Store bought and homebrew hand sanitizers are flammable due to the high alcohol content. So let your hands dry before getting them close to an open flame. (Smokers, this means you.)
I can’t use hand sanitizer😔 of course it’s something we need have just in case there is no sink to wash your hands but I just (my opinion) feel like it’s not that affected. You can see the dirt on your hands even if you’ve used the hand sanitizer but I’d rather go and wash my hands. But like I said that’s my opinion.
Yes that's your opinion and I use hand sanitizer all the time what kind of you using liquid hand sanitizer that you can see the dirt through it I don't see the dirt through mine my hands are probably cleaner than yours
I made two bottles (08 oz. each) yesterday, the same way you did on this video and I followed many videos showed the same way. It works for me! I bought two original 'hand sanitizer' from Dollar Tree few months ago. They made it much thicker, why?
Laboratories that make sanitizers add other ingredients such as carbomers which turns the mixture into a much thicker gel. Those types of ingredients are not sold in stores so when we make it at home we just use basic ingredients. That being said, if you want yours to be thicker just add more aloe vera gel.
To make 99-ish percent isopropyl alcohol from the lower concentration rubbing alcohol you will actually find in stores, add salt to the store bought alcohol. Water in the mixture will separate out leaving a thick layer of high purity alcohol floating on top of saltwater. Decant the top layer of alcohol and use this in your homebrew hand sanitizer.
Add enough salt so there is some undissolved salt left in the bottom of the mixture. I.e. the saltwater part of the solution is saturated. The dividing surface between saltwater and alcohol will be easily visible and forms quickly after you add salt and shake to mix. There are videos on RUclips showing how to do this.
Always the ingredients that are hard to find are the things that works, like it's hard for me to get 99percent alcohol so yeah it is time to start praying only God can help us.
The equation to determine the final concentration of isopropyl alcohol in the homemade hand sanitizer is: (the isopropyl alcohol's strength in percent) X the proportion of the alcohol in the final mix. In this case, using the actual 70% isopropyl alcohol that these two actually used in this video, the strength of the hand sanitizer is = 70% isopropyly alcohol X 66% = 46.2%. This is less than the required 60% alcohol to be effective at killing bacteria and viruses recommended by the CDC. David said he could not find 99% alcohol. Had he found it and used it, the strength of his mix would be = 99% alcohol X 66% of the mix that is the isopropyl alcohol = 65.3%. Note that Purell's Hand Sanitizer is 70% alcohol by volume. And Purell (Gojo is name of their parent company) knows hand sanitizer and makes their sanitizer 70%.
Put soap and warm water in a plastic container take with you and a bottle of warm are hot wash your hands when you get to the car pour water over hands.
Pardon me, but my 5/percent key does not work. 99 percent alcohol at a 2/3 ratio (2 parts alcohol / 1 part aloe) makes a 66 percent solution. If using 91 percent alcohol at a 2/3 ratio will make a 60.7 solution, however 91 percent alcohol at 3/4 ratio will make a 68.3 solution. because being done in the kitchen, I would go with 3 parts 91 percent alcohol and 1 part aloe. I also add in a wee bit of lime juice. For those who don't know, take the starting percent and multiply by a ratio, say in Angela's other post if starting with 80.5 alcohol at a 2/3 will make a 53.7 percent too weak but at 3/4 (3 to 1) will make a 60.4 percent solution. hope this helps clarify. stay safe, take care all

Happy Me you need between 60-70% in other to kill germs. If you don’t have a 91 or 99% you can do as follow: Take 2 cups of your 70% isopropyl alcohol with 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel to get 60% strength. Or you can get 91% isopropyl alcohol at dollars general for $2.5 to make 68% strength
If you already have alcohol 70%, it's better to use it as it is. Mixing it with aloe vera will only diluted it more and the end product will have less alcohol content. The end product must have at least 60% of alcohol to effectively kill germs
If you have 70% alcohol then dont use aloe vera..use glycerine instead as aloe vera will make it more diluted and your final product will come out like 50% alcohol..
From a medical field and as a researcher’s perspective, it works almost the same. Plus, sanitizer does not kill Corona...many ppl having misconception about the potency of hand sanitizer. Best method is soap, any types of soap will remove dirt, weak to mild microbes.. Higher % alcohol is hard to find during this time. Most store now have 50-60% if you are lucky, you might be able to find 70% If you want to make your alcohol 99% then you can still use 70% or any % and turn it into 99% using dilution method to get yours 99%. C1V1 = C2V2.
Grain alcohol is a very high percentage of alcohol. But as Catherine points out, it's not available everywhere, and even then it is produced in varying levels of proof.
We have pure 200 proof medical grade alcohol at work for cleaning instruments and gages.(in my lab only) Its a controlled issue item. So maybe I can make my own small bottle of sanitizer? Worth a shot.
