  • A compilation from my own collection of original 78RPM records.
This is a first for me so forgive me for the shoddy editing and sound quality, I've yet to learn how to digitally restore them!
Despite the video quality there's some rare gems in there not available to hear on the internet elsewhere so well worth a listen!

My mom was born and raised in Philadelphia (1928-2007), but when I played a CD of British dance band music for her, she exclaimed, "This is music I used to hear on your grandma's old Philco when I was little!" She hummed along with a few tunes.

My father was born in the 1920s and loved the pre-war British Dance Bands. He died some years ago but I seem to have acquired the same interest. Beautiful music from a classic period of British history.

Although your comment is now a year old... It is George Hyde Pownall and it's a picture of 1910. It's relatively small, only 15 by 24 centimeters. He made several depictions of Piccadilly Circus.

The British did a great job in copying american bands like Guy Lombardo and Isham Jones. Ray Nobels british band is featured in the movie The Shining with vocalist Al Bowley.
