For the sketch sequencer, delete everything (hold shift and twist blue) and then draw a line from the lower left to the upper right side (with a few peaks and valleys in between) and you’ll get a better idea of what it’s doing.
Epic! Thanks so much. Very clear. If I may ask if you can consider doing tutorials on the various sequencers, especially Finger for both Drums and Synth, those are a bit tricky for me and also kinda tedious to edit lol.
I actually have a series going into each sequencer on the OP1- creating a track with each! Heres the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLE5yApCgtOwA-v9yrLDWD2cQRPTi2TYYP
Hey solid fan boy! Thorough as always...clear explanations .. good visuals... curve ball got me on 2 and 4 .. cheers to de mystifying the d box process .. thanks !
Liam Killen I mean I’m looking for sound design options to craft great kicks 🦵 snares 🥁 and stuff from scratch with dbox but it’s always a little flat or sounding super strange 🤣
I really dig the 2nd drums, but I felt like 4 was more for me. It almost has a Thom Yorke feeling to it. Kudos and thank you for showing how to design sounds. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Liam Killen have you heard of this OP-1 manager? If so, would you do a video on the functions of this app? It was made to supposedly be able to use it on an iPad or iPhone.
Would love if you could do a video about how to do drops or pauses when constructing songs on the op1. I find it very difficult to do this if at all. This would make transitions so much better on this instrument and I feel like it’s a real challenge that hasn’t been covered yet. Overall I love my op1 and have really enjoyed these videos, they help a ton, thanks!
Liam Killen so just speaking about song techniques on the op1. Like in techno/EDM there’s builds r n drops. In like lofi hip hop u see lots of cool pauses. I find it hard to program/create these on the op1 and it seems pretty typical of both genres but hard to execute on this wonderful machine. Not sure what techniques can be used to do these smoothly as it seems like the op1 generally excels in this type of music.
@@TheMachinesWon Often times i'll compose a loop or 2 on the op1 and then bounce that into my DAW- there you can really get into those sorts of techniques- it's just a lot easier to execute that way. OP1 is a great tool to get magical ideas started but if you want to polish up and develop a full track, it just becomes easier to "dress it up" in a DAW. IMO.
Question: Does the OP-Z do sample "transient slicing" just like the PO 33 KO? When the sampling feature was introduced a year ago, it only could slice in 12 evenly long slices. So you had to rework each slice, if you wanted "exact drums". The PO 33 sampler does slicing on the transients, so you get perfect drum slices. Sorry for this complicated explanation, but I really need to know this. thanks!
Little hint... If you press any keyboard key while you twist the orizzontal knobs in sketch sequence, you will solve the Mistery of the Misterious Sketch Sequencer...😉
Liam Killen I bought an Used OP-1 Last Year because of your videos and I also got the system 400 with some Ikea/TE Speakers 🙃. I found out the sequencer on the Modular 400 is quite limited. I think it can work better with the Modular 16 or 170. Thanks for your all your videos. They are useful and super entertaining during the lockdown
I feel you. TBH I thought it was expensive at the original price when I bought it. But now that they increased it to like $1300 USD, now THAT's crazy lol.
I have some dumb questions about how to sample like this ruclips.net/video/0lPQjmNgV_Y/видео.html I try sample on synth mode but it can't make it like that video, anyway I also try on drum mode too but it still not right one 😂 can anyone help? lol
@@LiamKillen I watched it! but it seem doesn't work probably, I pretty sure that song was sample in synth mode or I just dumb and don't know what you explain 😂😂 I'm really apologise for this thing. But If you not mind can you please explain it one more time for me😂
Make sure you’re plugged into the right input (the red one) and hit the mic button on top right that should allow you to access line input to record a sample from another source
@@LiamKillen ohhh so sorry my question is I already sample it. But I want to make the sound on synth mode that same sound but different note with continue sound 😂 do you understand in my broken grammar Like: (C note) whos- (B note) -around What I try on my synth is like: (C note) whosaround (B note) whosaround It like repeat it but I want to continue it in different note Lol wish u understand 🙇♂️😂😂

The OP-1 is literally the 80s &90s in one unit .. such fun to use . The synthesized modeling is very unique sounding
Yeah the work flow really is something else- absolutely love it
@@LiamKillen it doesn't have s massive plethora of FX .. never the less .. very nifty

Glad it’s helped!
Number 4 hits! Never got anywhere with D Box myself glad to see you making it work
It's my go to for OP1 drums now!
thanks for the d-box de-mystification Liam! 2+4 were my fav beats. couldn’t settle on one lol

Just stumbled on your videos man, great stuff. I remember when they first released the sketch synth and I had the same reaction, "WTF".
I know right? It works well for bass lines in particular though
Did you get any more insights on how to design „realistic“ drums? 😅
Like acoustic sounding drums? Not so much an option with d box lol

You can upload your own one shots into the opz. No need for splicing it up. Yeah PO’s are pretty solid for that reason.
Liam Killen thanks! but i don’t want to use a computer. i need the transient slicing option in the opz itself. so, is it implemented yet?
