There's a story that the guy that started Cumberland Farms scooped a good layer off a bunch of really good fields and sold the top soil in my area. Everybody says the guy was a crook.
You cleaned up their mess and they are complaining? It is going to be a problem with the owners if that is the way they operate. I would think twice of continuing with them. Better off sending them a bill for the work you did and split.
Most landowners appreciate tenants that put things back into their farms. I would recommend soil samples on new ground and as you go so you can show current and prospective landowners what you do for their land
What amazes me about farmers is the length of your working days and the amount of work you put in. I wish you all well. Thanks for the insight into your world
Great video again sir keep em coming. Glad to hear you got your small problem sorted. Already looking forward to the next one. Regards to the family from across the pond
Great job cleaning up the field. Congratulations on getting your own ground. Still remember my first ground almost forty years ago. Great feeling. Keep the videos coming, really enjoy you and Yenko.
Your channel is very interesting with the unique challenges of farming in this "semi-urban" environment. I'll bet learning how to best work with these local land owners will turn out to be maybe even more valuable than knowing how to get the best crop.
Duffy, enjoy your channel & your daily videos but don't wear yourself out. We, your audience, are not going to abandon you if we don't have a daily video! 🙂

ticks are like people you have to deal with sometimes! that New Idea spreader would look nice behind my JD 52 B! Hey, cheer up! We use to cut mulch hay for the mushroom farms in Southern PA, a guy wanted us to mow this big field, so we did, he never told us there was christmas tree seedling planted in there, until it was to late!! Good clean up!! I'd love to sink a set of plows in it! I was plowing with a 770 oliver diesel and 3-14 in plow and hooked on a natural gas pipeline! almost threw me off the tractor!

So I figured I'd subscribe but I have question. How do you come up with an opinion that your losing money? Your doing field maintenance which is part of the game. You buy a tractor are losing money? You maintain your equipment are you thinking your losing money. Your gaining money my friend. Looks like you doing great job that field. Me I'd take what was left in fields on that equipment home sell scrap it keep or give it to the owner if they think they should have. When he she wants it there is storage fees to pay or what ever. Have a good day sir.
@@jamesmorrison1884 why he said he lossing money for now is that the can't be using for the season because of starting on it late in to the season so it will not be of use unit next season
I’ve heard some horror stories where the land owner used a new framer to start working the fields, only to throw them out on Technical grounds! Then they find out the town wanted the lot “cleaned up” so these sneaky land owners used the farmer to do the dirty work! Very sad. Hang in there, mate. No farmers! No food.
For the amount of stress that's involved and aggravation you have to REALLY ENJOY doing what you do. Support your local farmers 🚜 👌 keep food on THEIR table.
Good luck been there done that got to start somehow. After you cut the fence rows clean the ditches fertilize and it starts looking good. The owner will want more rent about the time you start making money
"My grandfather used to say that once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher. But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer."
Also a fact that a majority of american farms operate on subsidies and dont do any actual farming. They use tax payer money to import produce from foreign growers that they "partner" with. They only grow basic cover crops that they turn under every year to grow more cover crops.
@@michaels.ramsey7803 also a fact that’s not an easy job that anybody can do and farmers are basically the only ones that can do it. Love honey. Thankfully we have a honey producer just about a mile away from our farm. I've heard that the closest produced honey you can get is the best for yourself. His bees will be great for our orchard, and flower farm.

Your better than me all my ground was out in no till corn and bean's then the farmer's abandoned it and it turned into a mess the owners had me brush hogging it then got sick of paying so I started farming it for free
Since you can’t use chemicals on that place what about growing organic corn you are going to be cultivating anyhow! That is if you have a market for it!
I agree with people throwing trash into field I have two big fields on either side of my house I own and every year before I mow I gotta clean up so much trash

Funny story from a beekeeper friend from Pennsylvania. He often got city folk to stop & buy honey. One day he had such a guy stop and insisted that the beekeeper reveal his honey recipe. He just "knew" that it was a conspiracy to pull one over the city folk for the high price of honey.
In my area all the part time lake cabin people from the city are now blaming the farmer with feilds close to the lake blaming his manure spreading is what is bringing down and killing the lake yet all their grey water gets pumped into the lake and the thousands they spend on their lawns isn't the problem or their septic systems feet away from the lake. Instead of fixing the problem themselves they are just trying to use the farmer as the scapegoat.
Credit to you, that field already looks 100x better. You are too decent though... if it was me I would have unloaded the muckspreader off that trailer and loaded it and the trailer with as much of the rubbish and pipe as possible for the old tenant to take away 😉 If it's his crap, why should you have to deal with it? Hope the landlord will appreciate the improvements to their land 👍
gotta love the "topsoil removed" claim... why would a farmer remove topsoil from a location they're going to plant?!?
I was wondering that too.
There's a story that the guy that started Cumberland Farms scooped a good layer off a bunch of really good fields and sold the top soil in my area. Everybody says the guy was a crook.
Pity they weren't so quick to jump on the previous tenant for the mess he left.
the previous tenant is why they jumped on him i would say.
You cleaned up their mess and they are complaining? It is going to be a problem with the owners if that is the way they operate. I would think twice of continuing with them. Better off sending them a bill for the work you did and split.
