How many jars fit in the Carey Pressure Canner/Cooker when using the pressure canner feature? How to place the jars & water line My experience with using the Carey (NO... Do not use the white lids during canning process. This was only demonstrating jar placement) 👍🏼 PLEASE - follow updated manual for increased water measurements

Brilliant! This is an important step, to align the jar to vent opening, in the process. Thank you. I havent seen these tips in other videos. 👍🏻
I just ordered this canner 10/2621, and I really appreciate your tutorial I would’ve never thought about the vent position thank you for taking the time to do this.
Thank you. If you plan on using it for pressure cooking as well, be sure to check the valve after each use, to make sure there is no food debris in it 👍🏼 if you’re on FB … join Carey pressure canner cooker
@@azaleaacres Thank you for that reminder and no I’m not on any social media otherwise I would thank you
@@donnastormer9652 this is a good How-to video. Though it is three years old… be sure to add updated water amounts - ruclips.net/video/pYeQPnW3XFA/видео.html
This jar placement video is helpful. The instructions have been revised, and say to use 8 cups of water.
Thank you. I have not had any issues.
Yes, I made note in my pinned comment and video descriptions. 👍🏼
EXCELLENT presentation! Thank you. Great for beginning canners.
This was super helpful on how many jars using the different sizes and the placement of the vent valve ! Thank you
Perfect video! I'm trying to decide which to buy and you have helped me with that. Thank you!
You have done an excellent job in demonstrating on how to fit your jars in the canner 😊
My Carey just came an hour ago. So this video gave me good info. Thank you.
I now got my carey also this is great info thank u
I really appreciate your tutorial. I am attempting to do this for the first time and I haven't had a courage to start yet. I purchased mine a couple of months ago but I realized I needed a power converter for NZ. So I've got one and I have been stacking up on bottles as well which they are not readily available here. It's been an expensive exercise but, I think it's worth once I start, I think :)). Thank you.
Very useful and clear info. TYVM.
Great video showing this canner!
Thank you thank you thank you this really is going to help I'm brand new at using this machine I love it so far.
I hope you enjoy it. Check out ‘mini slice of farm’ as well. She has a good video on using it 👍🏼 and ‘stocking my pantry’ , she has a comment below. There’s also a fb group ‘Carey Pressure Canner Cooker’
I bought a Nesco canner, so thank you for the information because I'm new to canning.
Your welcome. I was too until I bought this. There’s a Facebook group called Carey Pressure Canner Cooker. Plenty of help there .
I apologize for not answering questions - I have been logged out of this account for several months - busy with life and especially our new grandson.
Granddaughter on the way.
I hope many of you were able to find the answers you needed.
And yes… im aware of the new water measures. These were adjusted by Nesco after I purchased the unit.
Thank you. 😊
Very helpful! Thank you so much!
Great tips. I'm just learning to can and have this same canner, so this was quite helpful. Let's stay in touch.
Most helpful. Thank you
Very Helpful....Thanks
This was super helpful! I appreciate you trying this. I'm thinking that it would work to have two layers of wide mouth half pints. I need to experiment and see, because it would be nice be able to process more at a time.
Thank you so much for this! I couldnt fid literature on this. Blessings. 😊
Informative video just subbed thank you.
Thank you so much.
The new instructions say to use 8 cups of water for pressure canning. I wish I could put a link to the new instructions, but I can't find it on line.
Julie Slack - yes. Although I’ve never had any issues with the water level, always follow the instructions in your user Manuel.
THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you for showing that the regular mouth jars fit as well. That’s what I came here to see. I wonder why it only recommends widemouth jars? The jar placement in relation to the valve never occurred to me. Where did you learn this or did you just figure it out yourself? I have a batch of widemouth jars in my canner right now and I didn’t check the valve placement. But I never have so I’m sure that will be fine. However, I did notice that the regular quart jars I have are slightly taller, so the valve placement is probably more important with regular mouth jars.
just bought the Nesco brand, TFS
The measurements on the canner inside pot are for cooking food when pressure cooking meats or steaming vegetables or rice. For pressure canning its always 8 cups water using a measuring vessel.
I was also told 8 cups water when pressure canning any size jars.
Can you used the canning rack on either side? Thank you!
The Nesco I got this year, its manual says 8 cups of warm water, do you know why they change from 4 cups to 8 cups?
Have you found that it makes no difference whether you use widemouth or regular.
Thank you for this vid. I read my handbook and it said to only use wide mouth jar. After reading that it made no sense to me. Do you happen to know why don’t want you to use small mouth jars.
Thank you
You can use both regular and wide mouth jars. It’s about fit and quantity.
Is it okay for jars to touch each other?
Have you used the water bath/steam option? I need to know how much water for that option. Thanks!
Leslie Hobbs - for a water bath you’ll want to cover the jars with inch of water above. For steam... I’ve only started using steam for canning. Processed some pineapple last week. I used 6 cups of water for steaming 5 pints It worked great. Less hassle than the water bath.
Thank you for these tips. I’m thinking about getting the Nesco/Carey but I was a bit worried. After seeing your video, I feel much more comfortable. Is it still holding up well for you? Are you still using it?
3 yrs and still works great. From slow cooking to pressure canning.
@@azaleaacres Thank you
Why is one can always empty? I want to try this but pressure cookers seem daunting to use.
If you have left over stew, that has been completely cooked how long would you can large jars for. Do you need to do the full 90 minutes on fully cooked food? Thanks
Yes. 75 minutes for pints. 90 minutes for quarts
@@azaleaacres thanks
Did you have any experience with the Carey going to off position before it cooks the full requested time ? Thank you
Do you mean if it’s set for 75 minutes it shuts off before 75 minutes?
Or are you talking about the 10 minute exhaust before the timer starts?
( no for the first, but yes on the exhaust time )
Sometimes the exhaust only last 7-8 minutes.
Thank you for the response 😊 I figured it out my fault . Started setting in the wrong sequence Then because it got hot before shutting down . I reset it should have waited till it cooled . Worked fine after the unit cooled and the product cooled . Thanks again 👍👍
Can you put just 3 pints in the arey or does thecanner have to be full
You can put three. Just be sure they are steady and won’t tip.
Otherwise add another jar 🫙 of something. Even if it’s just water.
I lost my instructions on how to use THIS canner... and I'm a new to canning. Can you give me some direction on the vent positions to start? Is it open to build pressure or off. Any instructions will put me in business! TY so much. I'm lost!
Set your valve to exhaust leave it there canner will start to blow up steam and display E10 wait for the 10 minute countdown to E0 maschine will beep 3 times than flip to airtight. Make sure you use correct valve for you location altitude. Check if you need black valve at 10 pound pressure or green valve at 15 pound pressure. There is lots of tutorials on youtube on how to run the carey
Hazel L. - so sorry I didn’t see this earlier. I hope you were able to get some help.
dagmar mccormick - thanks for posting 👍🏼
Do you really use the jars with white plastic lids.while canning???
NO! This was just for demonstration purposes on jar placement. 👍🏼
Love canning ...can not be enough instruction. It's a dying art and next generation needs to be exposed to this. Good on you. 👍
I think to China, cup means Insert. Even so if these line were metric, the numbers are still wrong. Not just Nesco others like my Emeril Lagasse Canner has lines that do not make sense. My instructions say 1/4th the way up a jar.
If you combine 8 oz and 4 oz jars, aren't the processing times different for each size?
No they process at the same time. It’s quarts that process longer.
@@azaleaacres Thanks. I just assumed that each size jar has it's own processing time. What about the pint and a half jars? Same time as pint jars or same as quart jars?
@@carolr4871 pint and a half are same time as quarts
@@Myfavorites877 Thank you.
I'm using mine for the first time and some steam is leaking around the lid, is this normal?
Not in my experience
Is the silicone seal placed properly?
Is the lid locked?
IN YOUR PINT AND1/2 JARS HOW MANY OUNCES? AMAZON DOES NOT CALL THEM PT. AND A HALF.NT TO BUY THEN TOO AMAZ SELLS THEM 240Z. AND 27OZ. DONT WANT TO BUY TOO TALL THANKS
Half Pints are 8oz. Pints are 16oz
Quarts are 32oz.
The tall 1.5 pint widemouth are 24oz.
Those are hard to find these days.
My manual says to use wide mouth qts and pints.
You can use regular or wide.
How many pint jars can you have?
5
Cary now recommends 8 cups of water for pressure canning.
Yes, please follow directions in the current manual
I could not fit 4 quart jars in my carey caner
That’s strange. What brand jar? Just wondering if your jars are perhaps a bit shorter and bigger around My quart jars a Ball Brand. I’m not aware if carey made two sizes of canner
8 cups now instead of 4 due to boiling dry issue.
Although I never had an issue with the original instructions… please follow the updated manual 👍🏼
I can't fit the jar lifter in to get 5 pints out
Wide mouth jars don’t leave space for the jar lifter. If you place an extra ring under one jar, it will raise it just enough to grab. 👍🏼
@@azaleaacres Thank you so much!
Why am I easily fitting 6 pints with almost enough room for 7?
My Carey booklet says 8 cups of water.
The manual has been updated since I made this. Please use current manual.
the newer instructions say 8 cups water for pressure canning.
Yes
Mine does not hold 4 quarts no matter how I try.
That’s strange. What kind of jars are you using?
now in the book it says 8 cups of water
Yes
No matter how i arrange them I can only manage to fit 3 quart jars in this canner.
Did you figure it out?
Curious if it was the brand of jar 🫙
You can fit seven tall skinny pints.
My instructions says 8 cups…
Yes. The suggested amount of water was increased after I purchased my unit.
No! No! No! You Are Going To Get Someone Hurt! How Irresponsible can you get? The canning book that comes with the Carey clearly says for pressure canning to use 8 (eight) cups of Hot Water, Not Four. Take this video down or correct it immediately. Pressure Canning is not fun and games and there is Zero room for errors like this! I have this canner and use it regularly.
I appreciate your enthusiasm…. But perhaps you could read my pinned comment. I clearly state to check the updated manual about the amount of water. This video was done before that update. (But…I never had an issue with the lesser amount of water originally suggested. Thanks again
