Depends on the horse and rider. Bits are required for most competitions and some horses need the bit for extra control. If it's used properly, it doesn't hurt.

Ugh really with Ty again! This is getting so old that every season something happens to either him or Amy. Can't the writers think of anything else? And Jack not saying anything about Tim. Because really would it be smart for him to travel let alone fly. And Georgie... tired of the show bring around her. Hopefully the rest of the season gets better.

I don't get it, initially all the characters had different characteristics. Over the seasons they turned Ty into Peter and Tim. Always going off, leaving his loved ones in the lurch. In fact they made him worse because he is going around doing it for nothing without leaving any security for his loved ones. Georgie was interesting at first then they turned her into the same as lou falling head over heels for boys, making her timid at the same time. Ty is basically over compensating by doing something decent to cover up his need to get away. Lou broke her marriage because Peter was not around because of work commitments and now she is doing the same thing and Peter called her on it but backed off.
