The Immigration Office of the Philippines should be with the modern times. People regardless of status, as long as you can afford can travel. We are a little over a day away from 2023, and we should be accommodating to people who are travelling. Filipinos shouldn’t be too strict and too doubtful to fellow Filipinos. We need to trust our Kababayan.

It's inconvenient and quite a hassle to be questioned by immigration officers, but this has a purpose: IOs are tasked to screen possible human trafficking victims. And in the Philippines, the most frequent victims of human trafficking are single Filipino women. These victims' common excuse is they are traveling with family (who are really human traffickers). Many Filipino women are also duped by foreign scammers/boyfriends who book everything, but who intend to turn Filipino women into trafficking victims. The IOs' almost cruel/harsh line of questioning is a necessary evil. Thousands of Filipino women who are potential human trafficking victims have been saved by IOs.

Happened to us when I brought our kasambahay/yaya back to Thailand with us (from PH). She got pulled out, they took away her boarding pass, sent her to the interview room (so many people waiting there). We spared 3 hrs before flight time and this happened and we almost missed our flight! My baby was also crying so hard that yaya was missing and was in the interview room. They gave the reason that it was her "First time travelling aboard" and suspected for employment there :( duhh.. after a long wait I have to show the immi staff our photos together and everything. They also made me sign a document confirming that I will be sponsoring her financially during the trip and that I will bring her back to the Philippines. It was so damn annoying and I didn't expect this will happen at all. I mean.. why would you stop your people from travelling out of the country??? as long as they can afford it and have proper documents. It should be the responsibility of the destination country whether to let them in the country or send them back.

We didn't prepare any documents rather than our ticket/returning ticket (and passport) cuz we didn't know at that time that there is such thing like what PH immi is doing. They mainly focused on asking about how long she has been living with us/working for us, her work experience etc., (in my case she has been a kasambahay in my partner's family for 13 years) and then the BI interviewed me (employer). I got asked same question, how long she's been with us etc., (they just wanna make sure she's not lying I guess). I was also asked to show our photos together from my phone. Then I was asked to sign a document saying that I'll be supporting her financially through out the trip and will bring her back to the Philippines. Before letting us go the BI also told me that everything I signed is binding and that I will have to bring her back... hope this helps!

It happened worse to my sister. She was 50 years old then. I bought a ticket for her to visit me in one of the countries in South east Asia where I migrated. She was denied travel by the immigration so she just went home and never tried to visit me since then. It’s so unjustifiable that a 50 year old is not allowed to go on holiday. Horrible immigration officers.

It wasn't my first time to travel and in fact, I had an education visa. I had to call on someone I knew abroad to attest that I have been going in and out of the country for educational purposes. Yung permit to travel irerequire ng mga airlines for booking the tickets.

I presented my visa and company certificate and insurances that pretty much covers everything or anything to happen to me abroad. Pinabalik balik ako sa desk ng POEA hanggang sa sumama na sakin yung nasa desk just to tell IO na hindi ko kailangan yung document na hinahanap nila. Good thing I am well prepared with the same documents na sinubmit ko when I applied for the Schengen visa so kahit igisa nila ako ng tanong, wala silang mahahanap na reason para i offload ako. Also, you don't have to carry or present your birth certificate in the airport when you have a biometric passport. The IO seemed to be suspecting Vanessa and the legitimacy of your holiday travel. With regards to the IO's behaviour and manner of questioning, it's like Psy Ops. Unfortunately, she/he was wrong. Immigration in Philippines is really terrible. I also experienced it the 3rd time I went to Taiwan for vacation. (I love Taiwan btw). They asked some very nonsense questions like why do I have to go Taiwan if there’s a nice place to spend for vacation in Philippines. (like wtf, I was cursing inside at that time but have to answered them professionally because i’m afraid they might reject my entry) But seriously, very insane. But then, we can’t blame the immigration. Because there are really so many Filipinos that are TNT or working abroad without following proper procedures so immigrations don’t have a choice but to get more strict. But I don’t think their solutions are very effective 😅 because Filipinos will really find a way to cross to other country and find job illegally if desperate

Speaking only from my experience especially my most recent trip to the Philippines: I was born in the Philippines but grew up in the US so obvi I look Filipino. My bf went with me to meet my family in the Philippines and he is not Filipino. He’s half white but looks very much Caucasian. We went up together to the immigration officer’s window. He gave his passport first and was only asked “is this your first time?” My bf said yes, passport stamped and good to go. I hand my passport, officer looked at it (little bit longer than with my bf before asking me questions). Proceeds to ask me if I was born in the US, how old was I when I moved, and if I still speak Tagalog then asks me “Saan ka ipinanganak dito sa Pilipinas?” with a slightly condescending tone. I answered but took me a minute because it caught me off guard and it’s the end of a 24-hr travel day. Officer with a smug look on his face, not completely satisfied with my answers then asks when we’re heading back, the exact date. It’s a good thing that I’m the one whole plans out travels and very organized with our documents, flight dates etc. FINALLY stamped my passport and let us go. I’m sure he was just doing his job but his line was the slowest moving one. It took us so long that our check in bags were the last in the conveyor. He be doing the utmost, didn’t realized I was gonna be interviewed like in a Miss Universe contestant 😅
For anyone wondering, yes my bf has a US passport….but so do I. So idk? Shouldn’t have mattered right?
Anyway, so sorry to you guys for this experience. Travel should be fun throughout the whole experience. I understand that safety is priority but they can promote safety without rudeness and condescension, instead should be with manners and grace.

We need to understand that thr immigration officer's job is to screen all incoming and outgoing passengers po and it probably comes with the job to look intimidating. Remember that as long as the passenger have all the necessary documents needed for travel (valid passport, roundtrip tickets (for tourists), etc..) Normally, if me visa stamped na sa passport Hindi na Sila naghajanap Ng proof of income or work cert. Just be confident when you approach the immigration officer while giving your passport and ticket po. All immigration employees are well trained in screening passengers po. So far, it only took less than 5mins lang experience ko sa immigration.

It's nice to hear our IO is doing their job thoroughly, to thorough that certain things shouldn’t be asked and for my personal opinion IRRELEVANT e.g., “Birth Certificate, Relationship status of the passengers, sometimes even the pocket money or other personal information” technically by LAW everyone has the right to travel and not question that way unless otherwise, you are flag as a person of interest. In addition the IO don’t have the jurisdiction to ask such questions. Take the example in other countries they just ask you to present your passport because that is the only document you need. BUT Truth To Be Told Immigration here in the Philippines in particular are like that because of some Filipinos are taking risk of traveling outside country as tourist then later will overstay worst do some illegal stuff. When caught after will blame the System, so sad.

Rule of thumb: kelangan mapatunayan mo na, babalik ka and you can support your stay sa country destination mo, hindi ka kase dapat maging liability sa pupuntahan mo kase if that happens, red flag lahat ng pinoys. Sometimes, they ask how much pocket money kase may cap din up to how much we can only bring na cash. Confidence is the key and dapat wag magpasindak! Uso pa nman ang human trafficking at dati may baklas passport pa.

What I hate with PH IO is they are also checking personal message in WA, Viber or Messenger, etc. (any messaging app). I understand they wanted to protect us from human trafficking, etc. But checking personal messages is really off! We are travelling adults. We provide all documents and answer their questions honestly. But they are really not trusting their fellow Pinoys. We are still living in the 90s. 🙄

@@beautifullifebycindy they can do their job properly and they can protect Filipinos from human trafficking without going into too personal such as scroll and read personal chats from viber, WhatsApp, messenger, email. There are documents enough to prove that person is not a victim of human trafficking. I’m glad this time they apologized for their mistake and they are being called out

Althgh the IO’s approach couldv been a little more professional, but with the alarming human trafficking, etc. incidents happening in the south east asian countries, you cant help but understand that these officers are just doing their job to also protect us Filipinos. Its still a good experience though, so that next time, youll be more confident and more prepared as well. Also, the stamps on your passport somehow signifies your rank or level as a traveller if you look at it from a gamers perspective. So the higher the level you have, the better chances of you winning each stage 😊

Proof of your travel itinerary and hotel bookings come handy 😊.
I told them I have some cash but will mainly use my card.
If they suspect human trafficking or intention to work as an escort, they will keep asking questions.

For some reason, they seem suspicious of people travelling together.

Be confident to every answer to IO's question. I think that would be okay. The more kasi na sumagot ka ng kabado or like with a little fear, mabilis talagang mag do-doubt ang IO kahit ba sabihin nating kabado ka lang naman kasi first time mo mag travel at ma-interview ng IO. We cannot blame them din naman if they are very strict, they are just doing their job dahil marami talagang human trafficking na nangyayari sa iba't ibang bansa at commonly, coming from SEA. But am happy na naka-alpas kayo for your travel in Hong Kong. On the other hand, I have read one comment here sabi nya na IOs should go to retraining on how to interrogate travellers in a nice way. I agree on this. Yung ibang IO kasi sumobra naman yung dating pag nagtatanong. Yung para bang akala mo kriminal yung iniinterview. 😅

Immigration Officers used tricky questions to gather information for the truthful purpose of the travel. They are used on purpose, not just for being nagtataray or being too rude. They are protecting the Filipinos as well from trafficking or for us to get in trouble thru illegal employment outside the country. They are trained well to do their job on the best way they could do. And yes, they looked for BCs not because they are doubtful with your identity, even though you all have the IDs with you, but because of the possibility na baka you're too ready para mag asikaso ng employment papers pag dating sa HK, as it is also well known for our Kababayans go-to country if they want to work abroad.

Kailan balik niyo? Nagdecide ako mag move to Australia for good nung Jan 2021, during the pandemic for a better life and para kasama pamilya ko na nandun na. Kainis. I know iniiwasan nila ang mga may balak mag TNT, pero hindi naman lahat ng aalis ng bansa ganun ang pakay eh. And if ever man may mag TNT, let the other country's immigration handle them at sila nag mag punish, mas harsh pa sila dun, in the end iiwak parin sila at hihingi ng tulong sa government natin para mapauwi sila

Thanks for sharing. Philippine immigration officers are unfortunately just following protocols mandated by idiots in our government. The laws/guidelines are anti-poor and discriminatory, in the guise of preventing human trafficking. The only reason they have been getting away with this for such a long time is that we accept the practice as being the norm. Only in the Philippines.

First time ko mag Thailand kasama ko afam ko na jowa. Since first timer, normal na questions are paano kami nagkakilala etc. Tas iniwan nya yung boarding pass ko dun sa counter tas binigyan nya ako ng form na ifill out ko daw sa 2nd screening for first time traveller. Ayun buti nalang di masyado matao at na assist din ako agad after ng form pero dun na nag ask ng mga personal questions like my educ background, work background, salary ko, and same thing sinabi na next time iprint daw yung docs. Kasi pinagawa nya sakin is iscreenshot ko daw yung email thread ng PTO request, COE, booking details, etc. Thrn send sa email nila then dun pa prinint ng IO. Then yun pinabalik din ako sa counter/IO na pinanggalingan ko then dun lang natatakan. Hope this second travel di na ganun kahigpit. Its just so sad na need pa naten dumaan sa nerbyos at patunayan ang sarili sa mga IO na yan kung may kalayaan naman talaga dapat tayu mag labas masok ng ating bansa.

I'm sorry what happen to you guys!.
Sadly, the Philippines has big problem with human trafficking and some of them are perpetrated by the family/relatives. The "typical pattern" is to travel to HK or an ASEAN country as tourist, making it as a stepping stone and then, generally, try to enter to the Schengen area.
Immigration officers cannot afford to doubt to any case they encounter so at some point, I can understand their actions but at the same time, there are a lot of better ways to approach it.
