Thanks for the lovely review, it helped me to finalize my choice in curriculum for my 5 year-old son with ASD. I have received it already and am in love with it's simplicity and method.
Thank you so much! For all you do for your own family and being so kind as to share your knowledge with other families as well. It is much appreciated!
I'm starting school with my almost 8 year old and I wanted a math curriculum that was simple, no fuss and was busywork free. I believe I've found it! Thank you so much Jane! I've watched so many videos of yours in the past and I follow you on Instagram. I should have come here first instead of stressing myself out comparing every curriculum under the sun. :)
We are starting SCM Math next week. My Grandson is very similar to your Son. Very knowledgeable! He loves CLE readers but not the workbooks. I've tried CLE Math, MFLE and ACE. He doesn't seem excited about any of it. I hope he likes this. I hope you continue to do updates on how it's going.
Oh my gosh I love this so much!!! Thank you for sharing this review because I've been wondering about he CM math books! My kids basically pretend to live the life of the boxcar children and Laura and Mary Ingalls so this seems like a perfect fit :() I've tried one math curriculum that comes with SO MUCH STUFF and it was really good but we live in a small space so a giant tote of math stuff was just too much and we tried the Math Lessons for a Living Education but I found it fairly similar to what you already said. I totally love the simplicity of this this!
Thank you so much for this review, it was really clear and helpful! If you’re able, it’d be great to see an update review on how it went with SCM Arithmetic Volume 1. Would love to hear!
Thank you for the post! We are a similar tribe... teaching Charlotte Mason method for the past few years. We have four children ages 15yo/G, 6yo/B, 2yo/B, and 5 mo/B. I was checking out the math for our 6 year old and your post was amazing to compare a "living math" workbook (you deemed a busy workbook) to that of the Simply Charlotte Elementary Arithmetic. YAY! Thanks again!
Thank you for being the most relatable homeschooling mom on RUclips that I've found! This review was super helpful for me and I'm pretty sure if we met in real life we'd be friends. Thanks for being you!
Thank you for this superb review. I’ve never seen the inside of a Charlotte Mason math curriculum. Very cool! I really enjoy your sense of humor. You’re hilarious!
This looks similar to Rays arithmatic which was the maths used at the same time era as mcguffey reader and it can be found in books on online still aswell. I love the look of this because it is simple, no fluff or busywork but can easily be made hands on/engaging :D
OMG I love you, can we be friends?! You're so funny and honest! Seriously though, thank you for the review, I was about to order MLFALE for the 2018-2019 school year but I am definitely going to check out the Simply Charlotte Mason Arithmetic books. Also, I have to tell you that I'm so glad I found your blog. I always felt like I had to do ALL THE THINGS for homeschool so it was encouraging to see you and other moms doing minimalist homeschool. Thanks again!
I wish 2 had come out. My son gobbled up the samples of one but there are only three chapters before he is done with 1 if I were to get it. I have the same problem with TGTB math. What appears to be a fit, itsnt finished with publishing. 😑
I had no idea this came out already, so I went ahead with CLE for my oldest 4 kiddos because trying to plan my own lessons/remember where each kiddo was at with the original guide from this same author was very difficult in our big family!
This Roth Tribe CLE is a strong math that we started our homeschool journey with (or near the beginning) I loved its affordability! I just had a hard time juggling the kids and then they weren’t understanding how I was teaching lol. As they got older I just needed them doing this independently (which my older girls are). I wish this had existed back when we started!!!
SaltyTribeCo I get it completely! I have 8 children under 10 years. We don’t start academics until 6, but I now have 4 at or above that are! Hah! It’s a juggle! Random question based off the organization bins... would you use McGuffey readers with The Good and the Beautiful LA level K? Or do the readers stand alone?
So we use McGuffey as a stand alone for learning to read, but use G&B readers to further the enjoyment and goodness of reading. You could definitely do McGuffey with Level K from G&B but I think G&B is MORE than enough all on it's own.
This was so helpful! Thank you for the review. I was set on math for living education, but the more reviews I’ve seen the more I’m hesitant. I’m wondering if it would be good for kinder year, which I’ll loosely be doing lessons, and use SCM math for 1st.
This looks awesome. Wish they had one for kindergarten. I know that sounds simple, but a book would be so helpful to keep it hands on and not worksheet based
We are doing masterbooks for kindergarten right now it is ok but just not very exciting so we are switching to the simply charlotte math for my first grader . We will do teaching text books for my 6th graders . I'm so excited to try the simply charlotte books this year but at least first semester we will do masterbooks phonics since my little one struggles with phonics
I’ve been doing this with my 1st grader. We just started Ten yesterday. She had ABeka with our distance school and it wasn’t working. She wanted to try it again and we’re back to Simple Math and she’s doing well :-)
I keep coming back to this video...the curriculum is so appealing have you experience with the good and the beautiful level k math? If so how does it compare? I love your channel!
I have and although I like it ok it is a lot of busy work I feel. Plus I feel like they put to many different concepts into each lessons so it takes awhile to get through each lesson. My last child can't sit still to save his life so 15 minute no fluff lessons are key, LOL
@SaltyTribeCo Thank you for this review! It was very helpful being able to see inside the book. You sound like an excellent resource because you used both SCM and Math-U-See, which are the 2 math curricula I am deciding between. How has SCM lessons gone for you? You said you really like MUS, why did you stop and make the switch? I'm really struggling with the decision between these two programs. I have 5 young sons so far and school and math just cannot take up my life.
After we moved to florida we lost it! Insert sad face! It was our favorite math! I liked MUS but after awhile my kids loathed it. Mostly now I teach math to them and we use Khan Academy [because it's free]. I teach in a waldorf style of math using teaching resources. I liked that SCM was open and go lesson wise, just grab a few manipulatives.
@@SaltyTribeCo Ooh, where in Florida are you?! (I moved from Arizona to the Jacksonville area about 2.5 years ago) Did you stop using SCM because the 3rd book was not out yet? Would you switch back when the 3rd level comes out? ( I was told it is at the printers so I don't imagine it will be too much longer before it is available) We are coming from Abeka academy, switching to a Charlotte Mason approach, so it is going to be a major transition for us, but especially me, as I am used to being very hands off when it comes to their education, since the DVDs do all the work. So you like MUS but your kids did not? Was it too repetitive for them? This really is an agonizing decision to make. The SCM looks so simple, but it also seems like it goes a bit slow? Then again, I feel like my boys would play with those blocks or just lose them; however, I like that it can be done more independently.
Thank you so much for showing the inside and your review! We are using Singapore Math 1a/b right now and I was pretty satisfied with it, but as I'm trying to embrace more of CM, I was considering this curriculum. So do I need a new book for each of the elementary years? Book One for "Grade One", etc? Would you recommend starting with Book Two if we're finishing up Singapore Math level 1?
It’s really up to you, the way it teaches is more abstract versus just straightforward math so check out samples of both and then choose. If your child is more math minded or did well, I’m sure you could start with book 2.
Aw i always feel creepy saying things like this, too, so I get it. It's so nice to find a person's channel to who you can relate and has a great personality😊
Jane, what was the source you used for finding out the different dislexia's your daughter has? I remember as a child reading sentences and the first part getting confused with the last part(instead of letters being mirrored). So, I stayed confused but if I read the words outloud I would hear it and this would help me retain it. So, I do believe my son has same form if that is what I think it is. Thanks. You make everything beautiful with your photography
Hey! I've used countless sources over several years and I didn't bookmark many. Oops. Thank you for sharing! I have a 7 year old grandson. We're currently doing Singapore but I'm underwhelmed. At 7 will Everett finish Level 1 this year? How many lessons does it progress through? Wondering if I switched for next year to Level 2 if he will be properly placed. I dont want to inadvertantly skip a foundational lesson. He's currently what would be a 1st grader. Thanks for your help!!
He will finish it next school year. We had to take a lot of time off of school when we evacuated and then lost our home in Hurricane Florence. I am so excited that the next book is already out. I will definitely be getting it later!
@@SaltyTribeCo Sorry to hear if your trials!! Yikes! So if I finish Singapore this year with my 7 year old, will it be appropriate to begin the #2 book or will do you think I should get Book 1 now and switch midstream?
Glad I was stating accurate information. I read it in the middle of the night when I was nursing my two-month-old. I’ve honestly been going back-and-forth on if I should get this or not. I also have the good and the beautiful math. I like that I can use this with multiple kids.
Thank you! MUS has worked well for my first kiddo who is 9, but my second (5 year old) is a totally different personality. I've been thinking seriously about using Richele's math for her. I'm kind of scared, but given your enthusiasm I'm going to give it a try. :-)
This is the Math for me. I hate busy work, and I get over stimulated with too many pictures and colors. Short lessons 👌 😌.
Thanks for the lovely review, it helped me to finalize my choice in curriculum for my 5 year-old son with ASD. I have received it already and am in love with it's simplicity and method.

at what age would this book be good to start?
