Tbf, I didn't even know that job had a name (or at least what it was called) until I saw this video, so if someone like me was there, then they would've been there for a very long time.

Dave might not have won, but I found it impressive how Dave was the only contestant who got to the right answer without first asking the question "are you a doctor?" and then narrowing it down through types of doctors from there.
It wasn’t impressive, he just lucked his way into narrowing it down massively very quickly because it began with A. If the guy had been an X-Ray Technician he’d have been screwed.

@@oddforest Not really, presumably he would have gone down all the letters and X-ray technician is one of the few jobs that actually starts with an X.
A strat would have been "I'm gonna say letters, you tell me if they are the first letter of your job" and go quickly through the whole alphabet. Repeat for second, third etc. Can guarantee 2 letters a minute.

@@musiciseverything120 Not necessarily; I saw Richard Osman try that strategy for a guy who could only answer in Swedish. Unfortunately for Richard, he then realized that the letters he was given formed a word that was also in Swedish, so he couldn't figure out the guy's profession that way. 🙂
Dr Hugh completely cracking up laughing at 2:26 to Paul's reaction is pure gold.
It probably took him 21 minutes to get to that point.

I mean even if he nodded, that's not a great look for him out of context.
My grandmother was a nurse, and the doctors would try and ask her out a lot. For whatever reason, she never wanted to be involved with anyone in the medical profession, so she’s say “No thanks, but if you have a brother, I’d go out with him!”. This was all told to me by my mother, who swears that my grandmother truly meant it in earnest- she actually would like to have gone out with their non-doctor brothers, but this is also just a comedy gold answer. No way they’d bother her after that!
I think we all need to give props to the Dr. for being able to do the opposite of what he would instinctively do.,

I got super confused by him saying "8 seconds and 2 minutes"... I was sat here thinking "he definitely took longer than 8 seconds"
1:33 That was some lightning-fast work to throw Alex’ face back onto the big screen immediately.
I mean, it probably took a bit longer than how it is shown in the episode, but honestly I trust the team at Taskmaster to get that done in under a minute

Once woke up from a surgery and asked the nurses for a lemonade ice cream, they laughed, grabbed one knowingly from the staff freezer and a sick bucket. Apparently their newbie anaesthetist had been making people wake up wanting lemonade ice cream the entire day. I threw up after the first bite, apparently the same as the last 6 people

Was Rob technically cheating when he asked Alex's dad to mime his job? When the task specifically says that "the gentleman can only nod or shake his head."
Wouldn't say so, the contestants were allowed to ask Fred the Swede to act out his job when the task said he can only speak in Swedish. But then again "the gentleman can only nod or shake his head" is a bit more direct
The man should have acted out something other than his proper job in order to keep up the rule to only lie. 😉
he could only ANSWER with nod or shaking his head. Nothing was stated about other things. This entire show is trying to find the loophoole, as they have done many times before.
Tbf, he asked a yes or no question for that, the gentleman broke his rule of acting out his occupation. "Could you act out your occupation?" *Nods head* is as far as that interaction should've gone.
No, Alex' dad was cheating and should take off his shoe for that. Rob was just smart in getting someone else to break the rules.
They would've been entirely in their rights to torture dad into spilling the beans. Of course, they do have to whisper. Preferably sexily.
Al Murray is not only genuinely fantastic in his delivery and structure but he's ridiculously clever and will forever be one of my favourite comedians of all time.

If the guy can only answer yes/no questions, the 'can only lie' restriction becomes rather trivial.

There doesn’t even need to be a lie for the task to confuse the contestants; they can do it to themselves. Lest we forget “Would you wear the shoe to a funeral?”.

After asking for the first letter, I'm surprised he didn't asked for the rest of the letters.
They definitely could have brute forced it by asking the number of letters then asking for each letter. They of course doesn't need all letters as even three letters would make the job easy to guess.
That would take potentially far more questions and time than you might think.

It’s a loop. If he only tells lies, then he’s not allowed to confirm he only tells lies because that would be a truth. But if he says he doesn’t tell only lies, that would be a lie, and it just circles back to the first issue.

Anestesiologist for us. Last time I went to the hospital he was INSANELY professionsal. The whole team came by prior to the surgury on my leg, the Anestesiologist stayed behind and spoke with me about my medical history. The next morning before I went into surgury all of the medical team came into my aurgury prep room and spoke with me. the surgeon signed my leg after asking the same questions as everyone else. What is your name, your birthday, who is the president(other making sure your present questions) and then asked me to describe the surgury I was Having. The Anestesiologist did the same thing but stuck around for a while and told me he took my file home and did research on my super rare genetic disorder and wanted me to know he informed his team on the complications that may arrise due to this so he was prepared and prepared "his team" for anything to make sure I stay alive, which was super cool. I do know several of the surgury techs who saw my name and tried to visit before I went under but were unable to get a gap in surgury to see me, which was alright I saw them afterwords.

According to Google, anesthetist and anesthesiologist are different jobs. One administers the anesthesia, and the other assists with the administering. I have zero clue what is entailed.

Ah rip, I was gonna say "What is not your occupation" since he can only lie, he would have to give me the answer.
But sadly, only shaking and nodding makes that way harder.

I was going nuts over how everyone was saying anesthesiologist wrong until I looked up that anesthetist is, in fact, another word for the same thing. Weirdly in this case the longer word with more syllables feels easier to remember, spell, and pronounce than the shorter one. 🤨

If he is lying, he can just say "yes, this answer is truthful"
@@dLzzzgaming The reason it doesn't work is because the outcome of his answer presupposes the answer he gives. The answer he gives is dependent on an answer he can't give.
I learned from this video that the British refer to his job as an anesthetist, whilst in the states, his job is referred to as an anesthesiologist, and a nurse anesthetist is a nurse that would cooperate with an anesthesiologist. I was moderately confused as in the states, the doctor himself is an anesthesiologist, and the man makes a clear point to specify that he is in fact a doctor, not a nurse.
There’s a clip I saw of No More Jockeys in which Alex refers to his dad as “Dr. Hugh Horne”- we got your number, Little Alex Horne!

Kind of frustrating to see them throw a hundred doctors at the poor man instead of asking for rough categories.
"Did you specialise in a bodypart? A type of person? A procedure?" and then go from there.
I like the fact that the stipulation that he can only lie is actually completely pointless, given he can also answer only yes or know.
EDIT: Nine months later, I realise I typed 'know' instead of 'no'. I'm gonna leave it, though, as a testament to my stupidity.

Surprised he didn't follow up with "second letter...a,b,c,d,e..."
With a guess per second, you'd expect to get 4-5 letters in the first minute (you'd get "anest') so I suspect you'd spell out the full word in 2nd place.
