    1. The blades are fixed, the only way to slow the turbine down in a high wind situation is with the electronic braking system. Even the manual brake simply shorts out the output of the generator.
    2. Properly installed solar systems have zero moving parts (except for cooling fans in the inverters/chargers. A wind turbine has moving parts by definition, therefor it will require more maintenance than a solar system. All you usually need to do with solar is keep the panels clean.
    3. 680Kg/1,499lb (turbine alone, not including the mount) is rather heavy for a small footprint on any roof/building.
    Those are the major negatives in your advertisement for this product.
    Positives
    1. Will work day or night in winds between 10 Kph (6.7mph) and 54Kph (33mph). Survival speed is 216Kph/134mph (for the turbine, not the mast).
    2. It is a more energy dense solution than an equivalent sized area of solar panels. Roughly 4mx4m
    3. Quieter than most other wind turbines.
    I'd use this in conjunction with a solar array and battery bank for either a hybrid or off-grid system.

    This design has been around since the 1970's: A Darrieus turbine with Savonius turbines at the center for easy startup. Seemed clever way back then, but it never caught on. Real wind people know better than to use this design, which is why, after 50 years, you never see them. Strange how this video shows so many various vertical-axis and horizontal-axis (propeller-type) wind turbines, and both small and large versions of the DS3000 Hi-VAWT turbine, stating numbers from the larger one, when showing the smaller one. A word to the wise: Vertical-Axis wind turbines make less power than regular wind turbines, and quickly fail. Find a single happy owner of a vertical-axis wind turbine, assuming you can find a single vertical-axis wind turbine still operating, anywhere in the world! There are strong reasons why the prevailing propeller-style design predominates. It uses less material, to make more power, and is more efficient, and more reliable. And NO, these vertical-axis turbines will NOT outperform solar panels, until dark at least. Assuming the vertical-axis turbine lasts even a whole day, which it probably won't. The minute you have enough wind to make decent power, it will destroy the vertical-axis turbine. Which is why you will NEVER see one in a windfarm! :)

    Yeah right, What you got there is a nice energy device for LED light-bulbs,
    My whole-house water boiler needs a minimum 4kw of power per hour to keep my house at +20*C inside, at an outside temp of~ -8*C. That maths out to ~100kwh per 24hr day...... just to maintain a temp differential of 28*C. On a typical windy January day at -30*C outside, that will be at least double, so say 200 kw for 24 hours. That's 6000kwh for the month of January.
    How many of those tiny generators will I need?
    Well, you say this generator will output about 2460 kw per stinking year, so (2460/12)= 205 per month and 6000/205= about 30, therefore;
    Answer; I will need about 30 of them all working at full capacity. Did I get the math right. I mean I'm no Einstein, maybe I'm wrong.
    To continue;
    30 times $6000= $180,000 just to purchase them! They're not even in my yard yet, nor installed.
    I can heat my house all winter on $3000 worth of hauled-in cordwood, ALL WINTER. That's an average of say $600per month; and the inside temp during the day, is gonna average probably closer to 24*C.
    Lemmee see; $180,000/$3000 = oh about 60 years to break even... before shipping, before installation, before repairs, maintenance, and/or periodic replacement, and assuming the things will handle running WFO.
    What you got there is a real nice energy device for LED bulbs .
    Try to imagine what my house, my garage, and my 3/8acre yard would look like with 30 of those whirlygigs gyrating their little hearts out.
    Now if you were to sell me all 30 of those for the one-time cost of $6000 delivered, installed, and tested; well then, I could overlook how they might appear to my neighbors, and try to ignore the friggen racket, because I can imagine with all 30 of them revved out in January, that my neighbors are NOT gonna be very happy.
    But yeah, I can see that, what ya got there is a nice energy device for LED bulbs.

      I know a good deal of physics, but I’m missing the “scam” part of this. Vertical turbines do turn in the wind, so that can’t be it. Are you saying that their figures on production are wrong? That can’t be it because that’s not a physics issue. What are you saying is scam about this?

    • @rogerphelps9939
      @rogerphelps9939 Месяц назад

      @@gaylanbishop1641 Very simple. The swept area is very small. For a vertical axis wind turbine it is only proportional to the diameter of the thing whereas with a proper horizontal axis wind turbine it is proportional to the square. Horizontal axis wind turbines require far less "stuff" than vertical axis wind turbines for the same output. Domestic wind turbines are generally not very big. Wind speed. Places where people live tend not to be that windy. Since output is proportional to the cube of the wind speed, siting is crucial. Wind speed increases with height above the ground and it is straightforward to get a HAWT turbine high up using a tall pylon; not so easy with a vertical axis wind turbine. That is why people who buy domestic wind turbines are almost always disappointed. It is no accident that all successful commercial wind turbines are large horizontal axis devices located in windy places. That is why wind turbines intended for the average home are a waste of money.

      @gaylanbishop1641 Месяц назад

      @@rogerphelps9939 Good information, but I don’t think a lack of physics knowledge is the problem here. That’s some VERY specialized info and not knowing that isn’t fairly representative of ignorance of physics. It seems that the real issue, then lies with misrepresentation of the thing’s capacity. Using their numbers, which are independent of the physics used to produce the output, they predict one of these home devices outperforming a similar investment in solar. So I believe your point is that the numbers they present as reasonable to expect are false.

    *NONSENSE! All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!*
    Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. With 100% more wind, the electricity yield increases by 800%. Wind close to ground is also extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life. Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid & live close to the sea, you should have a large wind turbine for the winter on a high mast.
    *With solar modules, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

    Can they have possibly filled this video with even more disinformation and completely incorrect facts and maths than is already here? Lower energy generation per dollar but does run in conditions where solar generation would suffer. Also, solar panels are normally warranted for 25 years, not 10 as quoted here. These subtle differences matter. The ANNUAL production of this VAWT is roughly 2x the MONTHLY electricity needs of the average home in the US. Still quite far away from viable at the exorbitant cost of just one of these turbines. It would take 15 years to pay back your initial investment.
