WOW this more than a lesson was a super difficult masterclass_ now I m mastering all of them :-) especially the Cluster like #3 -- it took me 3 weeks almost to go trought it
Hey, Jens. I usually watch your videos for a few seconds, then I hear something that inspires me to play guitar myself and then I play for some 20 minutes, maybe.
Jens Larsen Great...thanks! Now my workload has increased by quite a lot with these 3 note groups. 😉 It is interesting how there's really no end to learning music and finding things to practice.
4 HOURS til premiere! ? I feel like I'm at the Cannes Festival or something. Man, seriously though, your output level and quality is unmatched! Wait is this a live thing? I love them
Thanks Mac! It's not really live, but it is like everybody watching it at the same time, so if you come late you miss the beginning 🙂 And I am around as well in the chat!
Jens Larsen That's a great idea actually, you can reply to people's queries on the spot without having to stop the lesson (as you would if it was live)
Hi Jens, thanks for the video! I'm taking jazz lessons. He told me I should have the guitar on my left knee. Also I Bought Mickey Baker Books. He gave me scales to learn. I assume these scales could work like the pentatonics. Where you can add certain notes during a measure of a chord voicing.
Hello jens ! Thank you for the great content that you share . I have a question please ... I am a guitarist and i can tell about myself that i'm a good guitarist , i have a great feel but i know nothing about the relationship between scales and harmony ...i know the very basic of it ....1,3,5,7 Etc...how can i practice and learn more and more every day? ... it is probably the most important thing in music i think...thank you.
Sus Triads are just Inversions of Quartal Harmony; I don’t think I would count that as a different category. Nonetheless, great video! I love 3 Part Harmony a lot more than 4 Part (drop 2 chords) because it allows one to be more flexible.
Jens Larsen Only yours! :) Of course it’s not built in 4ths anymore but I feel that I think of it in terms of a set of notes (relating it to the harmony as well), and then you can put them in any order however you want to create interesting voicings.
Thank you very much! That progression is indeed a II V I in F, using Bb major triads for the Gm7 and then the Bb dim that are written out for the C7b9. It resolves to an A minor triad for the Fmaj7. Does that help?🙂
I'm a bit confused by some of these chords because the root note that helps me identify the chord is not present and it makes it hard for me to make sense of it. Is there a video that you recommend for tackling this issue?
Maybe take one type of voicing and start to use that to play a few pieces of music that you already know. That way you can hear how they sound and it gets easier to connect them to the chords you use them for.
Hi Jens I have a question about composing I play six string bass and play chords on it do you feel that the composing with just three note chords both Maj and minor and sus is sufficient being bass I'm into the fusion style and listen to different guitar player's , also nice lesson and playing , thanks for response.
@@kengagnon6192 Sure. It really just depends on the sound you want in the harmony, it will work for somethings and not for others, but that depends on your music and what you want, I can't tell you whether it will work :)
it ferls overhelming that i ne ed to Lean all kind of a different voicings. I just sää a boksi of Company made By Finnish jazz guitaris Teemu Viinikainen, tere Weber exercises on using only a 3th and 7th of the chord for basic. There was also a 3 no te clusters. He said that bass note belongs to between low E and A strings, chareteristics (3th and 7th) on D and G strings, and melody notes on tuo highest strings.
It depends on your level what you have to learn. If material like this does not resonate with you or motivate you to play then don't spend time on it 🙂
I think im a advanced beginner. I know how theory works and ive been learning those drop 2 voicings and trying connect those with 2-5-1 progression. maybe this is just not for me yet...
Sure, but advanced is not a very useful term. To me, if you are just learning Drop2 voicings then I would probably consider you a beginner jazz player? Don't worry about terms like that. Work on the things you want to learn and the music you like. It will be a much nicer time and probably will help you improve faster.
I think perhaps hes asking if you have a pdf with tab/notation available to download? Thanks for the cool premiere and great jazz videos, I love your channel :-)
Thank you to everybody who showed up for the premiere! Hope you like the video! Let me know what you favourite is or if I missed one!
This is such good stuff. You're making m better and I'm excited doing it. Thanks man.
Thank you very much! :) I am really glad to hear that!
Hi Jens do you have a book I can buy thankyou
@@terencepapworth6683 I have two books available on Amazon: geni.us/Y69J4
You change my guitar playing man so grateful. And your story inspires I’m 19 and it was to late to learn jazz but you definitely inspired me!
That is great to hear Noah! Go for it 👍🙂
Missed it live but enjoyed it right now. Great voicings and again a great lesson from you. Greetings from Germany, Meikel
Thank you very much Meikel! Great that you liked the video!

This is gold ! Thank you for sharing !
Thank you! :)
So awesome and useful technique for comping....thanks!
Really glad you like it Alex! 🙂
That was a "homerun" video. So much material to digest. Thankyou!
Thank you very much Paul! 🙂
Nuggets of pure gold! Great content, Jens. Thank you very much. I imagine most of this knowledge could be applied to single note lines as well...?
Thank you Glenn! I didn't really think too much about it but yes these will also work well for single notes 👍🙂
Jens Larsen

If I can type that fast 😁
We've seen you play guitar... you should be able to type pretty fast. =)
Haha! But I can't play all the wrong notes when I am typing...
Very well done and useful. Great job.
Thank you very much Lloyd! Glad you like it 🙂
Nice played, Nice sound. The last chord B Db Bb is also possible to interpret as a Db7 Tritone substitution N3rd
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for this very interesting and fun video! Sharing on Facebook.
You're very welcome Pierre! Thank you for sharing it!!

Ok. It's hard to say what your teacher is planning :) But I assume he has a plan!
The teacher is going to teach me " This Masquerade". Starting with F min 7.
Probably fine! Have fun with it!
Love your channel.
Thank you! :)

That's simple, learn diatonic chords and arpeggiosabf learn a lot of songs so you know how that works in music 👍🙂
Thanks Jens!
You're very welcome! 🙂

How many places have you seen lessons on quartal harmony where they invert the voicings? And is it quartal harmony if you do? 🙂

Hi Jens, i loved the video so much, Upper Useful! What is that beautiful the II-V-I progression you play @7.34 (it ends with Gm7 - C7b9 - F^?)?

kickin ass!

I have half a chorus of Donnal Lee already :D
5 mins more then!

What is a good jazz song that uses min/maj7 chords that you could recommend me to listen to?
Great video btw!
Solar, the one I use here? Or I hear a rhapsody? In jazz most tonic minor chords are m6 or mMaj7 🙂
My funny valentine and round midnight have pretty obvious minor /majors.
Blue Skies and Out Of This World move through a min/maj7.
Jens Larsen Jens you are my favorite RUclipsr. You have a sincerity that is infectious.
Keep on preaching.
