+osimnod Thanks for the comment. Coinicidently I was out riding Mike's bike today...he still has it, over 30,000 miles now. It's pretty much perfect and he's still enjoying it very much. I'm trying to get him to make a video about the ownership experience of an F800GS.
+hedlundk I see there is one fellow with a 20k mile review (Adam Rodriguez) but hearing from Mike would be great info. There's another excellent review of the Honda RRP CB500X by Juan Browne (blancolirio on YT) as another worthy mid-weight ADV rig. As for me, I bought a used Aprilia Caponord in 2012 thinking I would use it for ADV but it's far too heavy for my skill level so I began developing some off-road skills on a used KLX 300 enduro and will be trying my ADV riding on a used KTM 640 ADV next month. Cheers!
+osimnod sounds like the 640 will be perfect for you. The 690 Enduro is another popular bike. I think you did the right thing by the KLX 300. A buddy just got a CB500X and I've been following the Ralley Raid package that is out. I'm looking forward to seeing that in person. What I like about the F800GS is that you could use it as a good sport touring bike as well.
The KLX 300 has been perfect for me as a first dirt bike - tractable, predictable power, reliable and low maintenance. Check out blancolirio - Juan has his CB500X set so it can be either ADV or one-up sport touring. He's even questioning keeping his R1150RT. He's a pilot and makes informative videos.
stumper92 I've ridden this bike a few times on the dirt roads. The biggest difference with the KLR is the smoothness. Although I found the throttle to be a bit jerky the overall package is much smoother than the KLR. The power is impressive, but it's also a heavier bike and a bit more challenging to steer around some of the corners. I think it would be a great choice for some long distance adventure touring.
Why doesn't he use the can bus system for tank bag? Would the can bus system lack the power for the tank bag? Or is it just ability to run jacket and bag simultaneously.
Well-done review on a notable mid-weight ADV rig. Great to see how others are making the bike and electronics work and give other riders ideas.

+osimnod Thanks. I did watch the other video you mentioned and found it really informative.
Great review of the mods he's done. Thanks for posting!
Excellent review. Thanks for posting the links, I love that hard luggage it looks great on the 800.
Very nice Setup! I`m also happy with the Garmin Montana
Is that the mighty Tick sitting on the left handlebar?
Cool bike review. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment; glad you enjoyed it and hope you found it helpful.
I'm a KLR owner as well. Its interesting to get a perspective on other dual sport bikes out there.
