Hello! I have recently been watching your videos about working on a cruise ship and I have loved them. I’m curious if 18-year-olds are allowed to work on a cruise ship. I watched a video and saw that you are allowed to but only certain positions. Do you know what those positions are? I am wanting to take a gap year after I graduate high school, get a job on a cruise ship, and then go from there. Also I live in the United States if that matters. Thank you so much
i feel like Sanji from One Piece while i'm watching this video lol, but I really wanna try this! I want to be a Server/Bartender on a cruiseship, sounds like a dream to me
I have a question.... Because it is like 9 month on and off, in not sure, when you are at home what do you do because obviously when I'm older I want my own place, but is it worth it if I'm going to be working on a cruise ship....
Great video. So if you work 11 hour days 7 days a week for the duration of your contract, how do you get time to explore the countries you visit? Do they give you a certain number of personal days?
I guess my main question is - if you work every single day for 7 months straight how do you even have a day off to enjoy whatever country you are in? “Free travel” is a big plus to working on a cruise ship but i guess i don’t understand… is it really a benefit if you’re working all day every day and can’t even go experience the country you are in? Hopefully my question made sense lol
I'm currently enrolled in a hospitality course, and because my course focuses on cruise line operations in hotel services, i looked up Filipino cruise line working experiences. Apparently, entertainers get way more benefits, better hours, and better pay than waiters, housekeepers, etc etc. It really discouraged me from ever working on a cruise ship because they mostly talked about how their health suffered terribly and how the positions are segregated by nationality. What are your thoughts on this? I hope you can give me an idea of the reality, i'd really rather be prepared than get crushed when my expectations of what it will be like turns out to be nothing like what really goes on. I'm Filipino and a woman, great formula to be scared of discrimination. I'd appreciate it a lot if you could respond. Thank you in advance!
On my cruise line I would say 60% of the crew are from the Philippines. So don't worry about discrimination. First of all unless you are in the house band, dancers or singers all the entertainment are contracted, they are not crew. Waiters and cabin stewards make good money because they get the most tips. Good waiters and cabin stewards working 7 day cruises can easily make $200 to $300 a week in tips. I have a friend that is Filipino who is a housekeeping supervisor 2 stripes and another Chief housekeeper 3 stripes. I am 3 stripes myself and once you hit 3 stripes you have your own cabin, you eat in the buffet etc. Go for it!

You are correct. Rampant is an understatement. Just crew, no guests! I know guys that have a new gf on every ship plus ones in the ports we stop. The worst offenders are the navigation staff.
Unless you have waiter experience at a 5 star hotel you could likely start off as a junior buffet steward. Then work your way up if your performance reviews are great. Once you get to assistant waiter and waiter you will get good tips. Most guests tip their wait staff and their cabin steward. If you are a great waiter you can become a head waiter responsible for an area of the dining room. They occasionally get tipped too. Then assistant maitre d, and maitre d.

@@cristinegem These series of yours really helped me decide to change into this career which involves travelling and getting to know foreign languages❤️ Can you suggest what position should I be aiming for? I'm a computer science graduate, wanting to get away from computer-related works but don't have any related experiences to the jobs onboard :(
Which course did u attend

how can i apply for it
Is the interview is hard or not?
it’s not hard . questions are more about you and your experience :)
when u apply, do they require uni diploma ?
i think so, you do need a degree or diploma in the hospitality sector
Saurang Roy I just have a vocational degree . Can I?
No days off. For 7 months ...thats too much. Make sure you take care of yourself
Hi I just found your video can you please give a website to apply?
you can search google like top 10 cruiselines, then you can submit application to each company :)
What is it like for nurses?
These are good jobs and paramedics onboard too. Unless there is a novovirus breakout.

yes definitely! sorry for the late reply. you can work in the engine department :)
@@cristinegem thank you
@@dineth2814 if you are an engineer you can end up as a 4 stripe Chief Engineer. Big job and big pay.
Hello po ikaw po ba yung babae sa mv ng december avenue?
Hey hey 👋🏼 yes po 😁
do they still hire applicants with tattoos?
They will ask you on the application form if you have tattoos. Unless they are visible in crew dress I would say no to the question.
@@burningblue1254 But, what if you will undergo to the next step which is medical exam? Wouldn't they see if you have non-visible tattoos? 🥺
@@ericapalmero48 Your pre sea medical is not done by the cruise line. I had what is known as a Mariner's Medical Certificate. This was done by a doctor in my city who is authorized to do one. In the United States it’s called a CG-719K and in the UK and many other countries call the exam an ENG1. They are pretty stringent.
and also ate pilipino din po ako gustong gusto ko talagang magtrabaho sa cruise ship pero natatakot talaga ako ang daming what ifs sakin
Hey hey 👋🏼 it’s normal to be scared hihi ako din nung first time ko. It’s a different experience and for me it was fulfilling ;) be mentally and physically prepared na :)
@@cristinegem thankyou po but im half excited nadin po kasi parang matatravel konadin yung world just like you :)

Do you hook up with your co worker? I've heard hooking up in cruise ship is so rampant
You are correct. Rampant is an understatement. Just crew, no guests! I know guys that have a new gf on every ship plus ones in the ports we stop. The worst offenders are the navigation staff.
Now how do I become a waiter on a cruise ship
go ahead and send as many applications as u can hihi
@@cristinegem yo is there a minimum age
at least 18 years old :)
