this was my favorite bit of their quad book, absolute heat. The feature leading into the swing section was probably more technically demanding, but I'm a sucker for ramming notes when it's done tastefully.
No, that was probably the cleanest quad line of the season. I don't know what video you watched, but I heard no dirt at all. They're clean, perfect heights, perfect technique, and they are playing rather difficult music in terms of timing and difficulty.
You nitpick the crap out of everything and feel depressed "Guys, that was only the best sound I've ever heard, but the 8th note was a half millisecond too slow, but it's okay, I no longer feel exhilarated" -Paul Sad
A DCI tenor line will break at least a few heads per week, so maybe 50 with all-days and tour put together. And they swap heads regularly, so that's at least another 100. Adding another 50 for all the camps; 200+ heads in a season is a safe guess. Thank goodness for endorsements!
From my experience, heads go dead every now and again but it's actually pretty rare for a head to break when it's tuned properly and played with good technique. However, they replace the heads often so that they look and sound nice at performances.
they're already done for. i was at this dci and i saw that not a single tech wore earplugs. they're all gonna be deaf once they get to their late 30's early 40's
Yep. Played in lines for 12 years, wore hearing protection the last 2. I'm 27 and have recently developed mild tinnitus in my left ear. I was warned repeatedly but did not listen. If I was an educator, it would be a requirement.
I love the SCV tenor line, one of the dopest lines out there. One thing I cannot stand, is that they all have the logos on the top, 3 and 4 should be upside down and so should the spock. They're essentially playing on the wrong side of the zones, if the logo is on top, then the playing zone is on the bottom, right? Then 3 and 4 should be upside down to get the playing zones.
Raul Lopez It's all really just preference. Also, there is no wrong side of the playing zone. The playing zones are always going to be in between the center and rim of the drum
The reason most put drum 3/4 and Spock heads with the logos facing back is to keep the bead from hitting the ink, scratching it off, or even marking up other areas of the head.
The visual at 8:39 is so the one quad player can push his glasses back into place. I aspire to have friends like that.
Finn Boi OK, that's bad ass.
That’s actually so cool to add a visual just to benefit a single person
It's actually a reference to the previous center tenor who pushed his glasses up in a lot
@@ruddgrennen3988oh ok. I was like. "Ain't nobody wearing glasses."
I talked to those guys in the Denton lot tonight (July 2022)… guess what… that visual has been in every show since (including this year)!
Best tenors in DCI past 4 years hands down!
best tenors in the world since the early 90's... they really laid the foundation down.
Svc is so underrated, fuck blue devils and fuck blue coats😂😂
nah their exercises shouldn't be dirty at all
Amazing sound, amazing playing, and amazing book. Best lot video I've seen in a while
Tuning, technique, balance and blend, Renaissance Emperors = eargasm.
It's sounds like one tenor, amazing
Tim Biles was my quad tech my freshman year and he’s honestly amazing
8:08 SKANK. Damn
7:35 Phantom Regiment 2010-ish (yes, I’m well aware Rennick wrote for Phantom as well.)
this was my favorite bit of their quad book, absolute heat. The feature leading into the swing section was probably more technically demanding, but I'm a sucker for ramming notes when it's done tastefully.
best sounding quads in dci

7:16 center quad's right hand lmao "perfect technique"
to be fair there is some dirt its just super minimal, but yeah SCV quads are on another level.
Mark Miller where did you march? Just curious
Bruh, I marched world class this summer, sit the fuck down.
6:42 Show starts here
Socrates Thank you
They sound like flavors. If flavors had a sound. I hear sweet and sour.
the spock is definitely sour
6:42
how do you even tech a perfect drumline
In scv, you don't tech the drumline, the drumline techs you
That shit just made me laugh way harder than I should have 😂 ❤💚
wear flip flops and have a corona and admire the perfection
You nitpick the crap out of everything and feel depressed
"Guys, that was only the best sound I've ever heard, but the 8th note was a half millisecond too slow, but it's okay, I no longer feel exhilarated"

Sound production is amazing
8:07 ooooooooooooooo~~~~~~~~
Wow, cleanest tenors I've heard since 2013 blue devils
Warm up at 0:16 I know it's some form of 8 on a hand. But I want to know how to play it.
Does anyone know what sticks they're using? I know it's innovative percussion but i don't know the model
Stephen Pitchford Yes, Innovative Percussion: TS-PR
Which quads were gonna age our?
Those 6 dislike are just mad they don't have chops!
Does anyone have sheetmusic for the warmups?
Do they use the deep cut or standard quads?
NP Drums : those are the deep cut shells.
I thought porn on youtube was illegal
Max Alvarado tf
So will i
what sticks are they using ?
Will_BD15 Innovative Percussion TS-PR
I would guess a Paul Rennick signature stick :P
8's style at 0:16?
How many drum heads do they go through in one season??
I'm guessing alot. My friend and I are tenors in my schools line. we're just about midway through the season and collectively broke 6 heads lol

Patrick Foit Okay I know I have a small band, but I've never hit a drum so hard that I've broken the head. How do you even do that!?
I wouldn't say all of them break, but the heads always look brand new, so I assume every few shows they probably switch them for the best sound
From my experience, heads go dead every now and again but it's actually pretty rare for a head to break when it's tuned properly and played with good technique. However, they replace the heads often so that they look and sound nice at performances.
Drum tech is gonna f up his ear drums =(
they're already done for. i was at this dci and i saw that not a single tech wore earplugs. they're all gonna be deaf once they get to their late 30's early 40's
You should see Paul rennick in the snare circle. 9 snares gock shotting and him in the middle like nothing's happening
Ethan Pierce Rennick wears ear protection. He's very sensitive to that.
Yep. Played in lines for 12 years, wore hearing protection the last 2. I'm 27 and have recently developed mild tinnitus in my left ear. I was warned repeatedly but did not listen. If I was an educator, it would be a requirement.
paul most certainly does not wear ear plugs.

Lol that’s not how zones work
