I love this idea!! I am in MA and have attached a sock filled with poly-fil to the hose from my well and continuously changed it out as my pool was filling so this will save me a lot of time. Thanks!!
I’m doing this right now! Thank you for sharing. A little advice from a plumber. Don’t use Teflon tape on plastic threads. Use pipe dope. Thread tape can make it easier to cross thread. Just a little advice I’ve learned over the years. Thanks again
Thanks guy, im new to well water so its been a change of pace for me, wasnt sure how i was gonna get my pool cleaned until i came across your video...thanks guys it helped alot
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead okay thanks for the quick response. I think this will work for my pool as well, but I do have a lot of trees that surround my pool and leaves and pinestraw constantly fall in it. Any suggestions for this as well? You guys seem very knowledgeable on this topic!
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead okay great! That's actually what I have so I'm hoping once I set up the bucket filter it'll drastically change all of it. I feel like it will! Thanks again and God bless!
Hi, I just duct taped the hose to the underside and turned the whole thing upside-down balanced on the top step of the ladder. It’s working so far and no fittings needed!
This is a better version of one i made 5 years ago. I like the fittings better. But one tip... use the 3 dollar pillows from DG or walmart instead of the poly fil brand. Just cut the pillow open and pull the stuffing out! Cheap!!I also put my chlorine and clarifier tablets in the middle of the stuffing.
I did this then went to a pvc pipe that’s packed full of pillow stuffing muzzle loader style (from the removable capped end) the threaded cap has 1/4” holes in it like a sprinkler and before putting the stuffing in I put a wiggle ball in it with a small rope attached to pull the stuffing out to replace it. The other end has a fitting for a hose and I use that while filling the pool. Works the same just cuts a day or two out of the process
Well water sucks! & lol Lisa that made me laugh hopefully within the next couple videos me and Curtis are so busy getting the last minute stuff together for the wedding!
This is seriously a life saver to do before actually buying the pool!! Would it be ok to do it while the pool is filling? & also would the bucket filter need to be consistently on? :) Thank you so much!
We did hook up the hose to the bucket while it was filling and it did not help so its best to filter it after the pool is full we leave the bucket on 24/7
@@mickelsonfamilyhomesteadhi! Just wanted to ask we have a intex 18ft round pool would we need to know the filters hose size before buying all the parts? Or would the ones you recommend fit?
Awesome video! I have a couple of questions though: 1.) how long do you keep the well water running? I'm afraid to burn out the pump if I keep it running all the time. 2.) Do you keep the filter running at night/all the time? Thanks!
We let the well run until the pool is full we have never had a problem, not sure what state you are in if your in a dryer state? The pump is running 24/7.
Will this filter work on algae when vacuuming the pool bottom? Also is putting holes in only the upper half of the lid essential to the filter operation, or would it work with holes all the way across?
Can you filter the water through the pools sand filter? I'm gonna be filling my newly installed pool this year with a near by brook. I'm wondering if the sand filter will work. If it'll filter pool water it should filter water from a brook. I'll have to change out the sand before connecting it to the pool.
It's easy to fix return outlet of a above ground pool into a bucket but for concrete where you have four or five outlets how do you do that when the pipes has been buried?
I just did this myself, the water that comes out of your filter and is going back into your pool, you disconnect it from you pool and hook it up to the bucket that drains back into your pool. I used my step ladder with a piece of board on it to have the bucket sit on. It really does work just takes some time. I just got my 1 year old a 12 foot round 30 inch deep Intex pool for his first bday and it took me around 24 hours to clear the water up. Helpful tip I stopped it about every 4 hours and cleaned the filter off, I did have to move the bucket to the ground while doing this or you'll start draining the iron in the bucket back into the pool. It's also a good time to drain out the bucket and hook your filter back up, let it run for a min before sitting back up bc it will also push out some iron upon starting back up..hope this helped some good luck

Hi, thanks for sharing this awesome idea! To be clear, you guys got rid of the original filter and totally replaced it with the bucket right?
Yes got rid of the original filter and just use the bucket.

This is so cool! We had bad iron in water in CT…what a mess. Mainly we had manganese. So staining! Oh and me waiting on the mini chainsaw review! Lol

All the experiment I have seen are on above ground pools, what about concrete in ground pools? How do I get rid of the iron water in sand filter
I would do the same thing but not sure how to hook it up?

I am absolutely shocked at the color of that! I thought you were exaggerating, but nope. Wow.
Do you run the bucket all season? If you do do you have any other filter in your pump
@@sheila9300 run it all season and no we don’t.
Do u ad clorine or bleach during the bucket filter? We have had ours going on now day 4. Its cleared up alot but do i need to add chemical to help?
Will adding shock while doing this help or will it Make it not clear up?
We did a bottle of bleach.
Keep the bucket under water to prevent PH and Alkalinity from rising.
That is nice cool
How much bleach did you put in?
1 gallon.
How much bleach did yall use
We used 1 gallon.
Thank you and it didn't need with iron metals or nothing
buy a sand filter works better
I had a sand filter it did not work to remove the iron..
