I am an animator. I'm sure everyone realizes that this is a lot of hard work, but let me just confirm that this is insane! Designs for animation are typically very simplified so that they are 1. Humane for the animators and 2. They can be kept consistent with multiple people working on a production. Even with smear frames and not keeping the lines completely consistent, this is LOT of work, especially if done on paper. I have a lot of respect for Black Tabby and specifically Abby Howard for putting these designs to motion.
That honestly adds to the surreal and stressful nature of that encounter. I was impressed by how the Apotheosis appears behind her due to her sheer size.
The versions where like "Everyone" just stares and quickly turn into an angry snarl are the most creepiest. Its like you are definetly getting under her skin, and are about to anger a literal God against you.
An ordinary married couple has a quarrel: Arguments, conflicts, a little swearing, showing evidence of their rightness and in the end they kiss each other as a sign of forgiveness. Quarrels among a godlike married couple: absorption of variations of existence, distortion of the foundation of reality, disembodying themselves into endless copies in different universes for family battles, discussion of philosophical issues of the meaning of the cyclicity of life and death and...........................................tell your wife that she is important to you more than anything else and together you return all the concepts of the physical cycle and continue to live happily...
The fact that thorn is the only one who has to be kept restrained by all those hands does probably imply that she's the only one who is still unhappy in there and prefers to get out and be with you.
1:17 i love this one so freakin much... The way she rushes up to you like as if she is genuinely scared for you is so great... And also the way all the multitudes look confused af while she pushes them to desperately get to you is hilarious.
aughgh... the way that the vessels are grabbing at the thorn (1:13) really makes me want!! to shout. a lot of the vessels have hands on them but none of them feel as invasive as the ones on the thorn. which fits her but also it makes me. so sad.
The Thorn is probably the best vessel to explain how being a God isn't all it's cracked up to be. In some way, the Shifting Mound is consumed by herself, or the concept of herself. She's whole, yes, but there's just too many of her. Infinite possibilities, so she can never focus on just one. She can no longer understand the finer details, just the 'heart'. Like skimming the introductory passage of a book. That's how the Long Quiet is different from her. He doesn't look at all the infinite versions of himself, so he stays a relative 'individual'. He isn't consumed by his perspectives. He can't be, because he represents STILLNESS. In some way, he's the more stable of the two, even if that means not seeing the 'truth'. That's why he recognizes the individual pieces. He focuses on the perspectives of the vessels, their emotions and what they went through. That's why he's more sympathetic to the humans. He can understand how there's a greater design like the Shifting Mound does, but he knows that that's not what the humans will see, and the whole point of their argument is that he's trying to get her to consider them. The Shifting Mound is dismissing the humans in the same way she's dismissing her own vessels. And there's no greater example of this 'unfairness' than the Thorn. Such a beautiful progression and change of their relationship, yes, but then it changes so abruptly. It changes by ENDING. And then just...moving on, but never actually seeing the Thorn ever again.
Wanna know what's more interesting? Eye of the Needle and Fury both get the angry approach (2:33) (2:50), but Adversary gets the cutesy approach (2:27)
@@D1abolosMemez Looking at the end cabin dialogue for the Adversary route, if you apologize she says we don't need to because she enjoyed it. Princess being a sadomasochist (probably?) puts this perspective in a "positive" light.
@@D1abolosMemez The Adversary just wants to have fun with the you(via killing each other). If you go down without a knife and kept standing back up despite the beating, even she would be crept out and put you out of your misery. Even the Voice of the Stubborn's on her side. The Adversary and Stubborn wanted a mutual fun.
It is fitting; Damsel's only wish is to leave with you and make you happy, and when you strip her of even that amount of agency by doubting it over and over again, you're basically killing her, earning her a spot together with the most ghostly versions of the Princess
The way the vessel rushes to the den / the beast with this sort of panicked look in there eyes makes me think the vessels are bursting out of the rest out of her control at first and prepared to try and lunge at the long quiet?
I'm fine with reusing animations, but giving the "how to draw anime" princess the corrupted animation. That decision should turn the coldest of hearts into.. into...
Also, I like the detail where the shifting mound tries to catch one of the princesses who would hate you the most and being distressed as that princess evades and appears on the other side.
It's the Razor. If you don't bring the knife down, you're forced to just dodge until she breaks against the construct that is you. Her entire form splinters and shatters until nothing's left but her heart.

THIS. Also an animator who works as a genga, this would be a NIGHTMARE to draft up and keep consistent, major props to the animator.

Yeah that part actually scared the shxt out of me
a terrifying and divine heart indeed

To be fair, you're also a god in this game that stands equal footing to her.

I haven't noticed before that in the version where she charges you she pushes away one of the vessels
poor vessel
I don't know if it's just me but her expression looks concerned. Like she's worried that if she doesn't get to you in time the Vessel might attack.
I like how the ghost like/ undead princesses have the glitch screen effect.
the spooky ones
As well as the doodle damsel.

in the frame when she is being pulled up she looks hella sad
This is why I choose to accept the offer of divinity, you can be with her in totality including the thorn
@@lordgeneralmilitantdeezy7550 i choose to walkout hand in hand with the stranger

whoever made the art for this game deserves the world, holy moly

I cannot imagine how much work you have to do to animate EVERY SINGLE PRINCESS and HANDS omg
2:43 that was cool

She still cute.
I love how they all turn to look at you with their BIG eyes
The Witch is so fucking cute. I love that freak.
I got so spooked by the apotheosis vessel animation ;-;
2:44 Holy crap, an Apotheosis jumpscare! This caught me completely off-guard
I love that they did this
Thank you so much for posting this.
