This guy really knows his stuff! He helped me put up an electric fence for small animals invading my garden. I followed his instructions on sharpening my loppers and they cut really well now. Obviously I was doing it wrong.🤨 Thanks, Wayne!

What a homespun way of showing how to sharpen. In my 80 plus years, I never thought that not lifting a file on the return stroke wears out the file faster. Thanks much, Wayne.
Hi! I was searching for how to sharpen mine and thank goodness your video popped up. 😃 I have both files and I will be sharpening them today and cutting some dead tree limbs. I've had to maintain my yard and learn everything since my husband had two strokes. He liked to do the yardwork, I did too, but I guess he was afraid I'd hurt myself? I don't know, but I'm learning a lot and am excited! Thank you so very much for the video. You explained it so very well. I became a subscriber. Can't wait to watch your other videos! Thank you once again! 😀
Thanks Wayne for tutorial. I know I need to sharpen my bypass loppers but wanted to make sure I did it right. Appreciate the time and effort you put into this video.
I thought I was going to have to buy new but will try this! My dad always sharpened his but since he died a while back, I'll learn and do mine too. Thanks for showing me the right way.
So glad i clicked on your video! Very thorough and easy to understand without being so long. A lot of you tube channels try to entertain and make the instructions unnecessarily long. This was easy to understand and to the point. I'm subscribing now to see what else I might learn.
Hi Wayne! You're a real lifesaver, I totally would have destroyed my lau/wpers if I hadn't seen this video! Thank you! Now I'm gonna go cut everything over 4' down!
Boy this saved me $79 dollars!!!!!!! Thanks. I have a hand tremor so I put 2 layers of painters tape on the blade I was not sharpening to keep from banging into it. Tape residue came off when I oiled the cutters after sharpening.
Thanks. I hadn't realized that other jaw needed to be a certain kind of sharp. The additional problem I discovered was that twigs were causing the jaws to readily part from each other, making a poor cut. I tightened the four nuts (each with one or two spring washers from the factory) to make the jaws less willing to part from each other. This made opening/closing the handles a bit harder, but fixed the problem completely.
Good job! Thank you for the comment. it may help others having the same problem. Thank you for your comment and for visiting our channel. We hope you have a great day.
thank you so much. You were clear in your instructions and I believe that I will be successful in doing this! I have become a widow and the person who use to help me has also gone to live with Jesus. God's blessings on you!
Great video Wayne, I do a lot of pruning and if you want the loopers to cut like butter use the 2" Fiscars power cam action, you'll never go back to straight loopers
Thank you so much for this video...my loppers are so dull! Now, I can fix that. I have a flat file but am about to order a rattail one. Again, thanks!!!

I just sharpen my loopers with my diamond plate 1k/ 400 Are use it for My straight Razors to say bevel or fix a chip. I also use whetstones to sharpen my straight razors
I'm glad you like it! Thanks for your comment. Please consider liking and subscribing to our channel. That will make finding our other videos easier. Hope you have a great day!
Excellent thanks. I had my loppers for less than a yr and they are chipping. I haven't done enough in a yr to justify this chipping IMHO. I have some hand sharpeners: one for lawn mower, the other for smaller tools. Do you recommend using those devices that just glide over the blade?
Hold on hasn't someone scientifically tested back dragging the file not too long ago and declared it a myth that it gets damaged due to that, that the file degradation is basically the exact same? Or am i remembering it wrong? Or perhaps their experiments might be inapplicable for reason of experimental setup constraints or the like. I mean obviously lifting the file isn't wrong, and it actually helps maintain a cleaner cut to my taste, but like, what if it's purely personal preference and there's no hard reason to.
It would be best not to. You can but an angle grinder tends to be too aggressive and will remove way too much metal. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

There is a way to use it diagonally that will cut both directions.. Cheers
This is a jewelers secret to extend the life of their files.
@@bethfarmer4142pls do tell... Inquiring minds need to know🎉😊
@@kimberlycurtsinger72 always lift the file on return stroke. Knock or clean teeth out when completed with the file.
You just saved an old widows day. I wore myself out trying to use a dull tool yesterday. . Thank you for this much needed help.

I do not have a vise and found it awkward to hold the loppers open while using the file with one hand.
That is a problem but I hope you got it sharpened anyway. Good luck with your project and have a great day.
Great subject matter. Would be much improved with better audio quality, improved lighting & video quality.
