Biting the Hand is going on my birthday list at the end of the month. Confederates in the Attic sounds like an interesting read given it is an older text, but I am not able to put myself through non fiction that I know will end up triggering my rage. And an author apologising for racists is def going to trigger my rage! Hearts on Hold by Charish Reid (who works in academia in Sweden) is a Black female professor and a White male children's librarian romance. There is some stuff that I felt was a bit on the nose and a bit cheesy, but it was her second book and the second one of hers I read and I like it a lot. I''ve read quite a few Katrina Jackson, and her writing leaves a lot to be desired IMO, but her characters and stories are worthwhile. My fav of hers so far is Layover which is about two Black podcasters (the woman is a travel journalist I think) and includes themes of grief and community activism and I found it incredibly romantic. Anyway, TFS 😊 PS. More shots of the doggos, please! 😂😂😂
Biting the Hand is definitely worth it and yeah the Confederates book is rage inducing. Immediately picking up Hearts on Hold and Layover! You always have fantastic recommendations, thank you!
Red Comet is quite the feat to have finished! I know seeing people finish it last year and rave also put it on my radar, but man am I not up for that much dense material, especially as not much of a poetry focused reader that sounded like a slog from what you mentioned.
I would have been hesitant about picking up a JC Cervantes book because of the middle grade ableism issues too, but The Enchanted Hacienda sounds lovely! I'll add that to my list, as well as Biting the Hand. You always read such interesting books!
@@bookwhimsy Thanks for thinking about it! There are so many great books that just aren't quite for me (especially violent or dramatic ones). I'll skip this one, but I still really appreciate your review!
As always, such a wide variety of genres to choose from. A few caught my attention. I assume there were no Black persons participating in the Civil War reconstructions?
You know there's aren't any Black people at those reenactments! He even notices it when he's sleeping with a bunch of men in the middle of a cold wet field 🙄

Layover is on Kindle unlimited and my library has Hearts on Hold so I'm doing a happy dance 💃🏽
@@bookwhimsy You too☺
@@bookwhimsy Hope you like both🥰

There is quite a bit of poetry analysis 😬. That part wasn't for me. Only Plath's life get me going and the fact that I had the audiobook 😃

The Enchanted Hacienda does get angsty toward the end but it is very lovely before that 😃. I think you'll really like Biting the Hand!
@@bookwhimsy Oh, angsty, huh? Do you think it's still work me trying it, or should I skip that one?
@@ThatsSoPoe I had to give this a lot of thought because I hate saying skip it but knowing you, it's probably a skip.

You should get a mic. Unsolicited advice.
