Unlocking the Old Testament Part 54 - Habakkuk

  • David Pawson looks at Habakkuk and finds that the prophet sometimes argued with God because his view of Him wasn’t quite accurate. But he clung to God until he got his answer. At first, he is disturbed by what is happening and calls on God for justice. When God gives his answer, he is further disturbed because He isn’t going to do what Habakkuk expects. David reminds us that we often come to God and want him to fit in with what we think He should be doing. David recommends what Habakkuk did - interrogatory prayer - where we ask God questions. David says when God reveals to us what he is going to do, he does so so we can tell people to get ready. Faith - both in the Hebrew and the Greek languages - is the same as faithfulness. So we demonstrate faith by remaining faithful. Habakkuk named 5 things for which God would punish the Babylonians after they had punished the Jews - Injustice, Imperialism, Inhumanity, Intemperance and Idolatry. When he stopped arguing with God, Habakkuk ‘saw the light’, and was at peace.

    When I prayed and asked God back in 2000, "What is going on?" He gave me these:
    Dan. 8:23 : And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
    Isaiah 57:1, 2: The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace; they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in His uprightness." (So, if your loved ones pass on, perhaps they are being taken away from the evil into peace?)
    Does God control the weather? Ultimately He does. Sometimes He chooses to step back and let it run its natural course, which He instituted. Sometimes He intervenes and creates it: To bless or To punish. Sometimes Satan is given authority to do as he wishes (like in the Job story). So, PRAY always, as David said after his son, who was dying, was born to him and Bathsheba "perhaps God will be mericiful".
    Actually, He gave me so much I couldn't possibly put it all down.

    27:20 I wish more Christians listened to this! I try to preach this to people and they accuse me of condemning them because they are living in their sin. That seems to be a favorite phrase of the devil, "Don't judge me". Then they proclaim God will just forgive them in the end, because they are saved.

    Once saved always saved. Even tho we may waiver and sin, but we will only lose rewards in heaven. Sinning does not mean instant hell sentance, we can still turn back to the Lord, still have faith in Him, faith in the Blood of Jesus Christ, and we are secure in His hand. Nothing can take our name out of the lambs book of life. We are to have faith and keep on having faith, but we are forever secured and saved, if we truly trusted in Jesus Christ.

      Note- I do believe in once saved always saved, but not once prayed always saved. There are people who go down to an alter and pray the sinner's prayer, not because they believe it, but 'just in case' the gospel might be true.
      Edit to add: Everyone sins. None of us is perfect. We have forgiveness. BUT! Someone who knowingly decides to keep their sin because they will be saved anyway has not chosen God, they are not "once saved" they are lost.

    "The just shall live by faith" is talking to believers not unbelievers. Notice it says "the just" not unjust! This phrase is not talking about saved from hell, it is talking about deliverance from God's temporal judgement that is occurring in there lives. It has nothing to do with judgement from hell. And "Once saved always saved" are wonderful words.

    • @DavidPawsonMinistry
      @DavidPawsonMinistry  Год назад

      You are right the Just shall live by Faith is talking to believers ........ who have not yet been saved but will be saved future
      You are at liberty to believe otherwise but your view us not shared by David Pawson and its not what I believe
      - there are so many references in the New Testament that cannot be ignored about completing the race, and not being disqualified and not falling away ...........its about was saved, am saved .... but most importantly being saved Future
      Jesus himself says in Matthew 24:14 "Because of the increase in wickedness, the love of many will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved"
      " The just shall live by faith" is not a choice .....that the just choose to be faithful.
      The just are believers who live by faith its one and the same The unjust live by faith .........just as the unjust do no t live by faith
      There is no such thing as ...........the 'unjust' shall 'live by faith'.

    you keep bringing up about how God raises up a nation to use them but every one assumes that when God said He would raise up his kingdom called by His name; would raise up to clouds ; when He clearly is talking about teaching them His Way , the Law as the water of washing of the Word, the prophets as the sheaves, the grain offering!, you offer to God in your mind! as renewing your mind! His Way is Higher, He hangs on your tree waiting for you to rise up to his Ways, if (you) dig in back of book, you dig up bones of prophets, they teach you have to keep law! {boil bones with water}; the higher & only way to Please the Father. we are on probation in Gods kingdom, on 3rd day we are kick out if we do not follow His Law! His kingdom. we do not leave earth to be raised up but understand Truth is made flesh in you! by following Way Jesus went! obedience to Law. if you are in Christ you shed your on blood Will & take on His life!, following even tho your unable to see in natural. but will be seen by all in morning of 7th day He came to body wife those that followed His Way, midnight hr, learned made ready, wise virgins stayed up & studied

    Is David quoting Chapter 1 v 13? David says it is from Habakkuk and states G-d cannot look at sin. But the verse actually says, "G-d cannot look at sin APPROVINGLY." Big difference. G-d never approves of sin. Or have I misunderstood David's teaching. I am learning so much. Thank for for posting so much of his material.

    Why did he leave out the reason the Apostle Paul would quote a phrase from the book of Habakkuk at the very beginning of his explanation of the Gospel? God gave the people of Jerusalem a way out. If they gave themselves up to the Babylonians they would be carried up to Babylon and, not only survive, but prosper. Read Jeremiah 21:3-10; 27:12=15 and 38:17-18. God was going to empty the land for 70 years. (70 years is for another prophetic reason). After 70 years they will be allowed to return, but no more kings. Then the King of kings, Jesus Christ, will enter the world a few hundred years later.
    So, Paul, quoting Habakkuk was to show that those who put their faith and trust in God's plan (even if that plan seems unnatural according to the ways of this world) would be saved. Jesus came to fulfill God's plan and bring in the Gospel. Now, all are called to get out of "Babylon" - this world, and give your lives to Christ. You will be saved.

      @jacoballen-ankins2032 4 года назад +3

      No. But it would appear to us as so, as we will see many fall about us who we were convinced were followers. But Knowledge of God, of Jesus and his saving grace is not adequate for salvation. Neither is receiving his word and putting it into practice and loving him and serving him if then we allow it to be choked out by the world. See Jesus parable of the sower and the seed. And see Jeremiah “you will seek me and find me if you seek for me with all your heart”. Only those that endure to the end were ever saved from the fire in the first place, though this is open to all who still have breath in them.

      Good question. IMHO, If you are familiar with Calvinism, one of the TULIP principles is “perseverance of the Saints” which basically says those who are truly saved will persevere to the end. That is what I think DP is saying with the concept of “continuous faithfulness.”
      But we do that not in our own strength, but in the power of the Holy Spirit.
      This does not change my belief in the “Eternal Security of the believer.”
      Hope that helps.
