A lot depends on how the beets were grown i.e. the quality. I used to make my own beetroot juice by fermening pure beetroot juice on a sauerkraut starter, with rock salt. Organic beetroots produced a thick, almost syrup consistence, with a crazy vivid purple, "toxic" looking colour, which I had to dilute with lots of water to be able to swallow, the taste was so stong. Whilst ordinary beetroots from a supermarket produced a watery and just simply dark red colour juice. The former delivered a much more powerful punch, with me actually beating my threshold power by several watts on the first day after ingesting it. I don' believe in having to have the loading phase though. In my case if I drink a pint the in the evening, then next morning 3 hours before the ride another pint, I get the full and strongest blast of strength and stamina already on that day.
This however, doesn't last very long. Up to a week if I keep re-fuelling daily, then it fades away, or rather the muscles and the cns get fatigued so much from the additional training load that they simply can't take anymore and break down. Subsequent cycles aren't as powerful as the first one in my experience. Still it is a very potent supplement.
I'm into fermenting, ie Kraut, Kombucha, and Kimchi. When making Kraut, I usually shred some beets and mix it in mostly for color and taste. Do you have a link or info into the fermentation process you mentioned for just beets? Thanks!
There are lots of recipes on the internet. Search for Beet Kvass recipes. If I can get raw organic beets, then all I do is wash them, leave the peel on, then dice, put into 0.5l jars with a tablespoon of salt. Then fill the jar up with warm water and close the lid very tightly and place into a cupboard. In 3-4 weeks the fermentation should be over.
Thanks! There certainly are plenty of sources, but they all seem to be the same, ie salt/water/beets.@@82vitt I'm wondering if there is the same level of nitrates in the "salt water fermentation" or Kvass, as there is in the actual juice. Also, are the metals leached out of the beets and into Kvass?
I don't know, but am most certainly interested in confirming this as I am now having serious doubts whether the performance gains are worth it if there are serious health issues to be had down the road. I will do some searching on this subject and if I find something relevant will post it here.
You absolutely do NOT need to “load” beet root lol. It’s not 1995 and it’s not creatine. You can test nitric oxide 2 hours prior and post beet juice/root/powder ingestion and see the nitric oxide increase. Whoever’s telling you to “load” it is absolutely clueless in regards to the mechanism of action
According to runners world "no individual or combined effects of caffeine and beetroot-juice supplementation during submaximal or maximal running" - there are many studies that suggest that caffeine with beat juice doesn't not decrease or increase performance. I would be curious to know what your source was for that statement? Thanks
Apologies, this is an older episode, we'll try to track down any relevant research articles. Cheers!
A few spoonfuls of cocoa powder mixed into your oats
Mix with watermelon and pineapple for best results
Dude, beatjuice ? It has helped me and i have notices.
I buy it, i cook it, leave it in the freeze for a day and put it in my shake. And yes, 1, 1.5 hrs before the ride.
It causes lots of uhms..
Thanks for the info about shots vs. fresh and ~2hrs prior ....
What is the word on taking beet juice after(or just daily).
And lastly, what about canned beets ?
Thanks.
We'll look into this for a future discussion :)
Is taking Beetroot Capsule daily fine?
Same question here
I read an article I think from NIH that indicated you get the same benefit in high quality capsules and powders.
We don't know of any adverse effects, but it's always worth consulting with your doctor.
@@StanislavGrabchev That's a ridiculously expensive way to use beet root powder!
Try www.vitacost.com/frontier-co-op-organic-beet-powder?q=organic+beet&ta=organic+beet
You could buy your own blank caps to make your own but I fine fruit and veg smoothies the best!
Blend the beets with coconut water, it tastes pretty good, kind of sweet. You can also then add pure cocao powder which also has similar affects to beets and it tastes roughly like a chocolate shake!
Its very earthy because it is imposible to clean the skin
What about timing of beet shots after a ride? Rather than before? Would this help recovery and adaption, or just be a waste of beet juice?
That's a great question. We'll look into this for the next podcast.
I use 1 Tbs in with my recovery drink for glucose replacement.
What about if you eat beet instead of drinking it ?
the juice is immediately and 100% absorbed by the body. if you eat a whole beet a large percentage will pass undigested by the body. unfortunately, beet is very high in sugar, and drinking just the beet juice might spike insulin. so i would recommend drinking it with a meal
GCN have a video on that. They say you can just eat it.
There is no difference in performance between the two methods of ingestion :)
TrainerRoad what about cooked beets? I love them in salads and easier to digest.
Can you explain how caffeine and beets dont mix? He mentioned pathways not meeting up
Caffeine constricts blood vessels, leading to increased blood pressure. Beets are a natural vasodilator, dilating blood vessels, leading to decreased blood pressure.
If you got the beat, you don't need caffeine
Can you share some white papers on this topic?
journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0200517 This is one from a peer reviewed open source site, sample size could be larger. I have used the concentrated form(beetit sport) which seemed to improve things in endurance type races but you can't discount plasibo.
wouldnt it be a purple paper?
Cqn i put the beets in blender with some water
Yeah you can. Tastes like dirt! Enjoy.
You sure can!
Fruit and veg smoothies!

I put hot sauce in my best juice, works great. Also may have benefit with cramps.
Supra Functional Food Bars have a Beet Bar that is amazing!
Why not just drink the beer juice 🤷🏿♂️
BEER juice?! We for sure drink that! ;)
What if I blend the whole beets and drink it, will it have the same effect?
Sure will!
Coffee trumps beets.
My watt meter disagrees.
What about beta alanine intake?
We'll be discussing this in a future episode of the podcast! :)

Now, one thing to keep in mind is that excessive consumption of beets and beet juice may cause kidney stones. It can also cause liver toxicity later in life as beets are rich in metals such as iron, copper, phosphorus etc. So don't overdo.
Thanks for the tip!
source please?
@@OlympischbriesjeNadaAverage Muliple sources can be found by searching for "Foods to avoid with kidney stones" Beets, Chocolate, nut butters, rhubarb, soy, kale, spinach are all on multiple lists including Mayo Clinic & Johns Hopkins.
Most people don't have high enough metals in their diet for a daily beet to cause problems. Probably not a great idea for someone eating keto but eating keto is a bad idea already
@@veganpotterthevegan You wouldn't know the heavy metals content in your veggies as it is very difficult to trace their exact farming origins these days. The dosages per serving may be small, but these things can accumulate in the liver over the lifetime. Eating a ketogenic diet for sport is an idiotic idea, but for the general population who aren't aiming at improving their sports performance for competing it can have advantages in the context of weight loss, mainly psychological.
Hi, is BeetElite from human n good?
We have been trying it in the office, but we have no data to back up its effectiveness.
I ordered some beet shots that have 400mg in them, will use those on crit nights. Will use BeetElite to pre-load the 6days prior. I’ll report back or email you guys if I notice a change or benefit
