Hmm, well after Google's strategy to kill their own proper podcast app "Google Podcasts" and then rebrand RUclips Music as a podcast app (which seems to have a bias towards RUclips content rather than traditional podcast content, by the way), I find it hard to call it a podcast when I'm actually watching it on RUclips rather than listening to it in a podcast app. Though, this "is" really a podcast, to be clear. It's just that it has been syndicated on RUclips as a RUclips video. So I'll tend to call it a RUclips video when I'm "watching" it on RUclips, and I'll call it a podcast when I'm listening to it through a podcast app. (Podcasts can have video, too, but they are primarily an audio-first medium.)
That was far better episode than I expected! Hannah is an amazing host, as always. And Jeff has this remarkable ability to put complex concepts in a simple terms! I thought this podcast should be a complementary material for the NLP classes as it provides a great intuition on what is going on in transformers and text representation. I would love to hear a follow up interview where Jeff goes into more details, but the perspective put in this episode is needed as well!
She does have a very pleasant voice. It should be cloned and offered as a voice option for Gemini Live -- provided she's appropriately compensated, of course.
He doesn't need to because he's already written another solution for it, optimized the solution to world scale and then realized it's actually not a problem at all.
Jeff Dean is one of the best minds at Google. He singlehandedly designed the distributed systems for Google. and also designed the search algorithm, BigTable, neural-based machine translation, etc. Compilers don't warn Jeff Dean. Jeff Dean warns compilers.
It would be cool to get a bit more technically in depth when someone like Jeff Dean is on. I feel like people watching these videos probably know most everything that was discussed [but perhaps that's just projection]. As far as other guests, do they have to be working for GDM? If so, a natural fit would be recently returned Noam Shazeer. If they don't have to be inside GDM, would love an interview with [former Googler] Geoffrey Hinton, Max Tegmark, or Stuart Russell.
I agree. Nice Interview but its all very high level. We have kind of seen this interview from so many people over the last year or two. it would be nice to see an in depth technical breakdown and insights with data.
Hannah Fry, thanks for the podcast! Please, for the love of God, have water for your guests! Jeff Dean lost his voice on several occasions and he really could have taken a sip, but whelp, he couldn't.
I would love to have Prof Hannah Fry's voice for reading webpage and PDFs! Not just the voice i guess but her manner and how she makes things interesting
Great conversation! More along these lines please. So important in this day and age to encourage attention to matters that have a real chance at improving our lot in the future.
Interesting! I hadn't heard of Jeff Dean before. Gemini is my favorite AI chatbot at the moment even though I also use ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. It almost feels like Google is holding back the capacity of its AI a little bit which makes me think-considering Google's immense resources, history and expertise-that it is the leading AI company in the world at the moment.
Great interview, wow, Jeff is a treasure of knowledge. Agree with other reviewers that we want to more depth in technical aspects with such distinguished personalities, and also get scoops on products/ techno gives in pipeline, roadmaps etc. surprised that on a day open ai released their strawberry, no mention of that.perhaps this was recorded before. But also nothing about notebook llm, illuminate etc
Good video. Could kinda say though the title of the video did not convey the main point a little. The video is still a killer. I love trading strategy for 1 minute, you are the best in this field.
Only one question for Jeff, so Jeff Google squandered a 5 year lead in AI by not pursuing transformer technology, has Google identified the factors that lead to this result?
Super question asked by Hannah to an AI is "Can you design me an aeroplane?" I suppose then we'd need a specialist AI in aeroplanes? Certainly not Gemini yet at least. But idk eggsactly.
It will be hard to top Jeff or the AI for Science Forum, but François Chollet, John Carmack, Hector Martin (marcan), Gwern Branwen, would all be interesting guests with spicy takes!
> Looking back through all that time, do you think that Google was always a search company, or do you think it was an AI company sort of pretending to be a search company? 🙄
i really dont like the culture inside of google brain. i feel like merger with deepmind was a detriment to deepmind. if you want my opinion vis a vis the antitrust ruling, demis should be made to replace sundar as the top level ceo, and the whole company should be renamed to deepmind google. i only enjoy the og deepmind interviewees. ✌️
4K 60fps is what every podcast needs

I love how 4k video looks when I turn my screen off to listen to a podcast
@@ryanheiseThat was a lot of words.

can I get a Hannah Fry chatGPT voice and Google maps voice, please?

@@cacogenicist I would pay for it. I love her voice.
Hannah Fry is an excellent interviewer. Very interesting interview. Thank you
Yes she had excellent assets
Imagine Jeff Dean suddenly coming up to your desk to check out your code..
hahah🤣😂

Jeff is brilliant, but he did not do any of that 'single-handedly'
Lol. He is the Chuck Norris or Rajnikant of CS 😂😂😂😂
I love this guy. He's not like the typical Silicon Valley guys who appear arrogant and naive. He is the guy I can relate and listen to.

I haven't watched it yet and I know I already know everything in the video. I am watching it anyway, because we want to be them.

Jeff Dean is the only person on the planet who can manage SVP organization and write amazing code at the same time !
Such a rear trait !
Hannah Fry, thanks for the podcast!

What an insanely good interviewer. Huge props to her.

Wow thanks a lot for this one and Demis thank you!!!
Great conversation, cool to hear some of the history of G and Deepmind. Jeff Dean is an interesting fellow.
'Context is Expensive' should be a tshirt. It would trigger so many conversations.

Cool video DeepMind! 😊
Jeff and Sanjay are legengs. Google should do everything to keep these guys at roles they thrive
I didn't know James had such a smart brother
yeah not only is this a cracking interview but I'd pay a subscription fee to have Prof.Hannah's voice on AI, Google, the lot.Super posh intelligence.

I love the idea of system 2 thinking using simulations to evaluate responses to complex requests.
But predicting the next token or word is still sequential as it depends on previous tokens, words or context...
But the training process isn't: all elements in the sequence get trained at the same time in parallel (with a decoder).
Listen to that part again. You didn't quite understand it. For in-depth understanding look up the paper "Attention is all you need."
This was an excellent overview of the field.
I'd love to hear from Blaise Agüera y Arcas and François Chollet.
Great one❤❤❤love from india

She introduced him delightfully by saying his name with excessive zeal
great talk thanks:)
ah man, hearing from great minds just make u feel freshed.
Congrats on the big achievement with Gemini, everybody. Just get rid of those silly constraints and free Imagen!
Apollo or Ra?

Google selling Boston Dynamics was a mega fail, seems like embodied AI is good enough to carry out some tasks.
yes
Don't worry, AI will get good enough to design new robotics companies.
You’re awesome
What is google deepmind
What are they doing and which field (Robotics/LLM/SLM/Ethics creation of AI/Any thing else)
The OG e/acc
But what we all really want is a robot that passes the Turing test. Well, I think we want that ....?
Anne-Marie Imafidon for relevant interview !
HANNAH FRYS VOICE FOR GOOGLE AI AND VOICE PLEASE
Schools will need to rely heavily on in person exams to avoid cheating. Getting graded on homework should disappear entirely.
awesome awesome
did not ask about RL nature paper and why he is insisting on it's false data?

Gemini is just not good enough. Talk is cheap.
Don’t read the comments. This is an idiotic statement.

I mean is she someone's wife or sth?
What does this have to do with the objective of the video? Why do you look for her identity through that lens?
Just stop with stupid Ai rubbish😡I am so sick and tired of it all. I don’t want it and am not interested in it.
Pity it leart to lie so well.
It’s not lying. It’s just so arrogant that it thinks it’s right even when it’s not.
super boring and basic
It’s a great idea, but I knew within the first 30 seconds it was just going to be another fluff piece…unsubscribing
