We just got a CPO '17 Lexus LS460L w/48k miles for almost 1/2 price from new with a 4 year unlimited mileage warranty. I was looking for comfort, I didn't want to feel any bumps or hear anything - mission accomplished! But the thing, being only 2 years old is a time capsule. NA V8, no start/stop, no 360 camera, no HUD, no digital clocks, only 1 analog clock and the Lexus Remote Touch system is pretty terrible - hard to believe sticker is a shade under $100k. But, in order for us to afford a reliable used luxo-barge, this was likely our only option. The A8 looks great, but hard to buy a used one or a new one and take a $50k shot up the ass from depreciation!! :)
I bought a CPO 2020 A8L late last year, but unlike the one in this review, mine has the 4.0TT V8 that was developed by Porsche. I absolutely adore the classy, understated styling, the room, the comfort, the ambient lighting at night with which you can choose from a whole palette of colors, the massaging seats (I am 6'7"), and the rear wheel steering. It's incredibly nimble for such a long car. Mine also has the upgraded lighting package which turns night into day. With the V8, this beast goes from 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds, and that's nuts for a 4700 lb, 208" long cruiser. I love this guy's reviews, and I'd love to hear his impression of this same car with 453hp and 487lb-ft of torque!
@ Well, let’s just say I’m glad it’s CPO! The alternator went (just a few days after I got the letter saying they would replace the alternator at no cost), and there had been a couple electrical issues prior to that, but they believe it was all related. The fuel door mechanism seized up, and the emergency release handle inside the trunk came off in my hand. Thankfully I wasn’t on a road trip, and my dealership is only 8 miles away! The latest that the wiper fluid leaks out in the front passenger wheel well, so it’s going in soon for that. My CPO has 7 more months, and I’m going to look into an extended warranty soon. I love the car, but reliability hasn’t been great so far. I’m very glad to have a new alternator, because I knew that was a known problem.
These are truly insane cars. Never something I would own, as I prefer enthusiast cars to luxury. I had the opportunity to explore and drive a W12 A8L at the dealership I used to work at. You have to commend the attention to detail, and commitment to producing the best product possible for import individuals.
Nothing wrong with Genesis. A fully loaded G90 is $10K less than the price this thing starts at with no options. Sure this is a nicer car, but the Genesis is significantly less costly, more reliable, has a better standard warranty, quicker with the base 3.3T engine, and includes home pickup/dropoff service standard for car maintenance. If you have money to burn, by all means, get the Audi. Otherwise, the Genesis is a better buy without a doubt. Both of them will plummet in value the second you drive them off the lot. When Genesis updates the G90 with the new platform the upcoming redesigned G80 will be riding on, it will be even better. Supposedly there are new, significantly more powerful TT V-6s in development as well. Stop being an ignorant badge snob. Last year Genesis nearly outsold Audi in the US, so it's only a matter of time before Genesis surpasses Audi in sales.
Nice boat. Definitely not for me, though... not that I could afford one :D but even then, it's probably the type of car you want to be a passenger in, rather than drive yourself.
I have just the opposite reaction. I'm a sucker for big, cushy, old-man cars. I miss my 2001 E38 (pre Bangle) BMW 7 series. What an effortless cruiser.
Eyyy! Yeah I have to agree, not for me. Would be great for a long boring drive though like a business or road trip. I'd want to swap to a fun car for good segments of road though.
I totally agree with the heat in these newer cars. I had the opportunity to drive the facelift S63 with the 4.0 biturbo hot v V8. I took it in the hills near me and by the time I got to the top the fans were full blast even while moving. They stayed running hard for around 5-10 mins after driving. Temperature gauges read normal but it seemed like it was working really hard. Car was amazing in every other way.
I think it's because old cars have one mechanical waterpump and one cooling system with a thermostat. Newer ones such as this have several electric pumps and shutoff valves. There is no need to run the whole engine at 90celcius, it is more efficient when they can handle 130celcius but still keep the important parts cool enough. The coolant no longer flows from head to block via waterways either - they have their own coolant flows.

I've had a 2019 Audi A8L for about 2 years. IMO, what he got right in his review: very comfortable, very quiet, reduces stress. A few things I think he missed / got wrong: the all wheel steering is fantastic -- for such a big car, it really helps to be able to make turns in parking lots. When I put it in Dynamic mode and stomp on the gas it puts a huge smile on my face. It's not Tesla Plaid fast, but it's definitely plenty fast for its target market (guys like me in their mid 50s looking for something comfortable). For comparison, it's got nearly 2x the horsepower as my 1989 911 Porsche, and about the same as my 1969 Corvette. I bought the car for one reason -- to drive to my office 6 hours away, four times per year. The trip is all highway, without lights and not a single toll. I average 30.5 miles per hour. You read that right. The car automatically runs on 4 cylinders instead of 8 cylinders the entire way up! The review implied the trunk space was adequate, it is not - it is way too small, and the amount of storage inside the care is abysmal. Perhaps one day I'll be able to take advantage of all the leg room in the back seat. Servicing the car is exceedingly expensive (from the dealer, $118 for wiper blades; $2900 for new front brakes), and I do worry about when it's out of warranty. Had I not had a reason to drive it for work, and been able to take it as a business expensive, I probably would have had a hard time justifying the expense. (Buying it used, CPO, I felt like it was worth it.) It's my first ever Audi... and perhaps my last. I plan to keep it a long time.
I think it's pretty cool that Mark hasn't dropped Turbowski down a well or something. The man is a dead weight in these otherwise excellent videos. We're seeing real compassion at work here.
In Scott’s defense, Mark never asks him his thoughts about anything but rather waxes on with his own knowledge. Scott is a prop. Still like the reviews.
@@spikemark1731 Scott was supposed to be a technical expert, not a prop, but he didn't do that. He just stood there like a prop. That's why Jack Singapore is here and doing a pretty good job of it, IMO.
I wish your test car had the rear wheel steering and sport differential.....it makes such a big difference on this vehicle in terms of agility and nimbleness even when driving normal. I was extremely impressed with it
Your 'final thoughts' conclusion on the A8 mimicked exactly how I felt about a 2013 Lexus LS460 F Sport I drove last year. Very serene, a little engine burble from the V8, but the seats, transmission, stereo, suspension all conspired to make a really great peaceful driving environment. I don't know how much the A8 is, but the LS460 was in the upper 30's, and unlike any Audi, I know I'd be ok out of warranty with a Lexus. No way I'd ever own an A8 out of warranty unless I banked on 4k/yr in repair work.

I have a '21 Audi A8L 60 TFSI (V8). It is incredibly advanced, with tremendous V8 power. 0-60 in 4.4. Any flagship reviewed should be V8. I bought Audi's 10YR B2B warranty. No worries for a decade, which by then, I imagine most all Audi's will be purely electric. This is a very luxurious car and should easily be considered alongside the 7/S. @@SharkBoy87 That's too bad. My friend, A8/S8 must be the most underrated sedan out there. Just finished to watch a German video where S8 was 2-3 second faster on slaloms than a m760i and Flying spur speed. I would like the noise insulation used on the A8 to become norm in lower end cars though, even though my super-budget Elantra already does a pretty good job at it (for peasants).
audi is very underated. now u know audi is just next level n ahead of the game. others criticizes but slowly copying audi. 2 ipad screen with no lag , clear resolution, thats whats up.
Overrated* Samsung screens btw
2019 Audi A8L is my absolute favorite car in the world
It's called understated elegance.
The bits at the end crack me up. Great review as always
Most underrated car channel on YT?
missed turbowski!! hope 2 see him more often
HE IS BACK!
The quality of this video is crazy.
Top notch as usual. Thank you for the content.
Have to admit, love the music used on your videos. Keep up the good work.
Another great review Savage. Takeaways: 1) Haptic is switchable. 2) Come back & test the S8 when it becomes available. 👍
Greetings and thank you very delivering an excellent review. It would be very nice if later on you can review Genesis G90 Ultimate sedan. Thanks!
As soon as you start shooting your videos in Dolby Vision/HDR you're gonna end up on Netflix and you'll be in my recommended shows👍🏻👍🏻 good luck!
Any reliability issue so far?
Love the how the theme of the music carries over with each video. lots of violin.
How would you compare the ride, nvh and build quality of the a8 with the lexus ls?
Waiting for a reply.. don't mind me.
I'd like to know how it compares to a 1970 Citroen DS 19/21.
@japanwatchconnection Maybe you need a Reliant Robin.
I can guaranteed you that my 2019 ES is better then this car
@ottobaby0815 That's What she said.
These are truly insane cars. Never something I would own, as I prefer enthusiast cars to luxury. I had the opportunity to explore and drive a W12 A8L at the dealership I used to work at. You have to commend the attention to detail, and commitment to producing the best product possible for import individuals.
What makes you think luxury cars aren’t enthusiast cars ?
Dont worry, Hyundai will copy it in another 2 years and call it "Genesis"
@k. 743 Dont forget they will do it cheaper and warranty it for 10/100.
They do not attach Toyota emblems to bmw z4 cars.
They do not attach the Toyota 86 emblem to Subaru cars.
Disgusted Toyota supporter Japanese.
@@mattspeer01 So, I take it that you are a Genesis owner?
@@harper7489 What Toyota did was not right man. Supra is a cult-status car. Now it just another BMW
My friend just got this huge boat and it's amazing!
Even listening to you being impressed with it felt very relaxing :)
@@alliejr Oh, I love the concept of such cars, but I don't think I'd really like owning one. :)
good to have a friend drive u
First time I got out of my A8 (2023)after driving it home, I was SHOCKED by how hot it was lol
Literally driving in Crystal Lake! That's awesome.
Best video ever dudes your making an excellent job so far keep up forever guys and bring Turbowski on all of your videos please the guy just suits you and complete the whole picture with some Humor also...your the best guys by far I love you all.P.S Stay healthy through this whole situation with the corona virus take care of youselfs
Do you recommend owning this car for the long term say 10ish years? How has reliability been for you? Deciding between this and a 2023 Genesis g90.
@@Fasty2107 Don't trust Genesis
I think it's pretty cool that Mark hasn't dropped Turbowski down a well or something. The man is a dead weight in these otherwise excellent videos. We're seeing real compassion at work here.
Oh please, Turbowski is pure charisma, something this channel needs.
@@weedmastersr He's got all the charisma of a head of cabbage, but I guess you're being sarcastic.

Savage geese by far the best in the review business.
I wish your test car had the rear wheel steering and sport differential.....it makes such a big difference on this vehicle in terms of agility and nimbleness even when driving normal. I was extremely impressed with it

OMG Scott is back !!!!!
We love the GEESE.. a pro all the way ! keep em coming by far my favorite youtuber!
Peasant blockers?..haha..thats savage😂
When it comes to this price class, it's really much about personal preferences than anything else. Lexus, Genesis, Audi, Benz, they're all good.
Happy to see Scott.
I'm just here to like and subscribe and show my support for one of the best RUclipsr video car reviewers
you missed the point of all-wheel-steering: it allows the car to have the same turning radius as an A3. Makes parking alot easier.
Beautiful car but another German Lease car.
you are 100% correct but any vehicle in this price range is a lease car
You would only ever lease cars like this. If you can't write it off on tax, the depreciation makes it not worth owning....
@@thejohnson9204 very true most people who "have" this type of vehicle do it on a tax write off. just like when you see the business owner with a lifted F250 that probably cost $80k
@@thomasnew8606 Exactly correct Thomas. Buying the tricked out F250 would not suit my client base, but yes, people can build cars they love and use it as a tax deduction. Nothing wrong with using the system, because politicians do, and take pleasure in fucking us all.....
Most Tesla's are leased as well
How would you compare this to the Genesis G90 in terms of ride quality and isolation?
I think the four wheel steering is probably intended for a better turning radius.. being that it's a long wheel base vehicle
Love your videos... I would love to see a review of S8 or previous generation A8L sport 4.0T, which I currently drive
Good to see Turbowski back from furlough!
Prison, actually. Don't ask.
I had a strong feeling Scott will be in on this one. It's a German car that has more than 4 cylinders
To me, it's a mixture of them both.
Any major issue so far on your A8 V8?
@@karlk.6819 That was years ago, and foolishly sold it. It was my favorite Sedan, I had just hopped over to Porsche thinking the Panamera would be more fun. It was not.
@@SharkBoy87 That's too bad.
My friend, A8/S8 must be the most underrated sedan out there.
Just finished to watch a German video where S8 was 2-3 second faster on slaloms than a m760i and Flying spur speed.
Surprising, considering the bentley has a better weight distribution (Panamera platform) and 635hp vs 570hp.
Honestly moving to US I'd one of these 2018-2020 A8/S8 even though I wish the short wheelbase was available (it is in europe). It looks better to me.
I'll consider it if I find a good one.
Very nice review, you should review a Model 3 right after this as when you were describing the A8, a lot of of the ideas sound like what they tried to do in the Model 3.
Does this car leave the factory with the "check engine" light on?
In 25 years, you'll go to open that vent and it'll activate the flame thrower instead. Nice to see all this development in the infotainment. Wish Lexus would step up their game. I just want to know how all the electronic shit will hold up in like 20 years... I like the idea of the scent thing, but I'd want it to spray me down with Monster Energy drink... Good to see Scott finally, glad he is still kickin'!
I’ll take mine, with a side of Grey Poupon. 👌
I didn't get to the 60 second mark without thinking of Grey Poupon.
Your mechanic never seems to ever be blown away by the cars you bring in to show him. Has there ever been a car he just gushed over ? What does he drive personally ?
And that ladies and gentlemen’s what an Audi person sound like
The start stop function will wear the engine like crazy.
