Considering Crowley's aversion to anything to do with Heaven (other than Aziraphale, of course), I doubt that he'd choose to wear anything that would be connected to the angel he was before. I think the colour he chose - a sort of generic looking light beige to my eye - is simply camouflage. He doesn't want to stand out too much, lest he be noticed and chucked out (or worse), before he can figure out what's going on.

    • @sheebeebug
      @sheebeebug Год назад +37

I agree with this, but I think the outfit is leaning more towards the beige side which makes me think he’s taking inspiration from Aziraphale (which is cute if he did), but very much taking all the creative liberties he can.

    • @stardustorchard9316
      @stardustorchard9316 Год назад +39

I think it's that AND mockery. That amount of crazy gold and bling isn't present on any other angel. At best Aziraphale has a ring and one other angel had markings on their face. The gold tooth, nail, big sparkly center piece is performative camouflage at best- a joke at worst. He's simply in camo for our escorting angel, because if anyone who mattered saw him, that would do no good to disguise his identity.

@@stardustorchard9316 all the bling in the costume suggest silvery-champagne satin silk for his jacket; doing very well for bridal gowns if you are off the usual white.

Can we just give props to David Tennant for wearing those snake contacts all the time?! Fun fact, they're in his prescription too. I believe that tidbit of information was share during an interview. Also, Crowley is my sunglasses bbf. I personally have to wear prescription sunglasses all the time due to a condition that makes my eyes light sensitive. I would also like to point out that snake eyes are naturally light sensitive as well. So that could be another reason why he adopted them. Oh, and just a quick refresher too, Crowley as an angel had David Tennant's brown eyes. I wonder if they'll ever explain why certain demon's eyes change. Since Beelzebub's, Shax and Furfur are normal but Crowley, Hastur and Ligur aren't. Food for thought.

I heard he can't see very well out of those contacts. If that's true, adding the glasses would be an added challenge. I've also heard speculation as to this being a reason why Michael Sheen is always reaching out to touch him (to keep him from bumping into things); although this could just as easily be part of their physical relationship. Both are equally plausible. Props to David for sticking with the discomfort of the contacts with the glasses.

    For Crowleys angel rank
I DEFINITELY THINK HES A ARCH ANGEL even more specifically he was the supreme archangel at one point
the camera immediately cutting to him after Gabriel says ‘I’m the only arch angel in the universe.’
Him saying he worked very close with upstairs
Him immediately recognizing the metatron when all the other angels and demons had no idea who he was
During Gabriel’s trial after he disagrees with the second coming they mention ‘they don’t want this happening again’ they could be referring to Aziraphale or they could be referring to Crowley asking his silly little questions
Finally and one of the biggest things I’ve been screaming over
‘I think I understand a whole lot better than you do.’
When he says this I think he’s telling az
‘Angel I’ve been in your position! I tried to change things and look where that got me. Million light year freestyle dive into a pool of boiling sulfur. I’ve been exactly where they’re putting you and you won’t be able to do anything’

For the color of Crowley's angel tracksuit, I'm gong to go with mushroom. And here's why. Mushrooms grow in the dark, they're associated with decay and death (Hell) but really just part of the circle of life (Ouroboros). In fact, healthy soil has a type of fungus, mycorrhizae, which is technically not a mushroom, but in the same symbolic category.

So in a Facebook group there was a picture of the eccles cakes next to the horse statue that crowley sets his glasses on and i said it was cute he had picked a personal glasses holder in Aziraphale's bookshop. Someone named Kristy Farmfield pointed out the horse statue is Alexander taming Bucephelous, which made me really mad because I know the story I just didn't recognize the statue. Alexander the great taming Bucephalus, who was scared of his own shadow, so Alexander TURNED HIM TO FACE THE SUN.
Crowley literally gave sunglasses to Bucephalus because he's being made to look at the sun.
Crowley is so clever. It made me sad to think of him wearing his glasses in 1941, especially after the bullet catch.
I also thought Crowley's angel costume with silver at first but now I see how it could be beige as well. I wasn't too interested in the actual color or rank it might portray just that it appeared lighter than the archangels, and we know that white and lighter colors are supposed to be good and pure and yet Crowley is lighter than some angels. And interesting that The Metatron is wearing the darkest color of all the angels. I also never noticed the arm garters or armbands that's really interesting. Another fabulous analysis I can't wait until next week.

    • @Sendarya

That's really well spotted by someone in that FB group, I didn't realize it was Alexander taming Bucephelous either! So, this may be just a cool easter egg, hint of symbolism that Crowley is a protector. Something like that, anyway. Good point about the lighter colors as well!

Crowelys angel outfit is a kind of beige it’s not truly beige it somehow seems to have elements of gray and a kind of champagne colour. It’s one of those colours that no one can ever describe properly and you could ask different people and get very different answers. I didn’t know that Crowley miracles his clothes, but now I’m stuck on the bullet catch scene there was a miracle blocker active and I’m imagining buck naked Crowley on stage 😂

Then pin at his toga in the Roman period was a snake too. The colour of his angel costume is greige. A mix between grey and beige. Depending on the light it seems to be more silvery grey. He went a bit over the top with the bling but stood true to his preferences when you look at the golden tie-thingy versus his silver tie with the tassels. Good thing he can at least miracle his clothes without any funding from hell.

You know, there was that odd reference in Season 2 to Gabriel's clothes being tailored and how appropriate raiments will be provided for his position. Crowley's clothing may, in part, be the clothing for the designers. It's kinda artsy. The glasses were probably added by Crowley to obscure his snake eyes. I'm not sure any angels wear glasses as that would be an imperfection. That may be why the Archangel Michael turned to glance at him. Or it could just be Crowley made something the color scheme of heaven figuring no one important would see beyond that. It does seem to be a kinda re-toned version of the clothing he went up in.

  • @BytheBentley
    @BytheBentley Год назад +43

I would say that the color has a lot more gold undertones than just greige. Almost a white gold color. Also I don't recall seeing gold like that on any regular angels. Uriel, Sandalphon have lots of bling. Crowley could be just getting all flashy (flashy bastard that he is) but seems more relevant to the archangels.

🕶Glasses are back on in 1941 because Crowley is recovering from the St. James Park 1862 "fraternizing"/ "I don't need you" argument. That hurtful spat was a severe setback and they had avoided each other nearly 80 years, until Crowley overcomes his reluctance and saves Aziraphale (yet again!) this time, from the Nazis.
Whatever the color of Crowley's tracksuit (silvery?), it's uniquely 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙮-- a silk or satin. Not even Gabriel wears silk/satin threads.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too, Sendarya!
My opinion of the color of Crowley's invading heaven costume: to me, it appears to be a satin version of that taupe color that matches Aziraphale's outer coat. Taupe is one of those weird colors. It's not truly gray, not really tan, just kinda... Blah brown.
I'm so glad you mentioned the belt, but did anyone else notice that the everyday dark gray "tie" he wears looks like a knotted snakeskin?! David also mentioned in a S1 extra that he wears snakeskin boots, too. His everyday wear also includes a vest and outer coat, just like someone else he admires. 😍 Y'know, it's been said that when a couple falls in sync with each other, they often end up dressing alike, intentionally or not. Modern day Crowley really shouldn't want to dress so formally all than time if he truly is trying to dress for "the times," yet he unintentionally does to mimic his very best friend.
I can't wait till see what everyone else has noticed, too! Sendarya, you are amazing, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the work you put into these videos. You'll help keep us from losing our minds as we wait for S3! 🫂❤️

Good Omens got filmed earlier, but maybe noone understood Crowley's special "little helper" so that this theme got explained in David's next franchise?

  • @BirgitPa
    @BirgitPa Год назад +28

I also agree that the grey (gold in Heaven) necktie is quite important to Crowley, as he wears it constantly during present times of S1+2. And I agree that it looks like a snakeskin. Maybe as a reference to his time as a snake in the garden and that he left it behind.
    In speaking of Crowleys clothes:
I‘m not sure if anyone’s familiar with this or if it’s explained somewhere… But in S1 you can see if Crowley is Crowley or Aziraphale is Crowley (the body switch). Normally Crowley wears his black jacket with a red collar liner. You can see that from the back or sometimes from the side, when Crowley wears the collar turned up. But when it’s Aziraphale the liner is silver-grey. Watch the following scenes of S1/E6:
    - Sunday morning after “Armageddon“ Crowley sees the renewed Bentley and enters the cab.
    - St. James Park, the conversation at the ice cream stand
    - The trail in hell (when Michael fills the bathtub)
    - Park bench (before they swap back and after it’s done the liner is again red)
It’s maybe a coincidence, but I don’t believe so, because every little detail of Good Omens normally is part of the story. And it’s also possible that we see similar scenes in S3.
Dear Sendarya, thank you again for that great topic and analysis! Have a great Thanksgiving with your beloved one’s!

    2. i wondered if the possible angel color coding also relates the morality, (muriel white, archangels cold grey, azfell in warm beige, metatron in dark clothes) though upon further research im not sure given the colors worn by saraqael (white) and sandalphon (beige) and the fact im not sure exactly what their ranks are

The unique color of the suit does this and also makes a statement that he's not quite like all the other "bees" there but not so different as to be identifiable by them. My geek out over-analization may mean absolutely nothing but I had finished a series of books that featured in some parts fallen angels. For a few chapters we focused on a big bad fallen angel villain: Nicodemus… who, as our hero went on to discover; received his power from his tie.
This tie was symbolic - we assumed - for (probably) Judas’s noose…. It not only was given to all fallen angels (in this book series) but it gave them all their power and immortality. And if somehow removed and taken away; they would be destroyed completely.
I’m not sure if this in anyway ties (‘scuse the pun) in with Crowley’s ties but Nicodemus’s ties were actually only one rope but could transform into any kind of tie he wished, given his fashion needs.
You’re so much fun to listen to. And your team must be delighted to work with you as we can hear you are with them❣️

Ourosboros (or OB, played by Ke Huy Quan) is a character in Loki and his name plays into the episode and plot - "So, if your work is based on his work, and his work is based on your work..." My thoughts about Crowley wearing glasses in 1941 around Aziraphale: It's their first meeting (that we know of) since 1862 when they argued about holy water and "fraternizing" with each other. Assuming Crowley was hurt by Aziraphale's lack of trust and naming their relationship like that, he could be insecure about opening up again and trusting Aziraphale. After they do the performance, he wears them outside and with other people present (other than Aziraphale).
P.S. You may have a closer look at his watch during Crowley's talk with Nina and Maggie in the bookshop (maybe some help).

The turtleneck and coat with the zipper... I love the detail that it does confirm they definitely worked together.
But since it seems like Crowley doesn't remember, I do wonder if the choice of style was an unconscious one or something in Heaven registered Crowley's previous status? Because Crowley could have just copied Muriel, and that was their first time meeting Saraqael again. 🤔

Interesting idea about Crowley's murder hornet colors, but the only time we see Crowley pre-Fall, he's wearing angelic white in a similar style to Aziraphale. Assuming all the angels wore the same clothes we see Crowley and Aziraphale wearing during the Great War (the robes), Crowley wouldn't necessarily have an angelic rank color, because he would have long since Fallen before those were established.
ETA: Also, during the Job scene, all the angels are wearing angelic white with varying elaborations of gold collars and mantles.

Talking about outfits. What I find interesting is that, when the Metatron shows up on Earth, he is wearing a dark colored suit. But from what we’ve seen, all the other angels have worn light, pastel looking colors. But the Metatron shows up in a dark green/brown(?) suit, and no one recognizes him. Only Crowley does, to everyone’s surprise I’m sure. This might show how close Crowley has worked with him in the past???

I don’t know if this was mentioned here, and I’m probably a little late, but in any case, he put on glasses during the kiss. This perhaps means that Crowley did not initially hope for reciprocity, but used this step as a kind of punishment. Something like: "Look what you've got to lose, and now I'm leaving because you broke my heart." After all, all the times when they were really together alone, Crowley did not wear glasses. (Almost always, but here I emphasize that they began to trust and specially visit each other only 20 years ago)

Thank you so much for this wonderful and insightful video. I'm hoping to start some sculptures of Azi and Crowley and really appreciate these analyses doing a lot of the legwork for me. I've been a Taroteer since the 1990's so I'm very happy you've included the cards. I noticed much Tarot related symbolism in the series right away. Can't wait til the next one when you delve into the topic more fully. As to Crowley's glasses and how he uses them as a mask, I agree with you. I felt that as the story progressed (especially nearing the end of episode 6) his eyes became more and more human. Clearly, he was in deep turmoil at the end but when he began to declare his feelings to Aziraphale, his eyes were the most human in the entire show. Also, I don't know if it was my imagination but was there a glint of demon eyes in The Metatron when he was asking Muriel what she was doing with the book? As for the color of Crowley's suit in Heaven, I worked at the paint department in a hardware store a few years ago and the "in" color at the time was greige...a combination of grey and beige. There were many, many colors that would qualify to be in the greige range and I would say Crowley's could be at the lighter end of the spectrum. Which would make perfect sense: light and dark, and Azi's color beige with Crowley's charcoal grey/black. Thank you also for all the references. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Having been inspired by this video, I took a second look at another of his S1 accessories, the chain necklace. It first caught my eye during the Ep3 proposal scene in the bandstand when it’s worn outside his shirt with his necktie. He also wears it out when he reports to Hell about the status of the Antichrist. Other times, like when he tries to convince Azi to get into the car, it’s under his shirt. Turns out there’s a disquieting Biblical reference to angels in chains, Jude 1:6 “And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day-“ 🥺 Fortunately, the necklace is gone in S2.

I wondered about the chronological problem with the sunglasses in A Companion to Owls too. Could be an inconsistency of course, but if you wanted an explanation that makes sense within the story world, I think it’s reasonable to assume Crowley wears the sunglasses when it’s important to pass for human, once they become available. In a companion to owls, he’s trying to pass for human with both Job’s family and, perhaps more importantly, with the host of angels at the end. They mustn’t know he’s a demon, or the whole deception to save the children wouldn’t work, and the eyes would be quite the giveaway. At Golgotha, on the other hand, he seems to show up to pay his respects quietly, maybe talk to Aziraphale, but not really interact with the locals. Also, rocking up to the crucifixion in sunglasses might look tad disrespectful to modern viewers, so I think it makes sense as a stylistic decision to leave the sunglasses out here, even if Crowley has worn them before.

In the home interior and fashion industries, colors are identified using a Pantone TPX or TCX system. It’s a way of standardizing textile colors so that you don’t have to rely on photography. You can accurately determine or specify an exact color shade using the textile deck. ( it’s different than the Pantone ink decks a printer has ). Costume designers might also use this system. If so, I wonder if that information could possibly be available, it could be very useful in making a detailed color analysis.

We need more information to determine what the 3 of Pentacles tie means specifically in regard to Crowley, as he is the one wearing it. Knowing what Major Arcana card he represents (the official GO tarot deck must have Crowley as a Major Arcana card), will provide more information about what it communicates. On the same hand, knowing what Major Arcana card Aziraphale represents, in combination with the 3 Swords will give us additional insight. I've tried to find images of the individual cards, or the guidebook, to figure it out but I haven't had any luck yet. The deck isn't available until November 28th.
Are other characters accompanied by tarot references yet to be discovered? Are there other tarot references to Crowley and Aziraphale yet to be discovered? Is Crowley and his 'one big cup' another reference to whatever his card is and the 1 of cups? Aziraphale and his disappearing coins (Aziraphale and pentacles cards)? Aziraphale and his 1 (flaming) sword?
    So many possibilities.

Don't know what Crowley's rank (or rather, former rank) is in Heaven, we only know that it's pretty high up. But I would call that leisure suit color champagne silver, for lack of a better description. It sort of has a hint of gold within it. In animal fur that color is often referred to as champagne or lilac. Hope that helps!

Thank you again Sendarya! Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I was not aware of the significance of the snake biting it's tail symbol - but so cool that fans noticed this. Nothing in this show is by accident, so yes, huge! I know this is off topic a bit - but the glasses and the yellow eyes. I've been wondering about this and I figure there has been a lot of discussion about this somewhere at some time over the year, but I am unaware. If Crowley can take his own form, wouldn't he also then be able to change his eyes? I always thought he was wearing the glasses to hide them so why not just chose a different appearance? So I'm not sure if he is wearing the glasses because he doesn't like the appearance of his eyes, or just feels the need to hide them to blend in with the mortals (because he can't change them). I've been wondering about this for a long time - as an angel he clearly had brown eyes. Way off topic - again - likely discussed by fans a long time ago and that is the reason I can't find a reference to this - my child and I were searching - together. But why does Crowley chose Anthony J. Crowley for his name? Where is the Anthony and the J coming from? I'm likely missing something obvious...

Both excellent questions, neither with satisfactory answers right now. Some people think the J is due his old angel name, but I don't think so. He left that identity behind. Maybe from movies? Maybe to blend in more?
Why he can't change his eyes is never addressed and really just seems to be a writing choice. I'm sorry I don’t have more!

@@Sendarya Thank you! My child and I have been talking about this all day! I just hope we find out these answers at some point in some form. I keep hoping that Mr. Gaiman (we call him 'The Gaiman' in our house) will actually end up writing a sequel novel despite any new season of Good Omens. 🙂

Question, why are you not longer guessing about crowleys angel name? i think you mentioned it in another video but i think i missed the why? what made you change your view on those theories? Im only aking bc I love theorizing about who crowley was before falling

There are a couple of areas of theory I've decided not to tread. I'll explain once season 3 comes out :)

I think it looks a sort of beige grey tbh 😅 as for his angel name, I've seen theories but also I've seen Neil say that it's essentially a deadname and I'm gonna respect that so I no longer care to find out unless it's revealed at some point. Generally agreed though that he must have been a high ranking angel lol I mean, how else would he have worked directly with up stairs to create the whole universe
But as far as personal og fandom associated with the ouroboros, for me it's fma 😂

6:05 Did you just say "repeat"???...
I just watched one of the previous videos when you're talking about magic act in 1941 and how it might mirror what happend in last 15 minutes of S2. And this "repeat" meaning symbol on Crowley's tie, which he wears on the day the magic act is done strongly remind me of what was said in that video that perhaps the bullet catch is performed (repeated) once again....
I know it's just one symbol and it might not even mean anything and the connection I'm making is very.... Impossible...., but I'm crazy :)

    • @Sendarya

An interesting thought! It could indeed be a reference to these repeating themes!
