out is an Static variable which is declared in System class and is of type - PrintStream
if out is a static variable , then how come an variable can access method (println) ?

1. int n means n is a variable of type int , And it follows Same for all "Primitive data types", Also
When we write int n ; // Variable n is created and memory is allocated
2. But for "non Primitive data type" , eg-
String s --> Here 's' is an variable "which can" refer to the objects present in String Class,
So 's' is also called object reference variable
note-
When we write String s ; // Variable s is created but memory is not allocated , And at this this stage
's' is not referring to any object !
3. Similarly out is an variable "which can" refer to an objects present in PrintStream Class ,
That's how "out" variable able to call a method.println() present in PrintStream Class

I will answer for your question.
You are accessing static "out" variable from System class java.lang package using class name. "out" variable of Printstream type is defined in System class by importing IO package in System class when it was defined. So since out variable is defined in java.lang package and this package is imported by default, so you are able to access println() method present in Printstream class without importing IO package.
