    Hi it’s Taylor (orig entertainment resident army). They reacted to this on the same day as their first video and before they got to see armys comments so please forgive them for the stereotypical boyband comments 😂 I also didn’t correct them there because they mentioned wanting trying to come up with their own assumptions first. But today we filmed a special reaction video where they got to see more of the members personalities so look out for that!

    Them "getting along" is like the understatement of the century. They're literally in love with each other. The've been living together for a decade and they've had it really hard, so that has made them extremely close. I know you probably think they just blew up overnight because they're so huge. But they actually started with an almost bankrupt company and have had to earn all their success with their own blood, sweat and tears. They are also very affectionate with each other both physically and with words, in a way that can be surprising for a western person. Their culture is that way but also they are more close to each other than most friends will ever be and aren't afraid of outside judgement. It's pointless comparing their bond to any other group because I don't know if anyone has that level of love for family towards their group. A lot of armys wish they could have a friend group like that in their own lives. It's even more impressive with BTS because they still work together and are able to make good professional decisions and correct each other etc even though they're so close.

      Quite frankly any other group that dealt with all the things they’ve dealt with would’ve split a long time ago. There are groups who consisted of literal family members that didn’t last very long, so for them to have such a tight bond is incredible. I love that about them💜💜💜

      I agree! I would say it would be pointless comparing their bond to any other WESTERN group because a lot of other kpop bands do work similarly and almost as a family (NCT specifically Dream, TXT, EXO, SKZ and even rookies like Enhypen). BTS do have their own vibe though and I’m sure fame has unfortunately isolated them a lot for which they only have each other! They have said plenty of times that BTS members are their only friends (even though V and Jungkook both have groups of friends within the industry may that be actors like Choi Wooshik and Park Seojun or other artists like in JK’s 97 line).

      @@valentinaad4599 😬 I hate to break it to you but 99% of kpop and jpop groups despise each other, including those other groups you mentioned... BTS is kind of an anomaly, and that's a large part of where their magic comes from. I've been following Asian pop groups for over a decade at this point, and I've never seen another group where people in the industry unanimously say the members get along this well.

And in music wise Namjoon is also i think the most credited in bts music and creation of iit since the beginning. :) and i think bandpd made bts bc he saw namjoon and he wanted to work with him, so it really was bc of him everything

      RM is the main man he has all the responsibilities, the others help but he is the one to answer to the company, even the members have said it RM’s hard work behind the scenes that got them where they are ,they said it in 2016 and are still saying it, and how they are very thankful for him, and they have said they couldn’t do what he does as leader. he is the one who has written the most songs, the group was actually formed around him. In KPop the leader is always important, and RM is the best leader in KPop. How many times has the others gone fishing, or touring a city and RM has stay back to work. if you follow BTS you should know how much the members respect him for the job he is doing.

      I understand what you were saying, yes the group was formed around RM he doesn't make it about him like a lot of other leaders do, especially in western groups. I always say the sign of a good leader is not always knowing who it is. RM leads from the back pushing his team forward to be the best they can be, he encourages each team member to be themselves, say what they want to say and most of the time put others in the spot light not just him. Actually RM has said that he is the leader off stage and Hobi is the leader on stage. I think he is one of the best if not the best I've seen.

    The Korean age system is extremely important and plays a huge role in their culture and language. A person is 1 year old at birth AND turns a year older on January 1, regardless of when their actual birthdate is .....Korean culture has multiple hierarchies, and their language - how a person addresses another person, formally or casually - reflects this. Age is the most basic hierarchy: a younger person MUST speak to an older person differently than one their own age or younger. Considering everyone in Korea a year older on the same date each year (Jan 1) keeps this age hierarchy culture consistent.
    If Korea went by global age, they'd run into language problems. For instance, let's say you have two people born in 2000, one born in January and one born in June. By global age, the one born in January would be older than the one born in June, for about five months. The person born in June would be required to speak to his 'older' January birthday friend differently for that five months, then go back to regular speech after his own June birthday when they'd both be the same age again. But with Korean age, by everyone turning a year older together on January 1, this chaotic language issue is completely avoided

    I think the title of leader is seen and handled differently than in western "boybands" not just for BTS but kpop in general
    Their role as leader isnt about being in the forfront but taking care of the members and dealing with group dinamics and conflicts as well as handling problems during interviews and daily life.
    RM does all that, as well as being one of the writers/producers of BTS. Earliers in their western fame he was the only one who understood and spoke english well so he was often the translater for the group and he always tried to make sure all members had an opportunity to speak and answer questions.he is constantly worried about the members well being.

Another very important point, though not about leaders in general is that the members respect him very much and are very grateful for his leadership. It has been said repeatedly and by a variety of people, that RM is am amazing leader. Obviously his great leadership has a lot to do with how much they all care about and for each other. They truly love each other and consider each other family.

      I loved your comment. You're right every new reactor makes a lot of assumptions and unequivocally compares them to somebody famous they know. It's common to do this but I think it's not ok because every human being is special on its own and although they might influenced by their predecessors, they bring so much more to the table. Just think about your parents or teachers comparing you with your smart and perfect sibling 🙄.

    One of my favorite video compilations is a clip from this interview of BTS saying they have a "strictly business relationship" and then being EXTREMELY touchy and in each others' personal space (guys are a lot more verbally and physically affectionate with each other in Korea). Plus, they have been together for almost 10 years (some of them longer), lived together for most of those years. They are also really, really good at talking about things among them and conflict resolution. So, it's just a joy to watch them together. I mean, can you think of many (any?) 7-member US bands that stayed together without any change in membership for 10+ years? Each of them having roles in the group (rapper, vocalist, lead dancer, group leader, etc.) gives everyone an integral and important role without stepping on each others' toes.

    I agree with my fellow Armys, you're more down to earth and that makes you believeble. And you seem really interested. RM is the leader because he has what it takes to be one. That's why even when he's not the eldest, he's earned his place. He's got a lot of responsibilities, as he's the only fluent in English, he's the official translator for the band. He's got a pretty high IQ, and he learned English by watching Friends. But he relies on JHope and Suga because the are also very mature and share part of the responsabilities. They're all shy, and funny, and goofy, yet they've all been very hardworking, responsible, creative and supportive of each other. In all Korean boy or girl bands there's always a designated leader, and in BTS RM is truly loved and respected by the others because he's a natural born leader. He's also known for his beautiful speeches. Armys (that's us the fandom) also respect him very much and we call him our President. You won't get to know them by watching interviews. Because they don't have enough time to ellaborate on their answers. But you can watch the introductory videos recommended in the comments. We sometimes have a favorite but we love all of them because they're kind hearted, respectful, they're grateful to Army and they walk the talk.

    RM's role as leader is more like a Team Captain. These boys enjoy their fame and success but there's here above all else for the music, the fans, and each other. There's no internal competition unless there's food on the line. They have different roles that have become less narrow and defined over time and they all have their own niches that they explore separately (j-hope, RM, and Suga all have their own solo albums, Jungkook does film editing and directing, Tae paints...stuff like that) and they all have different musical styles. It's hard coming from the western world to grasp a group that works like that without the competition but some of them have lived and worked together for almost 12 years and all of them at least 10. They're brothers and they love each other and they always put the team first.

    The leader of a band mostly in kpop just means that it is the person that have more work and stuff in their back and shoulders, more responsability, if something bad happens with the band in terms of business and almost everything then the leader is the one that have to take responsibility and every weight in his back, thats why the leader needs to be strong mentally. About the band and everything related to it. It doesnt mean that it is the best person or the most talented. And it is most of the time the one that speaks first in interviews and presenting something, so it most be nerve wrecking to be like that all the time.

    I loved all 3 of your reaction videos. After seeing thousands of them since I found BTS in 2015, I had finally quit watching them last year because it was obvious to me that most of the new reactors were just doing it to get views and would hype every video without caring about the music, singing, dancing, lyrics or band member personalities.
    Not that everyone sees or notices the same things, but it quickly becomes obvious who is genuinely wanting to explore BTS and who just wants to make fans happy to make money.
    I liked how both of you are coming from a different POV and are interested in different aspects of BTS. I love how he said that it wasn’t his type of music, but was inspired by the amazing production aspects that ARMY has come to expect. Then, having her talk about the members as someone who has loved a boyband before and understanding the importance of a group’s personalities, strengths and bond was great too. I hope you can delve into more of BTS, as a producer, and a boyband fan. I think the two of you will get so much more out of learning about them than most reactors because between you, you can see them as more than just individual members and artists, but you can also explore the genius of their marketing and how all encompassing the BTS world is that Big Hit created. I have never seen any band or artist marketed like they are in my life, and I don’t know if it would work with any other band because of who they are individually and as a group.

But it is all good we all have our own journey and what we like. I also have to say, I really like army. They have been so supportive and helpful with comments, encouragement, and answers. I have never encountered anything like it before. At least not in this amount and not with this much enthusiasm. It is really amazing to me.

      This is not entirely correct. If you are born the same year, you are chinggu and can drop honorifics immediately (typically). You show respect if they are born the year before you, which is why Jin is "hyung" to Yoongi, even though they are only a few months apart (they are one year apart in Korean age). If someone is born in December and someone else in January, then yes, you have to show respect, because then their Korean age is a year apart. And also, yes, if you meet a stranger, you use honorifics until you find out their age/rank, and then you switch accordingly.

    In Korea, they count the entire pregnancy as one year of life/experience, so you are automatically 1yo the day you are born. Then, on January 01, EVERYONE turns a year older (for legal purposes), so there might be a 1 or 2 number gap between Korean age and international age. Taehyung/V was born December 30, 1995, but two days later on January 1, 1996, he was already considered two years old! Koreans become legal adults when they turn 20, which is when they can get a driver's license, drink alcohol, and men can start enlisting in the military.

    I'm just sitting here laughing as they try to figure out how the members fit into the typical boyband personality molds like "no, no, this is just how their actual personalities are".
    It took me awhile to be able to identify each of them with their hairstyles and colors changing so much. I ended up just being able to identify them one at a time, with Namjoon (RM) being the first one I could reliably identify because he was historically the one who spoke the most in English interviews.
    And yes, they do actually get along quite well. The k-pop system has groups live together first as trainees, and then for at least a few years after their debut. The BTS members *still* live together, although their dorm is much nicer than the one they started out in. They do sometimes fight, but they also have very healthy conflict resolution. Relationship-wise they interact more like brothers than friends, at least in part because they've been through so much together from their start as a hip-hop style group at a small, poor label to becoming a trailblazing global phenomenon.

    • @Honey-je4pr
      @Honey-je4pr 2 года назад +5

      But they're not wrong - kpop groups often have "assigned" personalities, like quiet guy, cool guy, bad boy, etc. Originally, Jin was told to be more aloof and cool, but during Fire era, he felt more comfortable and confident and there was a big switch into his real personality that we see today (he's talked about it a lot).

    • @shiroikami2690
      @shiroikami2690 2 года назад +1

      @@Honey-je4pr Not sure what that has to do with trying to figure out which boyband stereotype each member fits in a *current* interview. Yes, some k-pop groups may still have those "assigned" personalities, but BTS has chosen over the years to give us... if not all of who they are, a much more complex and genuine look at themselves.
      So yes, they *are* wrong in this context. Which I found amusing because I understand the where they're coming from (having grown up in the 90s with the Backstreet Boys and N*SYNC), while also knowing (as an ARMY) that those boxes don't fit the BTS members and that the attempts to figure them out were futile.

      @Honey 0613 exactly, it was the same with Jimin, they had him act a certain way in the early music videos and performances and show off his body and all that but we end up finding out that wasn’t exactly “him.” It’s dope that they have the freedom to show their true personalities because a lot of other groups don’t have that. One of the reasons I fell in love with them and their music; when they started opening up and being real.

    This was fun to watch! Since you guys seem to have an interest in seeing more of their story & music & personalities, I would highly highly recommend reacting to the Rise of Bangtan series that's available here on YT - it's some of the most comprehensive content out there on BTS and it's made by a fan who is a professional editor so it might be interesting for you from that perspective as well. Also just editing to add: If possible, try not to go into it assuming you know what their "sound" is - they are one of the most genre-blind and musically diverse groups out there, but they also have a varied sound as soloists vs as the group, and they just have SO much music that there's honestly something there that nearly everyone will love. You'll really enjoy this process so much more if you keep an open mind! And have fun with it!

    RUN BTS series is one of my most favourite things about BTS. That's where you see their personalities. BTS was frozen out of a lot of variety shows in Korea. They were from a small company which couldn't compete with The Big 3 when it came to marketing, publicity and media attention. BTS had to create opportunities for themselves. For the majority of their 10 + years together the majority of that time is spent living together. RM (Kim Namjoon) is the leader and my bias. He's like an unofficial manager and keeps things calm and fluid between members and between BTS and the company. He's like the liason officer. It's a whole lot of responsibility and headaches without any extra benefits. In K-pop every band has a leader.

    In the Koren music indudtry, it's tradition for most groups to have designated roles and at least "a leader". This is probably because it's a culture that is more community driven and in which respect and order are valued. Usually, the leader tends to be the older member (because in Korean society, age is a big deal), that's not the case in BTS. BTS leader (RM/Kim Namjoon) is actually in the middle in terms of age, but, he became the leader because he was the first member (the group was built around him) and partially because he's their main lyricist and someone who helps a lot with the conceptualisation of their songs. (BTS rappers write most of their lyrics.)
    The "leader role" doesn't mean that someone is the main vocalist or the most important member (every member is equaly important and, arguably, their biggest strength is how good their teamwork is). Anyways, the leader is actually a role that entails a lot of responsibility/duties. The leader's main responsibilities are:
    1) to represent the interest of the group (communicate their concerns/complains/ideas to the management);
    2) to communicate to their management what are the direction BTS members want to take, what is going to be the concept of their new album/project, what are the ideas for the songs topics. (These things are decided by BTS members, together, but, RM and Bang PDnim have always had a big role when it comes to the abstract ideas/conceptualisation, during the creative process. They're both very "philosophical" people.)
    *Bang PD aka Hitman Bang aka Bang Si Hyuk is a music producer who founded Big Hit Entertainment's (ex-CEO, current Big Hit Music chairman). He's a creative. He's the person who put BTS together. (PDdogg is their teacher pre-debut, and main in house producer... Slow Rabbit is another producer who worked with them since debut.)
    3) to mediate bewteen the the company and the members, when it comes to discusions/disagreements/negociation;
    4) to supervise/make sure everyone is fullfiling their respective role/responsibilities. That everyone goes to practice, is informed, goes to reunions, sits down to discuss things, etc.
    5) to be a spokesperson, for example, preparing speeches for award shows and the ending speech in concerts (although all members hace the chance to speak, if they want).
    Namjoon also helps to keep everyone motivated and focused on a common goal (although this may be more of a natural thing than something he does consciously, since he's an inspirational character and tends to influence others just by leading by example. People see how passionate he is about music, how hard he works, and they think "I have to do my part, too".)
    In summary, the leader is like a mediator and someone who acts like a representative. It's like a president of the class + a sports team's leader.
    Having said all this, all BTS members have leadership abilities and fullfil different roles. Most notably in this subject, J Hope helps a lot with leading the performance side (leads dance practice, gives feedback when they are reviewing their performance, helps members learn choreography. This happens more behind the scenes/not in camera.)

    hi guys, loved your reaction and interest in our boys! just wanted to say that bts wasn't thought out in such a "marketing" way when they came out back in 2013, so things like having the age gap, the different personalities and stuff, that's not a strategy to appeal to more ppl lmao, it's just a coincidence, as you would have the same variety in a random group of 7 friends
    bts was actually created around 2010 to 2013 to be a hip-hop group, so less marketable in the kpop industry (which wasn't nearly as popular as it is today) to begin with
    the members were chosen mostly because of their talent or something they could add to the group, for example, the leader RM was a well known underground rapper in Korea when he joined their company bighit, same with the shy guy, suga
    just wanted to say this, that not everything is a marketing strategy to appeal to the masses lol, how they actually ended up doing that is a question loads of ppl try to answer, but I think the most important factor were the messages in their music, their personalities, and their relationships with each other and the fandom
    anyways, not gonna say too much so that I don't spoil your journey on discovering them, but just enjoy and have fun with it :)

    People tend to assume there is a list of "desirable traits/traits that are universaly attractive", but that's not true, in my experience. Different people are attracted to different personalities/features. And when it comes to beauty standards promoted by a certain society, those beauty standards change in time/place. PD: For example, even if we agree that "everyone likes people who are funny", it is also true that everyone has different types of humor. My brother likes sarcasm and dark humor. I often don't/I'm kinda sensitive. So, who do we find "funny" varies. Even who do we find "smarter" varies, since there's different type of intelligence and we are all interested in different subjects.

    Yes in Korean you are considered 1 when you are born. Also in Korea, you "age" a year every New Year rather than on your birthday. Regardless of whether your birthday has passed or not, in Korea you add a year to your age every January 1ˢᵗ. So if u want to know your Korean age just add two years to your Western-system age. For example if a baby is born on December 31, they are 1 but than next day(January 1st) they will be 2.

    There is a documentary series called 'The Rise of Bangtan'. It does not have any voice over, everything is first person speaking cut together. The first few episodes not only shows how BTS formed but gives a brief history of Kpop, and explains how it works - recruiting trainees, how they are trained, the importance of music shows for giving groups exposure, etc. It puts BTS in context. f you want to know more than that - there are more episodes following their development and experiences. You see behind the scenes, clips of performances, recorded diary logs, and so much more.

    It's really fun watching people new to BTS reacting to BTS. Some of their comments, I'm like, "I thought that too!" I hope they dive deeper into the BTS-verse - it would be interesting to see how some viewpoints change and how some stay the same. Love this! Please continue!

    I think one of the extra special things about BTS is that the entry-point can come from different ways (music, an interview, a variety show they guest in, a performance, a documentary, or even a video game, or a webtoon…like there are SO MANY entry points). I also think that it’s okay to be a fan of the personalities and chemistry and fun without needing to love/adore the music. It may naturally rise as part of curiosity but don’t feel pressured at all. I am happy and grateful to watch along with you, because of your genuineness and earnestness.

    I kind of want you to watch their latest Bangtan Bomb Episode, the behind the scenes of the AmericanMusicAwardss..perhaps it's jumping into the deep end, but I remember first becoming an army this way years ago..it really shows their personalities, talent, dedication and humanity -- what make schemes special, in my opinion.

      Hahaha! It's funny because I am also learning so much from the comments. Plus, I really enjoy the army's vibe too. So supportive and really love their boys.

    In Korea, every group has a leader, who isn’t only responsible for keeping the group together and running smoothly, but is also the spokesperson and leads any negotiations with the company.
    In the case of BTS it’s RM and all the boys recognize him as the best leader; on stage they don't overshadow each other, everyone has their moment or song to shine.
    They love each other, they are like brothers, although they debuted in 2013 they have been together since 2011 (some since 2010).
    To learn more about the members, I recommend An introduction to the seven members of BTS 2021 updated by Ida S. There you will know who writes, composes and produces, who plays instruments, who are expert dancers from before entering the company and their voices.
    Then they could watch This is BTS. Introduction to BTS 2019 by XCeleste so that they know their history as a group

    Welcome to BTS. They are more that just a KPOP group. They are a force for good and social change. Their music often address difficult topics and difficult times. Try watching their variety show, Run BTS. Or perhaps one of their vacation series, Bon Voyage or In the Soop. Or maybe watch them speak and perform at the UN. I highly recommend their award show speeches and performances. The list is almost endless. Enjoy!
