All of Denmark, Norway and Swedan have these incredibly traditional sounding songs that are played meanwhile Finland is over there JAMMING, LOVE IT.
I'm proud to say that I've taken part several times in guard mount at the palace in Stockholm. I'm a musician in the Swedish Home Guard. That's the colours of what was our home regiment until recently, namely I19 Norrbottens Regemente ☺️
Many Republics end up with dictators. Russia, North Korea, Turkey, China including may African and Asian countries have dictators. Even France under Napoleon was a dictatorship. @@Kamour53 Finland isn't in Scandinavia.
@@That1Eagle They're honorary members
Just a side note, Finland isn't part of Scandinavia, but part of the Nordic countries.
Scandinavia is: Denmark, Sweden and Norway. (some people like to say that Åland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland is part of Scandinavia, they have never been part of Scandinavia, you can dispute Island of course)
Nordic countries consist of: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.
Iceland is indeed part of scandinavia, because the languages are similar, finland is a finno ugric country which shares history with estonia
@@trickster33able In f.ex. Sweden the term "Nordic countries" (Norden) means Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland- with dependencies/autonomous territories mentioned in other comments, it doesen't mean the countries in the north as I know f.ex. french do refer to.
We use the term "Skandinavien" or Scandinavia as a geografical term meaning the three kindoms of Sweden, Danmark and Norway. Some connect this to the mountainridge "Skanderna" or the Scandes.
In other places the term Scandinavian more refers to the cultural connection of the scandinavian languages which includes Finland because in Finland there are two official languages: swedish and finnish, the latter not a scandinavian language. This language group consists of the five countries and dependencies I mentioned earlier as called the Nordic countries above.
I also want to add and stress that in this region there are several other languages recognised as national languages for example languages of the Sami cultural sphere in the northen Norway, Sweden, Finland (and Russia).
@@trickster33able Quite wrong, but read what lenaraa66 wrote, it's quite detailed.

It will take a whole lot of planning because they don’t parade every day. In Denmark it is only when the Queen is in residence but not always. And in Norway it is only a couple of times each season. The mos reliable is the Swedish. But you can find out through their websites. And it is worth it

The Finns are practically on speaking terms with the President Sauli they really don't care if the changing of the Guard looks glamorous or not. Also Sauli is a Captain in the reserve so I doubt he actually even cares on a daily basis. But when they receive a new President or a visiting foreign minister/president/leader, The Honor Guard pulls out the Damascus.
I’ve Seen these Guys, Idc about Uniforms, what I do, is I study the Royal Guard‘s Drills, And Actions, and I compare them to my Country‘s Guard, the Honor Guard (America), and I’ve come to the Conclusion that the Scandinavian Guard Regiments, are better, more Drill, more easy to spot, and less Strict in recruiting and Guarding their Leaders and National Monuments and Others (Ours act like they have a Stick up there Asses). Good Job Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
tbf the US seem to have an extremely low bar for its military drills, and soldiers just seem to march however they want in parades (not like the US even holds parades on a regular basis). Marines and the guards at Arlington definitely have significantly sharper drill, but the rest probably can't even hold their rifles straight when presenting arms.
🇸🇪👍🏻
anyone know the song at @11:50?
it is in band of brothers
Finland is a republic... hence no royal guard
also not part of Scandinavia
your thinking of the nordics
We Finns really suck at military ceremonies and traditions. We have the most boring uniform and by far the most boring drill. As a matter of fact Finland doesn't even hold any notable "changing of the guard" ceremonies. -from a Finnish Army reservist
ps. I'm not disrespecting our military. I think it's just sad that we don't put any effort into proper traditions, ceremonies, drill etc. which uphold the identity and esprit de corps of any military.
But you have a very charming presidential band, in my opinion
Maybe, but if I was a Eastern dictator from a former communist country and I had to choose which of the Nordic countries to fight, Finland would be my last choice.
Uniforms might be boring but if you know any history of Finland you can see that they are Finnish Civil War / Winter War uniforms. So i would say they have some good uniforms, atleast they fit imo.
But yea not much effort with the ceremony or drill, its unfortunate. Same with the Swedes tho that was really lackluster.
Imagine changing the finnish band, the grooviest of them all, to something like the scandinavian bands. Would be a real shame
@@tekha1977 I think the Norwegian defence against the Wehrmacht during WWII is pretty respectable too, though when the Allies had to leave, it was game over. Can't really hold a candle to the Finnish grit during the Winter Wars tho. Kippis brothers!

Correct:)
A few differences. The Danes carry rifles that are locked and loaded with additional ammo in the classic ammunition pouch, with the Regiment dating to 1658, 2 years older than the British Grenadier guards. The Norwegians only date to 1856 but their drill is excellent, went on an exchange with them in the seventies. The Swedes look like they escaped from a third rate performance of a Strauss operetta and their drill is terrible.
I agree with ur comment concerning the swedes. They sound a bit hum pahpah in their marches. Like a third rate adaptation of german military marches. Their actual drill is very un-martial. More like a high achool version of a preceptiom of german old drills.
But the Danish Royal Guards are mostly conscripts who only serve for a few months and then return to civilian life - so giving them loaded weapons........
In contrast the British Guards regiments are front line infantry with an outstanding military history behind them.
Also, the Coldstream Guards are the oldest Guards regiment being formed in 1650 and, therefore, older than the Danish Royal Guards by some 8 years.
@@Wotsitorlabart Valid, to a point. Firstly, in that specific role, high value asset protection, loaded weapons matter and the training is very specific to the role. If talking battalion level tactics, no comparison, I agree. Secondly, we are comparing Royal regiments and since the Brits do not recognize the Coldstreams as senior as such, neither shall I.
@@Wotsitorlabart the young guardsmen undergo psychogical tests and are told directly "You are expected to fire your weapon at the attacker, and kill him! If you have qualms of this, you are removed from the"life guards", and some are, others withdraw of their own free will!
@@Wotsitorlabart The kings guard of Norway (HMKG), consist also of conscripts, that are only in for their service. And they do not play around, if someone misbehave, some a drunk person experienced a few years back, but in that situation did the kings guard show really good self control.
first march?
???
@@Kamour53 What was the name of the first marching song at the beginning of the video is what he's likely asking.
A big difference is Finland and Denmark vs Norway and Sweeden.
In Finland and Denmark the soldiers carry ammunition publicly with fully automated weapons. Most of the time before guard duty is spend on combat training, trench/survival skills, hand to hand combat and training for supporting police. They are all recruits but have important tasks such a being bodyguard for royals, generals, politicians and actively defending special operation areas like Army Intelligence HQ and so on.
Norway and Sweden is not that different.
They use recruits and they do have important guard duties. Sweden Guard will also be seen carry fully automatic weapons on certain duties.
However, more time is spend on drill then Denmark and Finland. That means more time to look good, be fancy and perform ritual duties. This is not a bad thing, it takes a lot of discipline and training.
The main difference comes from the situation in Finland and Denmark.
Denmark has had a high terrorist threat level in the Capital ever since their operations in the middle east. This has lead to the Royal Guard taking on more military roles then before, facing out a lot of rituals. Instead focusing on the high active threat to royals, politicians, army and the capital. In Finland the threat has always been the east and the royal guard is an active military force in the full degree.
Norwegian guardsmen are light infantry first, guards second.
The drill & music company seen in this video also have to finish basic training and function as infantery but not to the same extent as the guard companies.
The guard companies are traditional light infantery and act as such. The main difference being extra drill training and the other training needed to act as a military guardsman in areas with a lot of civilians.
Source; been there, done that
I was light infantry (jaeger) in the North of Norway. One day the HMKG came for a visit, and we were just in awe at their marching discipline. We'd beat them any day in combat tho xD

Yes. There is much more emphasis on marching skill with the Norwegian king’s guard than most places so they really look snappy.
11:20 sounds so much like the Band of brothers soundtrack! is it just me? Am I crazy? I love it, but why would guards march to a tv series soundtrack?
ruclips.net/video/Rb3Rv7-EzAM/видео.html
That’s exactly what it is. As for why they’re playing it that can be summed up in two words namely ” crowd pleasing”. The band playing here is the “ royal swedish army band” and when they perform for a crowd they usually mix traditional swedish army music with pop culture music. Although I think it’s unlikely that they play pop music in settings where they do not expect to have an audience.
@@klasgoran736 Cool, thank! the only time I've ever heard the danish guards play pop music was in october for the 18th birthday of crown prince Christian. Otherwise it's always just traditional marches.
