Some comments from what you said, addressing other HP calculators to contextualize Where DM42 is placed:
    (1) HP32S and 32Sii had 26 memories (A to Z), similar to what HP35S has (for direct addressing).
    (2) I have 2x units of HP35S, as the last ‘classic’ RPN scientific model made by HP. HP50G and Prime are in another league, as they are really RPL, not RPN.
(2A) Although program memory is ‘big’ for a RPN calculator, the HP35S’ program labels are 2 step backwards from HP41C and HP42S. There are other features seen as a ‘mixed bag’
    (3) I (still) have HP41CV and HP42S. Both are great calculators.
(3A) HP41 is more than just a calculator, it is the CPU of an “calculating system”, using also card and tape readers, printers, etc. I still have 1 ‘ok’ , stored without those awkward N batteries, but had always one operational since 1981.
(3B) HP42S as a RPN calculator alone, for me, is the best made by HP, using a 2-line display and intensely based on menus, selected from the to row of keys.
It deals with matrix, complex numbers, has the amazing HP-Solve and variables are not just numeric “STO 01” (HP41C) or just alphabetic “STO B” (HP32S, HP35S), but ALSO accepts Words as “STO ‘DAYS’ “.
All these features made me unfulfilled to program other models, even when compared with the fabulous HP41CV.
    (4) SwissMicros’ DM42 uses the ‘almost’ the same software “Free HP42S” available in cellphones, ‘almost’ as it now has a much higher precision than HP’s. It also works with an updated Hardware, ARM-based, including a multi-line display (with more than 4 lines) and larger memory. Another operational change, seen as an improvement, was to add a top row of keys, nonexistent in the original HP42S.
I just bought one DM42S and will receive it next month (Aug/2023).

Wow, you really know a lot about these calculators! Could you please write a review comparing your DM42S with other HP models like the 35S, 42S, 48GX, and 50G? Thanks!

What I liked in this video was the physical dimensions being compared side by side for DM42 & HP35S

Cool, great review. I have a HP48SX from late 80s. We had HP11C in mid to late 80s for UIL in High School.

I have the HP-35S and it $hot up to $500(I paid $55 only two years ago)when they stopped making them at about the same time.
I've been eyeing That DM-42 for a while, and it's gonna be my next RPN scientific calc but it's up to $324+$6 shipping as of 10.13.2023.

This I have never understood. The 35S isn't that great a calculator. I bought one too as RPN Pioneer series calculators on eBay were going for stupid money and I was afraid of losing or having my 42S stolen if I took it out frequently. I was not impressed.

The Swiss Micros calculators are amazing! I have been trying to buy one of their credit card size models but they have been out of stock for a while.

Yeah, GSRBanks explained a whle back that the small covers were difficult to source at present.
However, the rumour is that SM will be releasing a new DM32. Also, the C47 team are hoping to release a keypad overlay for the DM42... lots of interesting projects being discussed so hopefully this time next year we'll have more toys on the desk.

You have my sympathy. I know the experience is not the same, but you might consider putting Free42 on your phone. I have a couple of 42s and 32s, but I always have my phone on my person, and Free42 is very handy to have around.
