  • After years of thinking about it, we went back to our roots and bought a travelin' rig! A 23-foot 1982 Chevy Van RV by Citation, only this time with a few more amenities than out original VW Westfalia! Join us as we rescue, repair and take an inaugural trip to bear country, where the First Nations people have asked for Shannon's help and I go along as mechanical - and moral - support. Northern Saskatchewan is still FULL of wildlife, adventure and beauty - as well as BEARS - both dead and alive.

    Brother this is so very inspiring. I aspire to do the same thing you've exemplified in this here video. Thanks for not cutting it down into a short set of clips, better than a movie this is! I have a beautiful daughter and desire to show her more than 4 walls each day, i want to show her this beautiful world! Love how in depth you went with repairs, qol improvements, as well as your wit and knowledge! Blessings to you and your wife. Thankyou again for documenting your experience and travels. Hope to see more in the future!

    Yes you really did find a gem..! It's amazing that you are able to just get in and drive it anywhere 🙂. I have a nineteen seventy-seven Dodge Mallard class C and I had to go through the entire vehicle front to back mechanically replacing all kinds of things to be sure that there were roadworthy. Plus we had leaks and it took a long time to overcome the leaks and we did extensive improvements on the inside and installed tremendous solar system that would allow us to be off grid. As we would boondock and very remote places. You really are blast if you were able to enjoy your class C pretty much out of the box has they say. And I would believe that the 44,000 is the original many of these RVs have low miles mine had 81000 miles on it when we bought it.

      Thanks, we looked at many before finding this one in a small town, maybe why no one else grabbed it. I thought for sure we'd have the same issues you found in yours. Sounds like you got them sorted? Looking forward to some "boon-docking" - maybe not as remote as you though! Thanks for watching - PART 2 up next week!

    You really lucked out on this beauty .
    When you were filling the master cylinder with brake fluid you thought the back one that was low was for the back brakes but it’s opposite, the back reservoir is for the front brakes and the front reservoir is for the rear so you might have a leak in the front brake.
    Someone really took care of her for sure . Thanks for south Alabama in USA

    That’s a nice little rig. I would just make sure to change the oil, and run only sae 10-30 always. That year GM V8 has the soft camshaft that failed around 60-70k miles. People used 10-40 and the top end didn’t get lubed properly. Causing the cam and lifers to round off. TRW actually made a kit to replace everything so many went bad. It’s called an engine module III. Timing chain, gears, lifers, and gaskets.

      @@DannebergAcres You’re welcome. I noticed toward the end of the video you added a quart of 10-30. And that’s the ticket! I love your new rig. And the price was fair as well. I hope you have many miles of smooth, safe and enjoyable travel.

    I was given a Travco by my uncle who ordered it new. I've done some improvements (Alcoa wheels, LED lights, LeCarra steering wheel (original, French-made vintage), et cetera. Will be doing a 6BT & Allison transmission swap (the Dana 70 is 4.56 geared). I love seeing the older units in good shape

    Love older rigs. Might wanna check gas line hoses if you have ethanol gas where you are. Ethanol will eat older gas line hoses because they weren’t made for it.

    Don't know if you found the issue with the wiper arm. It has a small sliding lock near the base that often locks out when lifting the arm. Also, if that lock is okay, you can bend the metal arms easily to get them back in position... Also, with that few km's the front wheel bearings may have old dry grease - could save you some pain on the road. Rear end gear oil same issue - changing that will save those rear axle bearings and seals :)!

      @DannebergAcres  Год назад

      Thanks for the input - I'll definitely change the diff oil and will look at those bearings!

    Ok I'm in USA I follow other RV videos. One was throwing dish washer pods (cascade) in the toilet She said she learn from some one else to Eliminate/cut down the smells. Don't know what it would do to your tanks. She doesn't seam to have any issues with it yet. Just thought I'd say something. So maybe check into it.

    RV's🚍 You Need To Sand Down The Roof & Use Marine Sealing Paint & Dry & Do Again. At Least 2 Coats. 3 Coats The Best. Otherwise You Will Have Leaks In Your RV🚍. New Or Old RV's🚍Known To Mold In Walls & Floors & Ceilings. RV's🚍Have No Redeeming Insulation For Cold Or Hot Weather!
