Matt is easily one of the most interesting people in the Hardcore/Metalcore scene, super glad to have an extended insight into him as a person like this.
I love how you'd never guess he has a southern accent based on his vocals. Exact opposite of radio country music where they shove their drawl down your throat, while they can't drive a stick.
guy is more mature levelheaded than most folks his age... when he mentions long game vs short game, he definitely has a sense on how people mostly behave now and can call it out. very humble and honest.
Im a lil late to the party but I just wanna say this was definitely one of the funniest, most honest and inspiring podcast interviews I've ever listened to. Not exaggerating because most podcasts suck lol I'm a huge fan of Kublai Khan and Matt is just the realest dude, hope I get the chance to meet him when their down here in Texas pretty soon. Good shit bro just subscribed
Not me muting everything just to watch this interview while I work at the radio station...That was one of the most chill podcast episodes I've come across in a while
Pumped to have found this podcast what a solid dude, literally started our band with a cover of Kublai khan song the hammer, I would love to play with Kublai khan
Dude i love this band but after this interview i love the band even more because ive never felt like im the same as a person as this guy. Matt is fucking cool
Kublai Khan is easily my favorite band right now. Haven’t even watched this yet, but Mac Miller is my absolute favorite artist ever, so to hear the intro on this AND it’s an interview with Matt. I’m sold. 🤘🏼❤️🔥
Lead singer jumped into the crowd in Arizona in 2019? Bro is talking about the Architects and Thy Art Is Murder show at the Van Buren I think. I was there. The guy who jumped off the balcony was the singer of While She Sleeps.
So interesting to hear his perspective on his own band. "Find other music to listen to" haha I totally get where he's coming from and I agree with being diverse, but it's weird to hear all the same
These boys came out swinging with the Mac Miller not even a second in. Instant subscribe, good job brothers lmao. Never wanted to comment on a video this fast in my life🔥🔥🔥🔥😂
Met him in LA cause he was selling his band’s merch before AND AFTER the show. Got a picture with him and talked to him a bit. Awesome dude I wish I wasn’t so starstruck lmao
Very interesting how all the band members are all doing trades and stuff while touring. I might be moving to Tampa soon so I hope I can get a tattoo from Matt lol
The heroine and general drug addiction thing is a really hard thing to argue because it's either give those people safe places to feed their addiction (which I don't agree with either) or go back to the Reagan era of criminalizing it all to shit. No one wants to find other solutions because the feds can't profit off of other solutions.
This was really interesting but it sucks that Matt has already lost the drive to make music, he's got an awesome voice for it...one of my favorite sounding vocalists and Ive listened to metal for decades...smh
Matt is my friend and barber. we like to sit down and have conversations with interesting people. the podcast wasn't necessarily about KKTX but Matt and his life.
Honestly I feel like he should hit up Tyler Nolan for tattooing and shit (the dude was on Ink master) he's does amazing work and I'm sure they would vibe
I’m a little late but texas roadhouse is actually from Indiana lol. Right across the river from Louisville and funny enough 15 mins from the tavern Papa Johns was started in.

I live in Jacksonville Florida Tampa Florida is where it's at went deep-sea fishing out there not too long ago is different from Jacksonville Jacksonville to me as a dump haha.
I disagree with the idea that people choose to be addicts. My cousin died from heroin 6 years ago and he didn't choose to be an addict. It started with smoking weed with friends that popped pills occasionally. Those friends who popped pills occasionally didn't know they were addictive (sounds dumb but lots of 16-19 year olds believe dumb shit) and convinced my cousin to do them. Cousin got the plug for pills and started doing them more, eventually developing a physical dependence to opiates. Once pills became harder to get he realized every time he runs out he gets sick. He asked dealerman for something that would keep him from getting sick while he waits for more pills. Dealerman tells him heroin is pretty much the same thing as pills it's just cheaper because it's not made in a lab. Pills go up in price due to high demand and low supply, my cousin can't afford pills anymore and is forced to use heroin to not feel sick. Heroin can be tricky to dose at times due to fentanyl and inconsistent potency. Cousin is a closet heroin addict and has to hide when uses. Cousin unknowingly gets some hot shit one day causing him to mis-dose leading to an overdose. My cousin didn't choose to be an addict or ruin his life with drugs, and he would still be here if he had a place he could have used safely. What I can say is that he did choose to stay an addict. He knew he was addicted before he died, had access to rehab, and didn't take it. I don't think having safe drug use areas encourages people to start using drugs or to be addicts, it just keeps them from potentially dying from them. I'd rather someone keep using and have more chances to get clean then die early in an alley without another chance to get clean. Otherwise, great interview! much love!
As far as the safe shoot up facilities: it has good parts about it keeping the needles off the streets, could help on the spread of diseases. Drug addicts aren’t going to get sober unless they want to at the end of the day.
This conversation around addiction missed the point that providing needles was specifically to aid in reducing withdrawal symptoms that lead to worse public behavior in states of psychosis, where the piece of shit levels are high in the eyes of the public whether or not they're dangerous. At it's worst they're reducing abuse by creating neglect, and as someone raised by two sponsors who are unstable white knucklers, no one can claim to know what works for other people. You're young dude, you gotta get off the high horse of psychological strength and be more empathetic towards the reduced agency age we live in, to step back and remember the attention deficiency age we have created that you're working in has a chemical impact on the nervous system that holds our spirit. Our ability to maintain a consciousness over choices has drastically reduced due to these systems. You sound bitter towards the weak willed because of how they've hurt you, and I hope that heals. Be well. I hope you learn to understand other people aren't like you.
SOMETIMES YOU GOTTA LET THE ROUGH END DRAG.
My only problem with that ending is I wish it rode out longer. Shits dope
One of the hardest breakdowns and lyrical deliveries. Matt’s vocals are so vicious
Dude the way he says drag. Ive litterally restarted that chunk of the song 10x in a row trying to yell along correctly. So bad ass

“If the lead singer has a certain sound you’re not replacing that” as he talks to the person who is best example of that lmao
He’s a good example but the best example is a bit of a stretch. There are definitely people that have more recognizable voices in the metal scene.

Same except I only lived in Texas for 6 months when i was a kid and then had to move back to my home country Finland
One thing ive noticed in the metal community is that all these dudes in bands are so unapologetically themselves. So cool to see
Matt don't give a fuck
Part of why I love metal and feel so in tune with metalheads.
