This may sound odd but I would like to see Kirby go to an antique shop or an antique furniture store sometime. I am sure his home is "well dressed" and is decorated to the level of care as he dresses himself. Some insight into where he purchases the furniture and decor would be a welcome addition to the content.
As someone who has made books for a living for the last 20 years, I'm very appreciative to see the trade show cased on your channel. Thank you, I enjoyed the video.
I must specifically compliment you on your music in this video. It is reminiscent of childhood movies where the protsgonist explores a vast and mysterious library. Top notch!
Kirby, this was a treat mate. It reminded me that I have a 1922 copy of The Old Country, which was a collection of poems, short stories, and essays by the luminaries of English culture. It was edited together and given to lads marching into France and Belgium in 1914, to remind them of home and give them a mental reprieve from the darkness they were living through. This copy is immaculate, bound in England by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, emblazened in gold leaf with beautifull illustrations throughout. As a proud Englishman living in Virginia it is truly one of my prized possessions, and one hundred years later still serves the purpose it was put together for... If only for someone less deserving. Again, thank you.
Love seeing traditions protected and shared. Sure beats losing brain cells watching the drivel passed off as entertainment these days. Kirby, your content provides so much pleasure and learning. Thank you!❤
As a book collector, former librarian, and archivist, I approve. The London has some amazing book stores, including antiquarian book dealers. Dublin also has some great dealers.
Kirby always delivers with excellent, and well produced, content. His respect for quality, craftsmanship & tradition is not limited to clothing. As such, I look forward to seeing the many directions he will take his channel.
Love this addition to the content collection. I am more than slightly biased due to my rather large (500+) collection of books. That being said I enjoy seeing the more artisan and collectible side of books since my personal collection is solely academic in nature.
Thank you for sharing. I missed this book store when we were in London. Must visit next time we go. We have a wonderful book store here in Cincinnati called The Ohio bookstore. Four floors of books and the basement they have a book binding business where they restore old books. London is my favorite city. Best regards Ron
Kirby must speak to so many people on his travels, his voice is starting to go a bit as it did in the last London trip. Shows how much he must be trying to do on his visits!
If I set foot in that place you might not see me for days. You see so many small businesses come and go but these guys are going strong since 1761, incredible. I was thinking, Kirby, take your hat off inside when he realised that himself and whipped it off at 3:47. The hat and suit work perfectly together.
Hi! Thank you Kirby for another episode celebrating history, beautiful! Unfortunately I missed up closed photos from the books you got through. Maybe it was deliberate?! Anyway I enjoyed it very much. Tommy
Kirby - Closer to your home in the U.S. is Adam Weinberger who sells rare books in New York City. I would recommend him if you are getting into collecting rare books. He has some unusual pieces for sale and is very informed about what is available on the rare book market.
I like reading an e-book as much as the next fellow, but I'm also pretty old school when it comes to books. I still have books from my childhood, although I've lost many as well. That's why I like what Folio Society sells in their ultra premium bound and slipcased line of books. Some titles are obviously much more expensive and exclusive than others, but I've purchased a few of their books including their quite excellent James Bond series. I used to have almost every novel in the old paperbacks, save for The Man With The Golden Gun. I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you're a collector and reader!
I was in the printing business for a little over 40 years total....I miss the smell of ink on paper.....worked on many large projects over the years.....I was in charge of security for the last two Harry Potter books.....we printed 21 million copies without a leak of the files.....
Lots more to explore here I'm sure. Would be great to see you talk about your favourite books and look at some of the finest literary works. Something that Anthony Bourdain did very well
This is how the world should start to look like. Going to a real place ( not Amazon) dressing up for the day like you respect your self and having interesting conversations with other human beings and getting excited about books.
This was amazing Kirby. Really enjoyed this. Rare books are in essence a time machine. It allows one to observe the past through the eyes and worldview of the persons who created it. The challenge with rare books is what happens if you want to actually study the material rather than shelve it? Does using the book diminish its value?
I'll tell you two books you can find in England or America, these books are new prints but not cheap, the first is- Picasso, cover is made by some fabric; and the other one- Man and his watch, this is about vintage watches. Picasso must be over 200 USD or around, the other one is cheaper but still quite an impressive piece. I shall recommend do some research in post stamps, they are not so expensive nowdays, but very enjoyable for collecting according to the themes of interest.
(This question is off topic.) I have a $200.00 budget for a suit, where would you recommend I look for a good black, all season suit at this price point? I am interning as a funeral director, and I need to find a black suit I can wear outside in 90-100 degree heat. Any help will be appreciated.
You’ve come to the right place for suggestions on how best embody the timeless, classic look of a funeral director. For $200, your best bet will be to look on eBay for vintage suits in your size. I would recommend a simple two button suit. But have you considered dark grey instead of black? I would suggest something in 100% wool with no polyester, which will be impossible to find at that price point new.
@kirbyallison Thank you for your suggestion, I will keep this information in mind. I have considered wearing a dark grey suit, it is slightly more informal than my boss would prefer. Thank you so much for your time, and have a wonderful rest of your day.
I'm sorry I can't watch this one with you so horse 😢 it makes me sad and is distracting my friend but wow what a beautiful shop. Deserves a second video
One more, there is no need to pay super-expensive price for French cognacs, ask Sahakian, that you're interested in the original Armenian and Georgian brandies, Ararat and Sarajishvili, where to buy them. The quality and taste are the highest possible.
Hey everyone I just wanna wish you all a good time and a beaut live Oh, and of cause Oh, and of cause I love old books as well. Sadly, most of the new ones are not as beautiful anymore. I would love more new books. to be bound in leather or other high-quality materials instead of paper with paper and paper and glue oh, and I have one Gutenberg print on my wall well, it’s not a print that is made to review from Guttenberg but it’s a print that is made from a Guttenberg machine. Gutenberg press From the Guttenberg museum
were those "homosexual pride" flags in the background? if so that's unfortunate. By the way Kirby, the videos you produce are of truly excellent quality.

Doesn't sound odd at all. I would enjoy that as well.
Quality, craftsmanship and tradition.... that's what I tell my wife when she is preparing a nice dinner.
I love this episode! What a delightful surprise to add bibliophilic content to this channel.
Thank you! It was a fun episode to film!
@@kirbyallison 🙂 you're welcome!
Great to see my little brother at work. He looks and sounds like the expert he is. Congratulations, Chris.
Kirbys narration paints pictures, incredible vocabulary.
As someone who has made books for a living for the last 20 years, I'm very appreciative to see the trade show cased on your channel. Thank you, I enjoyed the video.
I love the classy classic Englishman look, it's a timeless look 👌

Thanks Kirby.. I am a collector of rare books & maps. Also a subscriber for years now. I really enjoyed this episode.

I am a book collector myself. This is INCREDIBLE! Thank you for this documentary.
Thank you! Chris runs an incredible shop!
Thanks Kirby for this collaboration - I love books, ephemera, bookmarks, and other paper goods. Glad to see you explored this!
Thanks Kirby, please keep exploring London for less usual things, outside your day to day zone of interest.
As a book collector, former librarian, and archivist, I approve. The London has some amazing book stores, including antiquarian book dealers. Dublin also has some great dealers.
I'm not a book collector but I just find this type of content so relaxing to watch if I've just had a stressful day.
Longtime viewer here. Keep up the quality videos!!
Same! Love these long form videos that act almost like mini-documentaries of the places he visits.
Kirby always delivers with excellent, and well produced, content. His respect for quality, craftsmanship & tradition is not limited to clothing. As such, I look forward to seeing the many directions he will take his channel.
Very kind, Gerald!
That hat you're wearing is the best-fitting hat I've seen in a VERY long time! Suits you sir.
Incredible! Just looked at their website and the most amazing stuff they have
Sotheran are completely first class. I’ve been a customer for many years…..🇬🇧
Kerby, you're amazing, you work so hard, rare books, I like that, that's the real thing!

And he'd just been to Duke's. The Vesper is a very strong Martini - hits the back of the throat hard! Lucky man, Kirby.
Nice find, would be fun to see a part 2 of more old books and illustrations

Kirby . . . a homerun! I have been eagerly awaiting this. Looking forward to your introducing fine leather-bound classics on your website.
Brilliant episode! Would love to see more like this 🙏
There’s a very clear Harry Potter vibe here. I love it.
I took a book there for appraisal, they were incredibly helpful.
A wonderful episode. Your channel is so classic and desirable!

Kirby and I share so many hobbies and interests... if I lived in Dallas I'd insist on a cigar and a fine brandy with him!

Dear Kirby; Love the channel.
I was wondering if you could show people how wonderful the Christmas Markets in London are for traditional gifts

Wonder if JD bought the Ninth Gate Book from him.
KA in Dubai and Abu Dhabi❤

Tom Cruise>
🤣 I noticed he avoided saying his slaves...
That same 1961 first ed book is going for 27.96 on ebay -- 1260 pnds hahahahah ....
Your Imperial past is increasingly disgust.
I better not visit this place. Likely to come away quite a bit lighter.
Try as he might, Kirby the septic simply cannot find any class
