O'Connor became the youngest ever Super Rugby debutant when he came off the bench for the Western Force against the Queensland Reds in Week 10 of the 2008 Super 14 competition. He completed the season's final three matches running on at inside centre.
In 2008, during his Australian debut, O'Connor scored three tries and helped Australia beat Italy 31--8. In October 2009 O'Connor "took home the Emirates Western Force 2009 'Rookie of the Year' award and was also named the Wallabies 'Rookie of the Year' at the 2009 John Eales Medal dinner.
In 2010 O'Connor played "11 of the 13 Western Force games and recorded 104 points. He also played 13 of Australia's 15 Tests, and was the 2010 Tri Nations Series' top try scorer together with Mils Muliaina.[citation needed]
At the end of the 2011 Super Rugby season O'Connor signed a two year contract with the Melbourne Rebels. His Rebel teammates will include Waratahs fullback Kurtley Beale, Western Force centre Mitch Inman and 2011 Rebels Danny Cipriani Nick Phipps, and Richard Kingi.

I still remember James O’Connor back in Primary school when the family used to live in New Zealand in Te Atatu, he was always the fastest, and loved his rugby 😍❤️ and still is❤️ was shocked to even see him playing ! Number 1 fan for sure ❤️

+Mark Graham Yeah, he's so AVERAGE he's playing for Toulon - the strongest team in Europe - alongside the likes of Giteau and Habana and Drew Mitchell and a whole host of other stars. I should be so average, YOU should be so average! Off the field - he's a twit. But on the field he's still a damn fine player!

Possibly the most talent all round player I’ve ever seen! He can do it all - can literally play anywhere in the back line and prob do a decent job in the back row as well! Certainly flanking! Why did he ‘miss a few years’ or not reach his full potential or whatever?

im an all black fan, but i reckon oconnor to do really well and utilize his potential, he should be playing inside center as a second playmaker for the wallabies, i reckon thats where he will do alot of damage!
this guy is the best of the best he plays for Melbourne Rebels now. (witch i support)
in Wallabies he plays right wing, and sometimes fullback. But in that occassion Quade Cooper was injured and he played flyhalf. In super15 he normally plays 10 or 12

Quade Cooper is the best attacking flyhalf in australian rugby, outside him we need solid runners like mcabe and cummins at 12 and 13. If that means that utility backs like O'connor and Ashley-Cooper are pushed out to the back 3 then so be it. Also beale is a shit flyhalf and did not deserve a spot in the wallabies starting xv on the tour
