I think Holy nation should be S tier. All the wars I've had with them and all the named characters and the overall lore behind the Holy nation is just too good.
Holy nation has way too many downsides they are borderline evil especially with Phoenix being in lead, he rated them correctly. They hold tactical position in economy and military power and that is mostly the reason they are even so high in the list.
the shek are probably my favorites, mostly because i find their self destructive behavior tragic but also because they’re like on of the least bad major factions, and they are always my fallback plan whenever something inevitably goes wrong with the UC and HN
Yeah, they're mostly awful to their own sanity, but not to yours so they're technically the best faction to start with. Also, being their ally don't makes you UC enemy
Yea, between the SK, HN, and UC, Shek are just the best option. Holy Nation is full of roaving slavers who will try to enslave anybody (player included) at any opportunity for any reason. Then there’s nobles who, in cities can usually be ignored but, in the outside may decide to randomly hunt/shoot at the player just for fun. And, I haven’t actually experienced this, supposedly the guards are corrupt and may demand money from the player or face being arrested (and possibly sold as a slave). The Holy Nation hate anything that isn’t male human (green or scorch). Which can be fine if you’re doing a “All human, Holy Nation crusaders” game. But otherwise they’re an issue. Anytime I pass by one with non-humans in my group they ask me to hand them over to become slaves. And they hate skeletons so much even having a robot limb can get you attacked on sight. The Shek, to my knowledge, have no real downside. Outside of lorewise being “fight crazed warriors”, they mostly just throw around insults at anybody they see as weaker than them.
I hate them with a passion, they provide nothing of value to anyone, whereas the other nations (while being horrible) provide food and materials to the world
I love the sheks. They are like the underdog vs HN (and UC). I never cheer or like being on the strongest team, I always just wanna boost the smaller factions and destroy the big ones. Plus they are close to the swamp. I dont like the north part of the map.. i hate getting eaten
The only thing i don’t like about Shek is they go ham with their Xenophobia due to difficult living conditions and stiff-necked behavior, like they are the underdog of Kenshi yet they trash talk every other non-Shek they encounter although they still accept Xenos as allied.
SHEK - Deserve S tier, they have a very complex power strugle and if you steer it in the right direction, you can make them more reasonable than they usually are. On top of that they have the 5 invincibles elite guard and you get an unique recruit - daughter of their leader Esata named Seto. Very close to the good guys. Their town is one of if not the best town to build your minibase in as their defence is impenetrable and there are many shops there and they are well positioned on the map.
Not really, depends on where your base is it's low A or high B because how hard it is to sustain yourself there with few to fertile land and need to pay tax with food, sometimes shek outcast faction will raid your base no stop, all this in early to mid game I'm talking pure vanilla

I just started my first ever game of Kenshi a couple of days ago. Went in completely blind, just the Wanderer start since that said it was the 'intended experience' or whatever, didn't know anything about the factions or races in the game even, just had a vague idea about what sort of game it was from a video or two I watched probably years ago. And because I tend to like big strong warrior ladies wherever they appear, I of course made my first character a female Shek. Now we are three Shek women (and yes, Ruka is of course among them), based out of a restored longhouse in Squin, starting to find our footing, geared up a little and at least giving those annoying starving bandits a good run for their money. Looking forward to eventually fighting for the Shek Kingdom (as opposed to mainly mining for the Shek Kingdom, and killing starving bandits), taking down their little antagonist rebel factions and, of course, that damned Holy Nation!
@@KokoplaysMB I do now! This is fine as they make the world feel more alive, but I think the Flotsam ninjas are too bland for what the lore implies they are doing, so I would downgrade them to A or even B. Holy Nation deserves S if judged on what they add to the player experience and to the world and its feel. They're probably the most worked on by the developers, they have the unique Paladin's Cross weapon, armour that interestingly exposes limbs that can be replaced by robotics while being anti-robotics, their regions are named after their god, they have one of the only green and lush places in the world, all while having so much story and world-building around them. They're clearly the favourites of the developers. They also provide a safe area for beginners to Kenshi since most people will play their first games as a Greenlander male and start in the Border Zone, and if you decide to fight them they have a lot of special characters and make an excellent story for your squad. Their excessive xenophobia will inevitably drag you into conflict with them if you recruit any non-humans, so if you like non-humans in your party the game's design tries to get you into the idea of fighting a large faction, pushing new players such as myself to experiment with major faction wars. Considering new players are tempted to experiment and inevitably you'll fail to convince a paladin to not bring your non-humans to Rebirth, it's great for pushing the player forward. They even have a lot of world states to reward your push against them.

Phoenix isn't a terrible human being. In Kenshi, like in 40k, humanity is at constant existential threat from mechanised abominations and mutants. In such a setting, anyone who says that the holy nation are the bad guys is the kind of person who would doom humanity to extinction .
But aren't women also humans though? Or people who lost their limbs but still want to walk? Or people who don't want to pray? The Holy Nations is a lot more than just humans vs aliens..
Humans in the UC and Tech Hunters have managed to mostly coexist with all the races in Kenshi just fine. It's one thing to consider factions like the Second Empire, Southern Hive, or possibly the Shek Kingdom as a threat to humanity, but to consider all non-humans regardless of afflation an "existential threat" when coexistence is already proven to be possible is a bit much.
@@KokoplaysMB when it comes to survival in a hostile world women are too important to be front line soldiers or adventurers. they need to produce and raise children to ensure the continued survival of the group. as for amputees the weapon descriptions indicate the world has been like this for centuries, and the Paladin's Cross specifically indicates the Holy Nation has been around for a long time and have a particular disdain for skeletons who may have caused the end of the world in the first place so that disdain isnt necessarily unfounded. In the end the artificial limbs make people look like skeletons to a degree, and in their religion such technology is the work of the devil.
Even if you thought skeletons, sheks and hivers are bad, slaving women is not moral.
Interestingly if you raise their relations to over 55 they wont attack members of your party who have artificial limbs anymore as long as theres still a fully human greenlander male for interaction.
