    This whole video is basically one long series of OSHA violations. "keep clear, the arm is now dangerous" followed immediately by approaching it. Not how you do things in industry. If you don't believe how dangerous this was, look at the bent 1/2" bolt at 19:12. If that same force went into your skull you would not have a good day.
    But, to give kudos where it's due, he is good at explaining the physics of why its dangerous and guiding people on the right train of thought.

    Hey,
    thank you for the video first, very interesting! Now my question:
    at 29:10 he announces that there are more autopsy videos coming up. Where can I find them? I think after two years they already are released but I can't find them anywhere. I'm really interested in the gearing and motors of the high torque axis (especially axis 2&3)

    It would have been possible to build a new control system for this robot using OSS software.

      This is the end of the actual teardown videos, but we will be moving into production of a few episodes featuring the different parts shortly. :)

      We actually were donated two new robots, one of which has already taken Jeff's place. There will be a video about them very soon. Some of Jeff's parts will become display/demonstration pieces.

    You guys need smaller tools with helluva lot of power. :D Pneumatic impact with metric bits would be a nice .... I`d love to disassemble something that "cool". :D

      That's a baby. Try a Kuka KR-1000 or a Fanuc M-2000. Those really are serious machines.

    why do you move axis 2 while removing it? rigging has to machine tight.

    why ? a beautiful piece of engineering, which could be serviced properly and put to good use. get the service manuals, fix it properly or donate the machine ! this makes me sick. even worse than those people who break to pieces a perfectly good 100 year old lathe and make cast iron ingots from it. this is just sickening....

      I think they told us in another video that this was 1 out of 2 Kuka prototypes that was gifted to them from Kuka. And part of the contract was that they had to disassemble it.

    Saturn 5 never exploded thanks to over engineering.
    Please go to details what makes KUKA so good. From shape of the gear teeth to the shape of cast parts of the arm. What makes them low noise and stiff. Hopefully new generation of mechanical engineers will pay attention to this RUclips channel. Universities are behind on practical education.

    They are acting the dismounting trying to make it look casual. It's a good acting but these guys read the manuals. There's NO guess work whatsoever. It's a nice click bait technique that makes the video fun to watch. If this goes completely 'canonical' and rigorous the video would reduce to a simple motor dismount done by the book.
    To be honest, I would love to watch a real video of how this happens because there is a lot of planning ahead. This doesn't happen on the basis of improvisation. When someone dismounts a Kuka robot that person should know what he will find inside. It's not a trivial work.

      i beg to disagree at many points they are forcing axis with a forklift when they could have just used the jacking bolts and im certain that every axis has 2-4 jacking bolts that would be marked in the service manual. every tight tolerance part should have at least a pair, since if a part comes off at a very slight angle it will bind up hard
