The thing about Andy is even though you may think he sounds a little like " Satch or Vai" there really is no comparison, because his total natural feel, & emotion, & sheer attack of the instrument is just off the charts! He can shred, he can play slow blues with tons of feel, & jazz/rock with tons of feel. The chromatic runs he does are insane. Every penny you spend on Andy is worth it. He has this kind of fire & emotion in every song, fast or slow. Deosn't matter, it's just how he plays!
Anything you buy of his is this good if not better! He has so many good songs! His new record "Resolution" is such an accomplishment in a guitar world that is full of digital, because it is stripped down, with one guitar through & through in trio format. His tone is huge. Do yourself a favor, & let his music continue to change your life, it did mine after 19 years of playing, & it has made me 10 times better because everytime I listen to him, he makes me play better!!
To those who say Andy has "no feel" or "only shreds" or whatever...I am a professional guitarist in the Dallas area, and I've played and/or worked with Andy on a few occasions, and I can tell you that Andy is a complete musician. He gets great guitar tone, can play many styles convincingly, and always comes up with perfect guitar parts when working as a sideman. He and I just recorded a live album with singer/songwriter Curtis Stephan, and it was a joy. Andy is awesome!
his 'cry for you' live song is probably the very best guitar solo I have ever heard, he playswith bags of feel! I don't like to compare him to Vai or Satch, but he's as good as anyone, this is a great vid too!
Having listened to the recording several times, I thouroughly dig that he doesn't "stick to the script" here. While the main melodic content is still there, there are a LOT of variations in Andy's approach to the song on this particular cut. I think that that really demonstrates how talented he truly is. He's not just re-hashing what he already cut to tape; yet what he just played live is good enough to be released on an album. (One take! ...Live! ...Wow!)
Timmons has been a studio musician for a while, so i can understand he can play in most "heard-before" styles. Said that, it's one of my favourite guitarists
@Goynes42 I too am from DFW and have know Andy since 1989...He is as humble as they get and just a total musican...I have been in awe of Andy for 1/2 my life...
@jspiolo My name is Rob, I grew up in Arlington Texas, graduated with Rex Brown and Vince Abbott. My x in college turned me onto Andy in 1989 in Denton, texas where he was a music major and to his andy Timmons band. Soon after he got the gig with Danger Danger....Andy is a good friend, humble as hell and a virtuoso of the highest order. He still lives in Dallas and I see him and his show every now and again.....if you want more check out Danger Danger vids.....he is just gifted,
i find myself back here often... just nothing fucking compares to this... such a master with that shit... all u young guitarists should pray you are half as good as this when you peak
it's all about what pleases u'r ears more. i like Satch's style more. but i dont consider one really better. Satch's got a little more guitar vocab. there's no competition between them anyway... most of these elite guitarist respect each other's works and no doubt still pick up stuf from each other.... cheers to all who enjoy good guitar playing. not the rubbish we've been getting...
I wish people would get it through their thick skulls because I'm tired of hearing arguments about my two favorite guitar players (Satriani & Timmons.) I'm from Texas and I've seen them both live. Andy is a studio musician!!! The next time you want Satch on your next record, can't get him, call up Andy; I'll bet he'll do it for the right price.
Awesome guitar player...he's definately up there with Stach and Vai, he might not be as groundbreaking as both of them were (and still are), but he knows his voice and sticks to what he does best, and man, does he rock!! Hope he's on the next G3, he's got a new album so...
We didn't record video...somebody might have had a camera at the concert, but not us! The album is slated to come out in either November or December of '08. Be forewarned--it is NOT a "guitar" album...Andy and myself each only had one solo apiece that night, and they were short solos at that. We were mostly in the background, since it wasn't our album anyway. Still, a blast! Amazing tone that man gets.
Please dont compare guitarist in such level...Both are great! Both of them have recorded few masterpieces, have unique sound, unique phrasing in songs, great techique, feeling and inspiring guitarists all over the World.
well, not everyone can enjoy those crazy speed-picking-stuff solos petrucci does...but EVERYONE MUST enjoys some of his solos like in Forsaken, Damage Control and Glasgow Kiss
I know it. He uses stock cruisers and a custom pickup that sounds VERY close to a dimarzio breed NECK, so not the bridge version. Mahogany body helps, and his amp and fingers.
he does thats what i says on the ibanez site anyway .... hotrails i thought where just the type of pickup i didnt realise that it was branded by duncan....eitherway yeah its a nez so its go di marzios Peace Brian
To me, AT is better than JS ....its in his phraseology. Joe historically has used alot of 80's modeled riffing. Very good at it and able to change into modal playing on any leve;. AT just has a "freshness" even while just shredding. I realize it subjective. Just my opinion
This guy is better than Satriani and as good as Vai without the weirdness. So underated for a reason...they are afraid of this guy. Good reason. Class act
Firs of all if you want to _heavily_ use you tremolo you have to choose FR. Otherwise a good tremolo system with good capo and good mechanics is ok. In my experience even a "normal" mexican strato with standard hardware stands in tune quite well with some tricks everyone could easily apply

I love satch and Vai but they simply don’t compare. Andy owns his instrument like no other guitarist
@@Thrasher987 Agreed, but Satch is a Maestro! World Class!! Not that Andy is not. But Satch also in a league not many are in and still successful
Anything you buy of his is this good if not better! He has so many good songs! i totally agree this is one soulful rock song right here. and damn i need more of his work he just melts my face every time i hear him
I saw him and Satriani play together in Dallas a few years ago! I thought my head was going to explode,it was fantastic!!!!!
his 'cry for you' live song is probably the very best guitar solo I have ever heard, he playswith bags of feel! I don't like to compare him to Vai or Satch, but he's as good as anyone, this is a great vid too!
He's talented, he's inspired, he's great. His name is Andy Timmons.
love the way he chooses the notes, always full of emotions and originality
lol...this is the video they played at the end of the instructional video that came with my first guitar. very nostalgic.
Just watched Andy play at the Dallas Guitar Show. He blew the roof off that place! Amazing player!!!
Temazo, siempre me pone de buen humor y de ánimo cuando la escucho
Great song, Timmons rules!
this guy ...just wowww ...he got the soul, taste, grove, technique, & intensity ...just wicked !
This guy is one of my new favorite guitarists. Recently bought his CD That Was Then, This Is Now.
I was freakin blown away keep rockin Andy!

I'm a guitar fan and this was very entertaining - no question
amazing...i love andy´s style!
last year, when andy came to brazil, i saw a beatles song before groove or die...andy kick asses
Cada vez que estoy deprimido y escucho esto me curo 100%
Mi piace davvero un casino questo pezzo...timmons lo recluto un interessante chitarrista!
It's GOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!
I went into this to check out this practice studio in Plano and his band was practicing in one of the rooms, damn he sounds good live.
great tone... great riff... great soloing... GREAT :)
Temazo,no puedo creer que ya pasaron 10 años,y nunca me canso
I like the melody....One of the best....
Briliant: - Very articulate performance from Andy!
very impressive! very melodic!
five stars!
Either I'm deaf, or this is the best solo guitar song of all time.
Yes it is, but this isn’t even his best performance of this same solo
@jspiolo

I fall in love with his playing. I would rate him 99.9999999% PErfect
ajuaaaa!!!!!! hahaha, theres no doubt that he is really having a good time.. so much fun!!!!
AMAZING is the only word to describe this song!
Seen the man-live in Dallas....he's special!!!
it's all about what pleases u'r ears more. i like Satch's style more. but i dont consider one really better. nice video... he rocks
All bow down to the tone king. We're not worthy!!
3:19 - 3:26 -- love the phrasing he's puttin' down on the lower portions of the neck.
@DanielOnGuitar
Yeah! Some chromatics. Andy loves it and it makes his music unique
Awesome guitar player...he's definately up there with Stach and Vai, he might not be as groundbreaking as both of them were (and still are), but he knows his voice and sticks to what he does best, and man, does he rock!! Hope he's on the next G3, he's got a new album so...

Man, this song makes me think about the Summer Song. Andy was heavily influenced by Satch back then.
Please dont compare guitarist in such level...Both are great! Both of them have recorded few masterpieces, have unique sound, unique phrasing in songs, great techique, feeling and inspiring guitarists all over the World.
@GuitarMaster6567 you gave me hope =D i might try it at least !! thnk u

You can buy Cruisers I just bought some from musiciansfriend. They are listed on the dimarzio website under "Strat" then "Hum Canceling Strat"

Andy Timmons Rules ... fuckin awesome
I know it. He uses stock cruisers and a custom pickup that sounds VERY close to a dimarzio breed NECK, so not the bridge version. Mahogany body helps, and his amp and fingers.
Where? Sounds fabulous to me. Why don't you just sit back and enjoy.
Nice:)
the opening riff actually bears a striking resemblance to the intro of a certain elton john song.
This song is so epic it has fKU in the end of it's link.
Mister FEELING ! with EVH !!! of course ^^
he does thats what i says on the ibanez site anyway .... hotrails i thought where just the type of pickup i didnt realise that it was branded by duncan....eitherway yeah its a nez so its go di marzios

Esta versión es mejor que la original de estudio
This version is better than the original studio

greatest...
hah yeah! Megaman has some pretty badass songs in its games to think of it. especially megaman X
1:56
Only one adjective: ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know he has a custom humbucker in his guitar now, but does anyone know what pickups he used in his hybrid-strat days?
I think he used Seymour Duncan bridge humbucker on this guitar before signing for DiMarzio and on Ibanez
i like the pitch note at 1:57 :)
indeed..!
do u have down to the wire??!
ive wanted that shit for so long
fuck! ..excelent feeling!!
This guy is better than Satriani and as good as Vai without the weirdness. So underated for a reason...they are afraid of this guy. Good reason. Class act
wow very powerful sounds its like a megaman theme hehehe...
check out the ibanez website its dimarzio i cant remember the type hot rails probably
maestro
where can I check that?: D
this would be sick on Guitar Hero III!
carpe diem means seize the day---its a phamous phrase written in latin
I believe he used DiMarzio Cruisers for a while... not sure though. Google for a bit and I'm sure you'll find your answer.
He looks like a fierce lion battling with the guitar!
yeah he'd fit right in

For a second there i thought you wrote "This guy is incredible... Nobody likes him" I need glasses heheh
