks their geese in the Flood. The Sons of God are sent down to the abyss. The spirits (of the dead Nephilim, demons) roam the earth. So those creatures found by the 12 spies when they made their reconnaissance mission to the promised land, are the result of a second incursion by another group of fallen Sons of God? Some say second incursion. But some say the wives of Japeth and Ham carried the mixed DNA as all giants stem from the progeny of these two after the flood. Unknown. South American myths say some survived the flood by tunneling underground. Not sure.
The giants werent killed in the flood. According to 1 Enoch in the sentencing of the 200 watcher angels, they were forced to watch their offspring kill each other and then the watcher angels were imprisoned. That was around the time of Jared.
In 1Enoch ch 12 it says the watchers taught enchantments, and cuttings of roots, then impregnation. So the giant offspring might have been a mixture of angel dna and the cutting of roots.
In the book of Jasher it says that mankind also learned how to mix different species of animals together and thats what caused the flood.
In Jubliees its says thay after the flood Canaan found the writting of the watcher in a cave. Its possible that the instructions for mixing dna and cutting of roots were part of the writtings that he found.
In the conquest of the promise land with Joshua, they found gaint people and gaint grapes. Those instructions could have been from the writtings Canaan found. The human giants werent as big as the half angel giants so its probably just the cutting of roots and not angel dna mixing. These giants were probably normal humans that had been altered. The dna mixing could explain why whole towns had to be destroyed and God forbid the genetically mixing of beasts and plants.

A lot of people think Nimrod (Gen 10:7-10) may be where the giants came back in. It is strange that Nimrod is listed separately from Cush's other progeny. Also "mighty hunter" may be a clue. The LXX in 10:8 actually says "He was the first on earth to be a giant". In addition, Josephus referencing Nicolaus of Damascus, says some people escaped the flood. “There is a great mountain in Armenia, over Minyas, called Baris, upon which it is reported that many who fled at the time of the Deluge were saved; and that one who was carried in an ark came on shore upon the top of it; and that the remains of the timber were a great while preserved” (Ant 1.3.6 §§ 95). Josephus, a Pharisee, elsewhere, had no problem with the fact that people other than Noah and his family survived the flood “which was the reason why there was no greater number preserved, since there was no place to fly to” (Ant 1.3.5 §§ 89). Pseudo-Eupolemus (prior to 1st century BC) goes even further: “Eupolemus, in his work ‘On the Jews,’ states that the Assyrian city of Babylon was first founded by those who escaped the Flood. They were giants, and they built the tower well known in history. When the tower was destroyed by God’s power, these giants were scattered over the whole earth” (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.2-3. He names a giant who escaped the flood as Belos (Praeparatio Evangelica 9.17.8-9; 9.18.2. Also 1Enoch has most of the giants being killed in internecine war prior to the flood. The giants also appear in Bashan with Og Num 21:33; 32:33 and Deut 1:4 which makes sense because Bashan is near Mt. Hermon where the Watchers descended (1En 6:6).

In terms of comparative mythology, I don't know if I agree with the idea in that the rephaim were the same as the apkallu. The apkullu were more like 'sages', almost human. There were seven of them and in sumerian folklore, they emerged from the 'sacred well' of fresh water, rather than an empty abyss. There's even one myth that the 'seven sages' were the seven families that survived the flood, and were able to redistribute their knowledge of the old world. They are analagous to the septarishi (seven sages) of hinduism. I'd say the rephaim are more like the greek titans, and their children are the olympians who overthrew them and locked them in tartarus. There were 12 titans, and 12 olympians. Since most myths originate in the stars (and many of the olympians are literally named after the planets), it's fair to assume that they represented the 12 signs of the zodiac. In contrast, the septarishis, and hence the apkallu, were associated with the seven stars of ursa major, which rotated around the pole star (axis mundi) in a 'surya' sun-cross shape each year.

Every other preacher/teacher says something at least partially different. if not completely different. Yet, they can make each explanation seem correct. So, over the decades, I don't really know which is what or how, etc. (An example in kind: I heard a preacher tell the congregation that he knows for a FACT why there continued to be Giants after the flood. According to him, not ALL the Giants drowned in the flood, because some climbed onto the TOP of the Ark , enabling them to survive the flood.)

I usually do not differ with Dr. Heiser about most of his teachings, but there are distinct scriptural references that ties fallen angels to demons. God refers to Satan as the "Devil" and a term that is used interchangeably with "Demon" which means "Fallen One" or "Adversary". The idea that demons are somehow separate entities, derives from the belief that they are the disembodied souls of the Nephilim. A falsehood, as only God has the power to create souls. So, demons and fallen angels are essentially one and the same.
Dr. Heiser was credentialed and experienced but not infallible, his Nephilology wasn’t biblical, and he tended to create more problems than he solved-see these articles for examples:

Like many Christians, I grew up thinking that demons are one-third of angels who rebelled with Lucifer and were cast out of Heaven. (One-third of the angels remained loyal to God, and the other one-third were the angels who voluntarily left Heaven to mate with human females.) In reality, there's little biblical evidence for this idea. Heiser's theory that demons are actually the disembodied spirits of Nephilim/giants makes much more sense. Knowing that this idea is rooted in Second Temple Jewish thinking adds to its credibility. There's just one thing I have a question about: if demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, why did their souls not be sent to Gehenna/Sheol along with other wicked souls? Is it because only pure human souls can be sent to Hell, which means that unclean spirits, being a mixture of humans and angels, are cursed to roam the Earth?

Interesting possibility, and seems that they held some of these ideas back then. If one has encountered demonic phenomena, and studied such, it does leave one with the conundrum of where these corrupt spirit beings, that oppress in various ways, and pursue their lusts through us, if they can find entry, came from. One issue though with this view with some support from Bible passages, is that mankind seems to be small in number in primitive (stone age, bronze age) times, so there could not be many of these things, begot by some kind of illicit mix, whereas it would seem there are a lot more of them.
All I know is my mother was possessed by a demon that looked like a frog, from working the Ouija board. I had put a cross around her neck and the demon took it off. It literally took the cross off as she slept. She awoke hearing a windstorm in the house, and felt a "pop" in her breastbone. She said a frog with red eyes was in the corner of the room, and it glared at her. She said she looked at the pillow and the cross was off her neck, with the chain linked together. That doesn't mean that he's wrong, did you expect demons to look like Goliath? There's a lot of references in the Bible that tell us these spirits look like serpents or frogs, some kind of reptilian type.

Couldn't discern any truth in this. Read the transcript. What facts are supported from the biblical text? Not one. Just speculation from traditions and assumptions from conjecture or from silence. We have no idea which spirits aside from the bad sons of God are sent to prison or what that prison is, and which are left active. I also find it hard to believe that God would allow a dead Nephilim to operate freely. Very disappointed.

I looked it up and found no reference to Rephaim in Ezekiel 32 or in Isaiah 14.

The angels in the Salt Sea city judgement account, in Genesis 19, when they go down to the cities,do interestingly there, have real physical bodies, although one would not expect those bodies to be functional as regards offspring generation in our human fashion. (Speculatively maybe "fallen angels" could clone human bodies, then use them, then their coarse natures would cause epigenetic changes feasibly, such that the DNA would itself be messed up in characteristics as a result, as well as the spirits who had somehow got into such cloned bodies, as kind of flesh suits. They might also be able to mix in other DNA to make a more ferocious and strong body, we can ourselves tamper with e.g. plant genetic code. ??)

Galatians 1:8. “But even if we or an ANGEL FROM HEAVEN preach any other gospel to you, let him be accursed”. Angel from where? Heaven. They still have free choice.

That implies that God failed, He must have missed the "same thing happened again after the flood" loophole so that the flood was much of a waste.
As for, "who is to say it doesn’t happen now?" Jude and 2 Peter 2 who note that the sinful Angels were incarcerated and there's only a one-time fall of Angels in the Bible.

First, the church translators used the word Hell for two different locations or realms. The fiery pit that Satan and his follows are cast is the Hell. The big one. No one has been sent to this one yet. There has been no judgment day yet. Satan and his followers are still free and not bound. All people, after they die, their spirits go to either of two separate realms. I call them spirit prison or spirit paradise. Depending on their acts on earth while alive. Here they are still aware, still conscious. Christ went and taught to theses spirits which is found in the Bible after he was crucified. After the judgment everyone will be resurrected from both. And receive their inheritance. The only spirits that go to the actual “big” Hell are satan and his followers and if any, someone who committed the unpardonable sin. But to do this this you have to have a complete knowledge of god, walked and talked with him, faith not required because he is known and then deny him. Only a small few on earth have been in the position to commit this sin, the same sin Satan and his followers committed.
While these spirits await judgment day and the resurrection, they can still learn and except gospel covenants. This is where spirits who were born on earth in times before or were not given the opportunity to learn of the gospel, or of Jesus. They can except him here. Some people mistake the phrases “we are saved by Grace only”or “we are saved by faith”and “faith with or without works” are about entering heaven. I share my belief that solves the controversy. Everyone will be resurrected who received a body on earth. This is the reward for keeping their first estate, following Jesus instead of Satan. The followers of Satan lost their first estate, they did not receive bodies, they cannot be resurrected. The reward and inheritance for obedience is covered by Grace. All will return. Being saved by acts should be understood as “reward by faith and acts”. This is what judgment day is for, even though everyone is saved by Grace, there are additional rewards given to those who were obedient, so being “ saved” at this juncture is about the additional rewards.
