    It's tough when the injuries and/or illness happen so don't beat yourself up too much over 2023.
    I've been training with a club this year for the first time since I restarted running in 2018. Hopefully it'll get me access in to some fun races 😄 As for time based goals low 16:XX for 5k, sub 1:20 at Sheffield half and actually setting a 10k time (never raced one 😂). Sub 5 minute mile would be great too if I can find a local race.
    Good luck for 2024! 🤞🏻

    My main goal is to just remain injury free. Kept getting 3 or 4 weeks into training for a specific race and then injuring myself but still racing, being disappointed with my performance due to not having trained properly.
    5 weeks into marathon training and the strength training has helped so much, feeling great currently fingers crossed....
    Then more ambitious (for myself and my ability) sub 40 10k (pb 42:57) this year which in turn I suspect will give me a sub 19 5k (pb 19:29) and I guess biggest of all would be completing first marathon in April around 3h30

    Those time goals for 5/10k are tough, its easy to compare ourselves unfavourably with the gracile Matt Stonier's of this world. 30:58 is not hanging about. UK culture is very good at insidiously diminishing the achievements of the objectively excellent. Simply staying the the sport at moderate mileage should result in a sizeable improvement over 10k to peak age(5 plus years). Most Europeans peak around 26-32 for 10k. No reason why you can't break 29 minutes or better for 10k eventually. Sheer persistence is hugely underrated.

    Awesome videos, Cole! My big goal for the year is to get a BQ for the 50-55 age group which is 3:25, but I will likely need a 3:20 to get into to race. I’ve never ran a marathon before, but my current half marathon PB is 1:35:52.

    Good to push yourself, having some achieveable stuff in there is a good call though. Definitely helps with long term motivation.
    I've got a trail marathon at the beginning of March that I had to DNF last year because my shoes malfunctioned 😑 so aiming to get some redemption this year (in different shoes). After that, I'm going to race a 10k road race to get a proper time because I don't actually have one lol and then PB my Half Marathon. Exactly how much I aim to PB by will depend on how training goes. I am toying with the idea of entering the British Fell Champs races but I'll need to decide closer the time as that may just be a demoralising experience 😆
    I am looking to break my 5k PB this year as well, but that's scary so I'm trying to ignore it for awhile.

    • @AMostlyFunctionalJess
      @AMostlyFunctionalJess 8 месяцев назад

      Fell racing is a lot of fun! It's incredibly different to road running or even normal trail running, different skill sets required. If you ever happen to be in the Peaks, Lakes, Dales or North York Moors over the summer at one of the many village fetes that also hosts a fell race, those are probably the best ones to watch. Short and sharp so better for spectators (less time spent stood on a random hill waiting for runners to come through) and you usually get to watch the fast lads absolutely barrelling down the final descent back into whichever village it's in.

    I think you set yourself way too many goals in 2023! I would just focus on one distance for the first half of the year. I would also recommend living life to the full for your last year at uni. Honestly, they are the most memorable years of your life, so go and have fun. You won't regret it! My goals are around smarter training. More Z2 and less setting myself up to fail by expecting PB's at parkrun every week. I'd love a 10K pb but I am very generous and give myself a whole year to achieve it.

    • @ColeRunning
      @ColeRunning  8 месяцев назад +1

      I’m doing my best to enjoy myself! But sometimes after training I feel tired so I just wanna curl up in bed and watch a film rather than go out and socialise 🤣! Thanks for sharing your goals! How do you find training to zones?, useful?

    • @ebrunner1315
      @ebrunner1315 8 месяцев назад

      @@ColeRunning I can completely understand that. When I was at uni, the only running I ever did was for the taxi on a night out! So, I didn't have as many focus areas as you. Maybe just make sure you have a good night out at least once a month! Trust me, once you start working full time and have the boring responsibilities/financial commitments of a mortgage etc, you may go out even less! Do it whilst you can, as the people you meet at uni may become friends for life. Z2 training is a pain for me as I don't like long slow runs and as I live in quite a hilly area, keeping at Z2 quite often means walking. I prefer to cross train and do my Z2 stuff on the indoor bike (on Zwift). Not the same I know, but I prefer it, especially in bad weather, so it's a compromise. Looking forward to seeing your year evolve, but as it's your last year at uni, I would say focus on uni first (as you only get one shot at that) and then try and squeeze in a bit of the social alongside your training too. There will be plenty of time for griding out miles after uni too!
