Maidened my 1400mm Pitts yesterday at our field in similar winds and had no problems. Used the v2 reflex primarily as handling was better with it on. Definitely nose heavy with 5200mAh packs but really can''t move them any more aft. Had 4 great flights with 7-8 min flight times (landed with an avg of 40% left in the packs). I think back to years ago when I built a 1/3 scale Pilot Christen Eagle (which is the same size as the FMS Pitts) and powered by a ST3000 glow engine. Took months to build and cover. Some owners in the RCgroup forum have reported that the landing gear for this plane is not particularly robust. Just wondering what are your thoughts on this? Also, I was curious if adding a gyro would make this bird more fun and easier to fly. Is there a reason why you don't ever use/ add a gyro to any of the rc planes you review?
The gear is pretty tough. It has a tough metal wire strut to support everything. A gyro or fight stabilizer will make anything easier to fly & ther eis nothing wrong with using them. I choose not to use them just because most airplanes do not need them. I like to fly without them so I can feel what the plane is dong.
